Fallout 4 coming November 10th, 2015 : Jetpack-equipped power armor - Mandatory

It would be a crying shame if they removed the skill system. In its core, all the major titles in the series had a pretty consistent rpg mechanic that I personally got quite used to. The way damage, critical chances and weapon skills are calculated is something I pretty firmly associate as a core component of Fallout titles and I found the blend of real-time action and RPG mechanics in F3 and New Vegas pretty interesting, seeing as a round-based sequel is pretty much out of the question.
This might be the first Fallout I bother modding, I want a UI that isn't shit and burn those hit markers.
I hope they have huge amounts of customization for the vault 111 suit
I'd actually really love to wear that as a main travel suit
Fuck retailer-specific exclusive DLC.
There is still levelling up and there are perk trees.
They're going to Skyrim way.from the looks of it.
The basic system from Skyrim is good, just a bit prone to cheating/grinding and some of the perk trees are shit.
2nd time round and with a few lessons from the mods that overhauled Skyrim skill trees then this could work very well. Never really liked just picking skills to advance without doing anything in the game world that would explain why you were suddenly better at different things.

gamestop (for example) constantly boasts about how they have preorder benefits specific to them and yet every single time it's something that's in the game that everyone has
don't trust that

SkyUI equivalent.

not gonna lie this minimalist shit is getting kinda stale, like have at least some style
it looks like a placeholder to me (though it's definitely not)
Oh wow a crosshair!!! That totally quells my fears of mostly bullet sponge enemies with AI that includes running at you constantly as you shoot at them and they don't react, no squad or group tactics and no cover tactics. I forgot that the crosshair and accuracy was the only thing about FO3's combat that was lackluster!
And I'm sure mole rats are great for squad AI huh
man I sure expect them to duck behind cover when I start firing!!!
also, less about the crosshair, more that it's not a static piece of shit and actually shows weapon accuracy now
is there anything disproving the no skills idea, because i could see that being very likely as well

I swore I saw skill requirements in some of the crafting screens.

Rank 1 science. It is for a laser pistol, but I wonder if it's gonna be simplified and no longer on a scale of 1-100, and be more Deus Ex like where you get a bunch of points and spend them on skills to upgrade up to four or so ranks.
its just rumors right now, there are a few things that lead people to believe they axed or at least changed how the skill system works, an example being that Intelligence doesn't affect how many skill points you receive, but rather how much XP you receive.
But like the guy above said the Bobbleheads are back, in the pic he posted there's a Barter bobblehead, and Barter was a skill so who really knows.
it might just be a secret bonus perk type thing
i for one am excited for a rework as long as it doesn't suck
EDIT: automerge too hard ):
I always found sneaking to be subpar compared to the ES games, but that may have to do with guns as well. At least NV added in suppressors.
A little-known secret about Fallout 3 and NV is that if you're sneaking and fire a loud gun, as long as the first shot kills the target no other enemies will hear your gunfire. They may become suspicious upon seeing the corpse, though.

Looks like you got even.

what do you mean? the hud?
minimalist huds are far better than the crap we sometimes see in games
I just need to see my health I don't need an entire menu on screen constantly

Like honestly, go play Blacklight: Tango Down and tell me minimalist isn't better.
Like honestly, go play Blacklight: Tango Down and tell me minimalist isn't better.
Something about the new HUD just irks me, and I can't quite place it. Maybe I'm used to the HUD from the previous games, or maybe I'm still getting major bullshot vibes from the trailer, but the HUD just doesn't look right to me.
crits are no longer a chance? you have to fill a bar so you're guaranteed a crit every so often apparently
special does weird things now, this will be difficult getting used to
you can sprint now, there's a greater focus on vats (being that perception now solely affects vats accuracy), speak checks are by chance again instead of a guarantee ala new vegas, so on
it looks like they took pages from Skyrim, Bioshock (the combat is reminiscent), Mass Effect and made it much more action-y and story driven and that doesn't excite me very much
i hope rolling a new character provides an actual new and interesting experience, i feel like they're going the Skyrim route in that "you can do everything!!!" and that sucks to be frank

another good example

as opposed to

and
[t]http://darkstation.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Serious-Sam-3-2.jpg[/t]
you can resize it in ss3 as well
I shouldn't have to stumble my eyes around the hud to figure shit out, I should be able to just see what I have at a glance or even through my peripheral vision
I just hope I can get a mod for an easy near hudless playthrough
would be nice if ammo was displayed on my gun
like the razer hydra mod for hl2

or halo

The font bugs me a little where it's really thin but other than that I'm perfectly okay with it.
On the topic of menus when you're rummaging through ammo boxes and bins or searching bodies for loot, I hope they go the BioShock route and just have a simple display of the 3-4 things inside it, rather than forcing a big menu showing everything you're carrying on one half of the screen.
Yes I would really like to put my power armor, anti-material rifle and 10K bottle caps inside this garbage dumpster I'll likely never see again
paying somebody to invent a time machine.

They said its companion app will hook into the game pipboy and the pipboy in game will also be critical, so I'd imagine they've shifted some of the HUD heavy lifting onto those two resources, maybe now you have to use the pipboy to see your health

Looks like they took a lot of pages from FO3 Wanderers Edition and Project Nevada. As well as Real Time Settler.
I think the hud is a "place holder" for now, it will be polished and made "fallout-y"

it's hardly any more functional than the old ui, it is literally just green text, boxes, and lines without any other detail whatsoever
Like honestly, go play Blacklight: Tango Down and tell me minimalist isn't better.
yes, but you can see how that has STYLE to it; it's minimalist while retaining a certain aesthetic
this UI is a mashup of capital letters and lowercase letters that lazily mimics skyim's and it's just downright ugly (imo)
-good looking uis-
just how it looks is what i'm saying, those are pretty while maintaining functionality
the functionality on fallout 4's is (kinda) there, but it looks like someone spent 5 minutes on it
when i look at the crysis one, i think sleek, when i look at fallout 4s, i think wannabe web dev

who cares if it looks like someone took 5 minutes on it
the important thing about a hud is being as easy to read as possible and be as little an eyesore as possible
though, it could use a bit of 'tear', or even just bars, like the old hud, so it's easier to count %
maybe even just small notches so it'd be easy to know for sure where 25%, half, and 75% is at

in the examples you posted it i have to say those are both easy to read and good looking; i think most would readily agree it doesn't look as compelling or attractive as what you've personally shown.

exactly, it's just over the top minimal for no particular reason is what i'm getting at
I'm a huge fan of customization, and it seems Fallout 4 has blown me away with this. Hopefully it turns out as good as it looks
Ugh I don't know what I want more, XCOM 2 or this
