Well some people did say sexist (which is incorrect here for the most part), but it was generally understood that most people disapproved of a shirt like that being worn at such a professional event. Again, I don't defend the people who were overly toxic towards him, just people who were calm and collected about it
These people obviously weren't in the majority if they brought a grown ass man that just landed a probe on a fucking comet, to tears.
Only one of them is misogynist, and only one of them actually addresses feminism. Try again.
Most of them imply that the concerns people brought up about the shirt were completely invalid, and they said it in a really condescending manner, as if their point didn't matter at all. I'm not saying they're misogynistic, just that it was an overreaction [editline]14th November 2014[/editline]
These people obviously weren't in the majority if they brought a grown ass man that just landed a probe on a fucking comet, to tears.
Or maybe the few crazies were just much more visible?
He was obviously sincere, especially with the tears. But it's when he was bringing it up that suggest that this might have triggered an episode from his past. that doesn't make any less sincere, just an explanation for is tears.
Alright, I'll agree with that. Sorry if I misconstrued your other post.
or maybe it's just a shitpost on a forum, you're giving them unneeded importance tbh
Fair enough, but the general feeling if the thread was intense hatred against the people who brought it up on Twitter. And also, moderators are supposed to prevent shitposting, not partake
I watched his apology and I don't really think he was crying because of what people said to him. This suggestion does him a disservice as well, as it implies his apology wasn't sincere. And to me, it sure sounded sincere. So kudos to him for that.
Commisar Zeke turned to the next one in the circle. The man instinctively flinched, and looked down at the floor while fiddling with his regulation overalls: grey, with the black stripe of the gendercriminal. Zeke smirked and rubbed his bristly neckbeard in anticipation. "What have you to confess today, comrade?" "I," he stammered out, "I wore a shirt with a naked woman on it, during the Break Hour. I didn't see anything wrong with it, on account of my male privilege. I am truly sorry .." Tears welled up in his eyes and rolled down his hollowed-out cheeks. The Commisar raised a magnanimous hand and proclaimed, "I congratulate you, comrade, for these admissions, which are so essential to the progress of each of us. In order to make our actions shine forth for ever, let us now try fearlessly to help our allies better detect zir own faults, those zie has not confessed because zie was unwilling to see them." Quite sincerely, he smiled, and moved onto the next member of his wayward flock.
kurgan, you're trying too hard
Not all addressing feminism directly, but they're really condescending and hostile towards the fairly reasonable observation that his shirt was unprofessional
Neither are tattoos but I don't see anyone complaining about his arms.
Neither are tattoos but I don't see anyone complaining about his arms.
Well I guess the shirt is an easier fix, and maybe people saw the shirt as a bigger priority. Can't really say
Breaking news: People who have never accomplished anything in their lives complain about the attire of one who has.
Joke's on you kurgan, I learned to hide my nefarious accent years ago. [editline]14th November 2014[/editline]
Neither are tattoos but I don't see anyone complaining about his arms.
Again, it's the content of the shirt and not the fact that he was wearing a t-shirt. His tattoos aren't a bunch of women posing sexually. They're mildly graphic but we've all known for a long time that people, for some reason, respond more quickly to sexuality than violence.
Facepunch was better when people could freely shitpost at each other without fearing bans tbh
And people can't now? Do you know how long it took for thisispain and Max to get banned?
It's almost as people's lives are so shitty and fucking stupid that they resort to shitting on successful people or people having fun online or with their hobbies There's even people on FP who obviously have such self-hatred towards humanity that they suggest we feel bad for ever fucking thing (cough max cough) Seriously all this is going to backlash and blow up in this whole SJW movement because over half of it are trolls anyways. You don't fit in real life so you spew trigger warnings and sexism over the victim playground which is the internet So if you really think being a shitlord over the internet is going to change people's minds: It's not. You're only going to attract shitty people like you who have the same revenge fetishes and try to bash people who are actually living their lives christ It's a shirt that isn't even sexist
And people can't now? Do you know how long it took for thisispain and Max to get banned?
I remember accidentally getting thisispain banned by envoking him to shitpost.
I remember accidentally getting thisispain banned by envoking him to shitpost.
you have a gift, do not squander it
are you really this irked enough to force unfunny and weird jokes into any thread that's related about sexism. what does this have to do with the thread at all
I'm not irked, I just speak from the heart. Didn't mean to rustle any jimmies.
STEM people overlook the small stuff since their curriculum and profession is rigorous, at least in comparison to being a tech writer.
This may be the first feminism related argument to take place in SH that didn't end with massive ban sprees and flat out shit flinging in a long time. Good job team
A lot of people think a lot of things.
Unfortunately a lot forget to think.
I went to NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (which also happened to be Mission Control for Rosetta) a few weeks ago at an open house weekend, and I'd say probably half of the staff there were women. There really isn't much to complain about other than 1 persons personal dressing choice.
Jesus crikey, people think nowadays everything is sexist just for the sake to have a voice ffs. [editline]14th November 2014[/editline] Is being bisexual being sexist right now?
Sweet! I'm sexist without doing a thing!
i wish he wouldve told her to fuck off and state the fact that he had contributed more to humanity than she could ever do
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/11231320/Rosetta-mission-scientist-Dr-Matt-Taylor-cries-during-apology-over-offensive-shirt.html Man, I'm so glad we achieved this wonderful goal of making a man, who helped land a fucking spacecraft on a fucking comet, cry. 10/10 Achievement for humanity
Fuck man, that just makes me want to give him a big ol' hug, and tell him there isn't bullshit like this on that Comet. Way to go humanity, ya dicks.
Fucking women

Who would have thought a woman would moan
*women complain about misogyny* *men make misogynistic comments in an attempt to pretend misogyny is not a thing* [editline]15th November 2014[/editline] I mean I dont think the shirt is straight up misogynistic, it's a bit objectifying and I don't think it's particularly acceptable, and from a fashion standpoint it's fucking terrible and gaudy, as well as innappropriate for the situation, but comments like that just prove the point lmao.
People've been asking where to buy the shirt: http://www.alohaland.com/pinup-girls-guys/new-gunner-girls
also the "it's just a shirt" argument is 100% a stupid fallacy
I find it all the more incredible that the shirt was designed by a woman. It's like people calling bayonetta a sexist portrayal of women regardless of the fact a woman designed the entire god damn character.
If I went into work with that shirt I might get walked off the premise tbh. Its not that big of a deal though that it needs to be in the news, this social justice warrior B.S is getting tiresome.
I find it all the more incredible that the shirt was designed by a woman. It's like people calling bayonetta a sexist portrayal of women regardless of the fact a woman designed the entire god damn character.
the creator being a woman makes literally no difference lol. Ive not played Bayonetta so I cant comment on the potential sexism or anything, I've heard it's an interesting and very polarising situation and read a little bit on both sides and there's valid points both ways. But the fact that Bayonetta was designed by a woman doesn't matter, women can still cater to the toxic male gaze and objectify women too.
