Are you implying that the Taliban's main cause is to be freedom fighters fighting the Americans whom invade their lands?
yeah cool wikipedia zing dude except i didnt even talk about that at all, i said they come from the mujahideen. the taliban are not kill droids. they have their own reasons to fight and by forgetting that you perpetuate dehumanisation. They're just doing their thing..the thing they've been doing for hundreds of years now. I wouldn't expect them to do any different.

They're still humans; just really shitty ones whom I wouldn't really mind if they went away permanently.

Its a word for fighter, or anyone involved in a struggle. It's almost identical in meaning to jihad. It was just used to refer to anyone who took up arms against the soviet invaders during that period. The taliban was started by a former fighter, but it is in no way linked with "mujahideen" as evidenced by the fact most of the anti taliban groups (which have existed as long as the taliban have, well before any western involvement) are also populated by veterans of the soviet conflict. The taliban do have their own reasons for fighting, yeah, none of them particularly reasonable. Please dont start this shit again where people start likening the taliban to the insurgency in Iraq because its nothing alike.
i dont know what the point of that ramble was, but im not incorrect at all in saying that the taliban stemmed from the mujahideen. both were funded and trained by pakistan. if you want to get pedantic about mujahideen then the taliban isnt technically a group either, but a loose confederation of political allies in other to consolidate power.
