• Motherlode of Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior betas found in 3DRealms' archives

I can only imagine what the earliest possible version they can manage to find and get working will end up looking like.
So we're no longer dealing with just that old, broken Lameduke beta, but more properly-working betas with those assets and such all fully functional. That's a very big deal amongst those interested in these things, really; the one the video demonstrates was back when DN3D was supposed to be a (more) direct sequel to Duke Nukem 2, and be a lot more serious.
Oh FUCK! I was WAITING for this to happen for YEARS. People said betas newer than lameduke would never surface, but after hearing people say the same about Half-life, and having that alpha appear, I knew it would happen some day. Oh my god this is amazing.
Can someone explain me why they can't release betas they don't own? didn't someone sell in ebay a half life alpha?
They'd get fired for releasing confidential data or sued by the copyright holders, because even though it's data that stopped being useful a decade ago, companies still want to bury it under locks in the off chance they can do something with it. though, if someone had access to the files, and didn't care about losing their job...
If they wanted to release the source code, they'd have to ask Atari/Monolith.
They'd have to ask Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment. WBI owns Monolith, Monolith had the rights.
I like that Shadow Warrior HUD better.
3D Realms doesn't own the rights to Duke Nukem Forever. If they found anything, they'd need Gearbox's permission whom they're not on great terms with right now. Former 3DR developer Charlie Wiederhold confirmed most of the 2001 trailer was real and playable. This is a video breakdown using his info:
I thought DN:F was alright. Then I saw this. Now I can never play it again.
I hope one of the releases is the original version of the Atomic edition level "Shop n' Bag". Apparently, Levelord's original version (Called Shop n' Drop) was a much better level, and had much more content.
I thought DN:F was alright. Then I saw this. Now I can never play it again.
Now imagine seeing that trailer at E3 2001. The same time range when games like Deus Ex, Max Payne, and Halo were all in the limelight. Back then, especially with that trailer, DNF must have looked fucking incredible.
oh man, i know releasing any info on DNF 2001 is not going to be easy because of the whole gearbox thing, but man i hope at least some gameplay comes out.
On the topic of Prey: I remember hearing rumors that Prey 2 was about 75-90% done when Bethesda/Zenimax canned it. The trailer for that game and some of the media released for it really makes me wish we could see that leak out.
They canned it? What the fuck, I was really looking forward to that a couple of years ago. I'd been wondering why it was gone.
They canned it? What the fuck, I was really looking forward to that a couple of years ago. I'd been wondering why it was gone.
If I remember right, their reason for canning it was "because it looked too much like a tech demo". If that were a tech demo, then that was the absolute BEST, most fleshed out tech demo I have ever fucking seen in my entire life.
