For me the game that made me (at least on the FPS side) was Outlaws. Obviously I played Half Life and loved it, but Outlaws was pretty much my first memorable FPS. Part of the reason is probably the soundtrack. I big on immersion and since I don't actually listen to music in my daily life it has an even greater effect that I think it would otherwise have.

I can't find my Doom or Wolfenstein CD either :smithicide:[/QUOTE]
Buy 'em on Steam.
Also, for those that want to get Quake because of this article; DO IT. Single player is great, and there are several advanced bots out there that let you play multiplayer without having to go online and get your ass wiped by some Finnish guy that's been playing the game for 12 years in a row.
Also, when you're completed the game for the first time, go back and use things like rocket jumps to skip parts of a map. It feels like a whole new game at times when you're able to skip huge portions of a map with ease.
