So the closest thing you could was a planned suicide bomb attack
lmao
the guy approached them on a donkey knowing they wouldn't shoot him, then detonated. I fail to see how this isn't a good example.
lmao
so a planned suicide attack really isn't the evidence you've been asked to provide though.

uh
they were relying on the fact that they wouldn't shoot a civilian approaching them
i said that they don't indiscriminately shoot civilians, even if they are close to them
even if my point is somehow wrong i think what i said pertains to that

If you don't understand the mentality of a 17 year old infantryman, don't jump to conclusions.

I understand that taking satisfaction from killing is fucked up.
You really should not be in the military if this is how your mind works.
we're talking about shooting injured combatants.
it seemed to me that he was asking for a source on them using civillians etc.
either way, the Taliban don't have a great track record when it comes to playing nice.
btw i am not at all supporting the guy or summary executions, what i'm saying doesn't have to do with this
I never deployed

I never deployed so I never had the satisfaction of doing this. (Understand the Infantry mentality of "KILL" before you call me psychotic)

The whole idea of finding satisfaction in taking a persons life is what is psychotic
from what i can tell, the geneva conventions mean jack shit if the other side doesnt sign them and breaks them first
i think we've all seen enough headlines to know that the above reigns true
so
don't see much of a problem here?
nvm gunfox already said it fuk u gunfox eet dik
So we should lower ourselves to the level of these insurgents. We should just behead every insurgent we capture because "they'd do it to us". Is this how modern military machines work now?

Shooting an enemy after they go down and continuing to clear a building would be acceptable. People may morally disagree with it, but you have a building to clear and you have absolutely zero margin of error in building clearing. It is exceptionally dangerous.
This was different. The area was secure. He just walked in and shot him because he wanted to.
Now I understand the feelings of hatred for the people you are engaging, but summary executions are not the order of the day and thereby need to be punished in at least some capacity.
Why the fuck does it even matter hes the enemy that needs to be disposed off.
War isn't black and white. You can't label every involved country or army as "good" or "evil". You're self-justifying what you just said purely from your own morality and mindset from this.

did you just come back from watching Fight Club or something
Allied troops are held to an impossibly high standard of conduct on the battlefield, while insurgents seem to get a free pass for the butchery that they commit. An insurgent is dead. He will no longer commit said acts of butchery ever again, while this infantryman is getting a court martial. Infantry aren't there to blow sunshine up everyone's ass, they are there to kill the enemy, a job that they are trained to do, and are very good at doing.

Fun fact, the U.S. Marine Corps doesn't even clear buildings if they think they have more than 5 hostiles in them. they just blow it up.

He's showing the world how unique and edgy he is by joining the military
You know, the one place where your individuality means everything

Is the satisfaction of killing a man who fired live ordnance in your direction only seconds earlier psychotic to you too? Because that's what it literally comes down to.
Sgt. Micheal Cable, a friend of mine when I was a new joe was stabbed in the throat and killed by an enemy combatant on this last deployment. The combatant was a child who gained his trust and then ended his life in front of my entire company.
I know it was just a kid, but would loading a burst of gunfire into that kid, after he just killed your buddy be psychotic to you too?
If it is, you're a bit more blind and status quo than I thought.
Why the fuck does it even matter hes the enemy that needs to be disposed off.
insurgent or not, you don't execute people. war isn't a videogame.

Wow you're like archtype character drawn from Dispatches or something lmao
you're like a case study why its a horrible institution

how is having an objectively controversial opinion "status quo"
that isn't even an adjective, it's not a thing

Yes insurgents get such a free pass they only have to fight the most advanced military in the world gosh it must be like a holiday for them.

Having met marines, I'm pretty sure they think a McDonalds in the middle of Utah has at least five hostiles in it. They also likely believe the moon is made of cheese and that Afghanistan is either a country somewhere in Africa or that thing their mother sent to keep them warm in that care package.

I'm sorry, Sir, But you're wrong.
Watch a friend get killed right in front of you (not even necessarily while in the military) and see how quickly your view changes on the subject.
Satisfaction in UNWARRANTED killing is wrong and is a sign of a future psychotic serial killer.
Satisfaction in killing a man who just killed one of your own is not fucked up by any means.
Being an Infantryman is NOT about baking cakes or grooming puppies.
Being an Infantryman IS about directing well aimed fire towards enemy sectors.
Don't know why I had to clarify this..but some of us here on facepunch live in fucking lala-land when it comes to your views on what the Infantry is all about.

I meant that allied soldiers have such a restrictive rules of engagement and conduct that they practically have to be battlefield lawyers. It has made combat decisions very difficult to make, and has made many hesitate to make a decision which has then led to people dying or what have you. They have to consider the incredible amount of laws governing combat, while the insurgent just go ahead and set off bombs in the middle of packed bazaars, not giving a crap about anything, or exploiting the laws that they know we have to inflict bad casualties and force people into situations where it is either their life or their career that they have to choose between.

Yes NoDachi, we know you're all edgy making jokes out of the deaths of American Infantrymen..fucking kudos.
The funny thing is...the Infantry really isn't an awesome institution to be a part of if you want to retain mental sanity. You're actually right on the spot as far as that goes.
