Royal Marine says he only shot an injured Afghan insurgent because he thought they were already dead

I really don't have the urge to kill anyone dude..what I wanted more than anything was just to deploy.
If killing had been part of that deployment, I wouldve been totally ok with that...but I wouldnt wish to end someones life.
A Grunt doesn't have to deploy to understand the fear of a grunt. Your team leaders will literally do things to you behind closed doors that will make you suicidal within a week of being in the infantry.
But, then we have fucking retards like "Seamanstains" that want to say stupid shit like, "Half of the military people on facepunch have no moral code" and it's just complete bullshit.
I'm sorry I get ~deep~ and worked up when I hear complete bullshit, you guys.
Continue spouting blind nonsense out of your mouths so I can practice not freaking the fuck out over ignorant horse shit. :v:
Tbh I find the concept of the military in itself to be a moral failure.
Tbh I find the concept of the military in itself to be a moral failure.
You just had to throw in your $0.02 just when everything is calming down a bit. You are a bit late to the proverbial party.
Tbh I find the concept of the military in itself to be a moral failure.
I agree.
That doesn't make it any less needed in todays day and age.
it seems like when a normal person murders another person they are a monster that deserves life in prison. when you put a fucking uniform on that person a lot of people immediately feel sorry for him.
this guy is a murderer and the way he describes his kill as simply a "lack of self-control" is absolutely disgusting.
I'm sorry, but have you seen what these pieces of shit do? Have you been shot at by these "freedom fighters?"
Call me a murderer all you want, I'm used to it, but don't you dare try to act like this insurgent wouldn't have done the same, or worse.
You just had to throw in your $0.02 just when everything is calming down a bit. You are a bit late to the proverbial party.
I just think it's strange when soldiers say things like this:
I would much rather have dinner with an old Wehrmacht veteran than a member of PETA...
Sorry, but I just find things like this disturbing. PETA people don't go around shooting people to serve the interests of states.

Wars are on a decline.
The sooner we can eradicate armies and war the better.

Right and I know you went through a lot mate, but surely the idea is we're better than them? They're the savage, barbarous religious extremists and we're the reluctant warriors of the cultured, democratic, equal, and secular West. They are the bad to our good, and if we continue to think that way then perhaps we should act that way?
Now your just shitposting. Debate or Get Out.
Why does everything have to be a debate
Sorry, but I just find things like this disturbing. PETA people don't go around shooting people to serve the interests of states.
No, they just firebomb things and kill tens of thousands of animals throughout the course of trying to force their belief on other people. At least having a dinner with a Wermacht veteran would give you some very interesting insight into WWII or just life in general, or just have a nice chat over some good food.

I agree, but the thing is that is not going to happen even remotely soon

I know. I understand. I just hate that "murderer in uniform" phrase. I know we should try to be better then them, and I understand that this lad had a slip in judgment and a lapse of anger. We need to be better then the insurgents, but the fact one of them would rather die just to nick you and some of your mates makes that hard.
And don't treat soldiers like mindless, calculating killing machines. I'm just as human as anyone else on this forum.
No, they just bomb things and kill tens of thousands of civilians throughout the course of trying to force their belief on other people.
Yeah sounds like Wermacht to me

Excuse me for taking advantage of the opportunity to learn more about WW2 History as opposed to hearing a bunch of bullshit while I'm trying to eat my veal.
I once knew a Canadian combat medic who was a good friend of the family, who was killed when militants attacked the armored transport he was in. These were peacekeepers by the way.
So who's going to charge the militants for war crimes?
I never once said "We are the good guys." What I did say is that when insurgents do all of this horrible shit, I can't bring myself to care for them when a royal marine shoots a wounded one dead.
It depends on the soldier. It'd still be likely you'd find somebody who at the very least, believed in the message of the party.
If it was say somebody who was a member of the party, it'd be even more likely. I wouldn't be very keen on dinner with somebody who knowingly allowed genocide to take place.

Just saying but killing a combat medic in an unmarked armoured vehicle isn't a warcrime.

That's really silly.
"I'm going to block out free knowledge that comes from someone who had a view I don't agree with 50 years ago."
What about animal genocide?

are we expected to take this seriously? of all the charges levied at PETA animal genocide is the most ridiculous one

Well, apparently you're wrong. :v:

Well I wouldn't be too keen on dining with a shrill protester or a member of the Nazi party. However I think I would prefer to dine with the protester given that although they do kill animals due to the sheer numbers of being unable to care for them, they don't go around selectively targeting ethnic groups for eradication.

do you know what genocide means
[editline]30th October 2013[/editline]
i didnt realise peta membership involved having to murder an ethnic group, must have missed that in the brochure

Let's not get started on this. I have nothing against Arabs at all. Hell, I'm not even from the US. And trust me, once you serve four years in combat, you'll understand why the Taliban and such are our enemies.
[editline]31st October 2013[/editline]
I mean, unless you're fine seeing women executed because you hesitated to take a shot that could have saved her life.
I'm going to stop myself there. I don't want to ruin my night tonight.
the point i was making is that dehumanising people is a sure-fire way to deepen any resentment
you're still shooting a person to death. once you just see them as "the taliban" then youll fail to realise youre killing human beings. and when you fail to see them as human beings you fail to realise why they're fighting you in the first place.
taliban didnt just show up one day and decided they hated americans. they come from the mujahideen who fought another set of people whod flown over from a distant land.
all this bullshit does is just perpetuate kids grabbing guns and killing other kids for no reason
He killed an insurgent what a terrible person he doesn't deserve any fucking time

Dude, believe me. You don't want to overthink this sort of shit in the Infantry. :v:

Killing someone in combat is different to straight up execution

Are you implying that the Taliban's main cause is to be freedom fighters fighting the Americans whom invade their lands? Because if so I think you need to brush up on your Wikipedia based knowledge of the history of Afghanistan.

That'a a interesting subject you have raised, what, pray tell, drives the Taliban against the US and the US agaisnt Taliban? I mean in the nineties the US even supported the Taliban as they were seen as anti-Iran.
