this is basically how every episode of burn notice worked.
hell, to do 1-up on that, just walk into any retailer chain claiming to work for driveline or one of the other restocking vendors, that basically gives you a free pass to go anywhere in the store, including the backroom
That show is like crack with the amount of social engineering techniques in it.
I just got hired on at a grocery store, and they said for a good few weeks, a man would stop by one of the stores early in the morning (before management got in for the day) dressed as a Red Bull partner (the store has certain goods stocked by the companies that supply them), and would load up ENTIRE trollies with Red Bull, claim they were damaged goods, and just walk out.
Dude stole thousands of dollars of Red Bull before they caught him.

Lol
I just imagine this guy shoving tons of red bull in a beat up Toyota Camry and nobody notices anything wrong
As stupid as that mission is, there is a surprising amount of truth in how easy it is to pull off stupid shit similar to that. Especially if you just act like you know what you are doing, I've gone to some of our sites in plain clothes just asked if I could go into the server room since I am from IT and no one even let the head person know on site that someone wanted access to the server room and security system.
Shit is ridiculous, people just never second guess IT it seems.
My co-workers were doing some stuff at an airports air traffic control tower and just walked in wearing their civilian clothes and did stuff on their computers for like 2 hours before some lady went "HEY! Who are these guys?" and then they provided all necessary information. They got all the way up there just carrying PCs and waving at people the let them in. :v:
bet he used hitman's instinct mode to hide from those workers
Exactly. If you walk like you know where you're going, what you're doing, and like you're just another employee, especially in a large store or company, most people won't even look once at you.
This is truly amazing.
What's more, in reality, most cons are based on...you guessed it, confidence! I've seen people do some crazy shit by just pretending to be friendly/in need or just acting like they were part of the same company.
As a matter of fact, certain companies make a TON of dosh by doing pen tests. Physical PEN TESTS. This store would have utterly failed. Consider someone fired...
EDIT: Also, if most people don't go over training or aren't security guards paying attention, this happens very easily. Your mind is not focused on who works for the company but what the customer wants and if you're doing a fine job. You aren't thinking who's in reality working for apple. And what's more, what if he did work for apple and I just made a mess for nothing? This last question also hinders action against thi
There's a reason that a high-visibility vest and a clipboard are the camoflague of today. If you walk with purpose and look like you're meant to be there people won't really question you.
More often than not people see the uniform and not the person.
Must admit when I was younger (I was a little shit) 'confidence' was how I pulled off anything related to a five finger discount.
These days I have shitty anxiety to the point where I struggle to confidently purchase my groceries in shops, Buuut i'm a weird bastard.
As someone who works at a dollar general, I am suprised to say that we are the total fucking opposite of every other poster here so far.
DG gives such a huge shit about theft. I've actually had to chase people through the store before, i've even seen people get arrested. Shit still gets stolen, but every time we find something it's documented and the DM checks the cameras on his occasional (but often) visits.) Hell, I'd -never- try to steal anything from where I work because I know for a fact i'd get caught, fired, and then harassed.
tl;dr DG is insane about shrink.
I used to do alarm inspections for Walmart. It varied a lot. In some stores you would get stopped by every employee if you were in the back without visible ID. Other stores even the managers wouldn't question a person they've never met asking to be let in to the cash office.
