I signed for it, so it is under my care. Have you ever had a car or bike that you really liked and got attached to? Did you give it a name? It's the same thing with military equipment that you are assigned. You get attached to it and get a certain sense of pride out of keeping it operational.

I get pride for keeping it working and not causing friendly casualties. But it's still a machine, getting overly attached to them in general is kinda weird. People who insist on naming their cars are pretty odd.

A Grunt doesn't have to deploy to understand the fear of a grunt. Your team leaders will literally do things to you behind closed doors that will make you suicidal within a week of being in the infantry.
