Gabe Newell should win Most Influential Man in Video Games.
Right, the man may be CEO of a company with fantastic policies, but they haven't had any influence at all.
Why is the world fucking retarded?
Right, the man may be CEO of a company with fantastic policies, but they haven't had any influence at all.
STEAM has influenced DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION
Right, the man may be CEO of a company with fantastic policies, but they haven't had any influence at all.
Gabe himself helped develop Steam I believe, and maybe Half Life and saying Steam hasn't influenced gaming (specifically PC gaming) is like saying iTunes has had absolutely no effect on music distribution
I am the most influential person when it comes to breathing air. [editline]5th November 2011[/editline] Todd fucking Howard deserves some credit here.
I was talking to a friend about this the other day, and while I ultimately disagree with it, it makes sense in a small way. The iPhone is having a pretty huge impact on the casual gaming market, which is a good bit bigger than the more hardcore demographic. People have largely moved from consoles and handhelds for fuckaround games on the go, to smartphones such as iPhone and Android, and more recently tablets such as iPad. This has put Nintendo into a tight spot, with their targeted casual market not being as interested in consoles such as 3DS or Wii. and in fact I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo bows out of hardware for a while if WiiU fizzles as badly as the Wii has, given their huge losses over the past year, give or take. Maybe I'm giving Apple too much credit, but I would say that redefining casual gaming and crippling a historical video games giant, pretty influential. or at least in terms of contemporary influence, though Gabe Newell, Shigeru Miyamoto, et al. are more deserving of an arbitrary appellation such as this than Steve Jobs, I agree.
I think it's very hard to actually say who is the most influential person on video games. I mean there are so many people who have played their parts. But instead of picking any of these people, you pick... Steve Jobs? Damn, a random Mailbox Designer would be a better choice.
Tiny website survey of 1,000 people. Cause huge controversy, website now more popular.
Oh my god who cares, no one on this planet needs to give a fuck about this. [editline]5th November 2011[/editline]
Tiny website survey of 1,000 people.
and saying Steam hasn't influenced gaming (specifically PC gaming) is like saying iTunes has had absolutely no effect on music distribution
Since the creation of steam, gaming has become increasingly console-focused. It has allowed for indie titles to be distributed easier, yes, but that has had no major effect on the industry as a whole.
Right, the man may be CEO of a company with fantastic policies, but they haven't had any influence at all.
Class based games? Coop campaigns. Need I continue?
Co-op campaigns? What does Gabe Newell have to do with that?
Co-op campaigns? What does Gabe Newell have to do with that?
Left 4 Dead?
What the fuck this is ridiculous, I'm guessing the survey group was 20 yr old art students...
They're saying this for the same reason that they say iOS is the most popular gaming platform in the world. Millions of people were suddenly carrying around this one piece of hardware that just happened to be powerful enough to play decent games. But Apple has been throwing gamers under the bus for years. I don't see how they deserve this recognition any more than the devs who have been making things for their app store.
I love how mad people get when i said I love my mac and use it for school and music, like i'm so evil person. My mac is solely for school and music, I have a PC for the gaming. I like the mac, and if you don't like it. Don't buy it, but seriously fuck you, It works well for me, and that's all that matters.
I could see using a Mac for a laptop, as they are the only laptops that are not thick brick like devices. I mean in our tablet crazed world, thick portables=no. I just go Desktop + Smartphone though since I have no use for a laptop.
Left 4 Dead?
What's so special about the co-op campaign in Left 4 Dead? There have been co-op in campaigns since the 90's, Baldur's Gate or TimeSplitters for example.
Since the creation of steam, gaming has become increasingly console-focused. It has allowed for indie titles to be distributed easier, yes, but that has had no major effect on the industry as a whole.
Steam has had no major effect on the industry? Clearly I missed something. The fact that gaming has been console-focused for the last decade is simply part of a cycle that has been going on for a couple decades now. Steam is (arguably) singlehandedly responsible for bring PC gaming back into the spotlight during the same time that console gaming was exploding in popularity.
Steve Jobs? Gotta be fucking kidding! I know that Apple had a good but insignificant (IMO) influence over Mobile Gaming but Gaming in general? FUCK NO!
Welp I knew this planet well, time to get ready to go underground and never ever see the light of day again.
Welp I knew this planet well, time to get ready to go underground and never ever see the light of day again.
Most of FP already does that in their basements
Welp I knew this planet well, time to get ready to go underground and never ever see the light of day again.
most of macs fans are underground anyway, but you probably haven't heard of them.
most of macs fans are underground anyway, but you probably haven't heard of them.
What, they are literaly burried?
What, they are literaly burried?
WHOOSH
I've got a windows partition on mine and have photoshop on both, considering I use it a lot it really does make a world of difference.. I don't see why everyone hates mac products that much they're still good computers regardless of what you use them for, the main reason seems to be that they cost more money and if that's the reason then it's not a problem with macs but just a general angst against more affluent people
Windows on mac seems pretty shit, the thing hangs every other second.
What, they are literaly burried?
---------your head---------> ---------the joke------------> (its another joke in case you don't catch on FYI
Why do I live in this planet. John Carmack invented 3D games, Gabe Newell inspired thousands of people to play games. This doesn't make sense anymore.
the only thing this man has really influenced more then anything else is the influx of annoying hipsters. ... and the amount of black turtleneck sweaters being made.
And apparently John Carmack doesn't exist :v:
