Metal Gear Solid 5 is coming out as well as Watch Dogs. So yeah, pretty excited for both.
I have never noticed any difference, save for original Xbox games. And I play on a 42". [editline]16th January 2014[/editline] I still hope to get a Wii U this gen, those are sexy
The difference between 720p and 1080p are huge. I still can't believe people don't think it is a big deal. Try running your 1920x1080 native PC monitor at 1280x720 and tell me it's not a big deal. Just from my personal experience, most people who say it doesn't matter have older or smaller 720p only TV's. It is 2014, I'd be disappointed if my console wasn't able to run at my TV's native resolution.
It begs the question though, baring brand loyalty and ignorance, who exactly is the xbone supposed to convince to pick it over the PS4?
somebody who wants to buy the xbone? somebody who likes its exclusives? somebody who wants the multimedia bullshit they've been advertising? just because a bunch of nerds who know a lot about videogames don't like it doesn't mean that it's a useless hunk of technology
Notice how both of these lists are relatively shit.
It begs the question though, baring brand loyalty and ignorance, who exactly is the xbone supposed to convince to pick it over the PS4?
Well I certainly don't appreciate PS4's limitations on media playback; I like the media capabilities of the Xbox One. Besides, I have a Windows 8 machine, a Windows Phone and I think an Xbox One (with Smartglass, Skydrive, Xbox live and Skype integration) could make a nice experience with my other two devices. [editline]17th January 2014[/editline] The PS4 isn't bad at all either and if the Xbox One doesn't launch this year in here (or at least appears unofficially in retailers) I might get one instead of the Xbox.
This really kind of shows that most consumers don't care what the console does, they just buy it because it has the Xbox name on it. It's pretty terrible because the Xbone could have stayed the same and may have still have sold a ton, sure it would likely sell less but it will still sell a lot.
hey hey hey guess what; most people a) don't know and b) don't care about the nebulous implied values of a company that a bunch of nerds on the internet have 'uncovered' [editline]17th January 2014[/editline]
It begs the question though, baring brand loyalty and ignorance, who exactly is the xbone supposed to convince to pick it over the PS4?
neither of them have any games on them atm that i'd consider killer exclusives, honestly there's no clear 'winner' with regard to software yet, and considering that is the only thing that you should be buying a console for anyway (since in all regards other than exclusives they're essentially artificially limited PCs) either one is as good a choice as the other
neither of them have any games on them atm that i'd consider killer exclusives, honestly there's no clear 'winner' with regard to software yet, and considering that is the only thing that you should be buying a console for anyway (since in all regards other than exclusives they're essentially artificially limited PCs) either one is as good a choice as the other
History has shown that playstation exclusives are, for the most part, better than xbox ones. If I had to choose, I'd get a ps4 because of that
History has shown that playstation exclusives are, for the most part, better than xbox ones.
If I was to get a new console, tbh I'd want a xbox one because of its media features and software, ps4 doesn't appeal to me
You're like the first person I've seen to ever speak positively about those features.
History has shown that playstation exclusives are, for the most part, better than xbox ones. If I had to choose, I'd get a ps4 because of that
There's only 2 exclusives in the history of p3 that I cared enough about to still remember and 1 of them eventually went to xbox with the expansion, so honestly I'm not sold on the whole playstation exclusives = better bit. Either way I don't see any games on the PS4 or xbox one I'd ever buy a console for so I don't really want either.
Neither of them being available in Japan.
what why. Sony global headquarters are in Tokyo and the whole nation is renowned for having the latest and greatest in tech, I don't get it.
This really kind of shows that most consumers don't care what the console does, they just buy it because it has the Xbox name on it.
You're like the first person I've seen to ever speak positively about those features.
The argument against the xbox's media features was always extremely weak anyways. People were always constantly going "well look they don't even care about the games" because they were disproportionately showing media content over games, but that doesn't matter. They probably just figured that everybody knows that a new version of a console will play games with incremental improvements in graphics performance, like every other new version of a console in history :v: It kinda seems to me though that consoles are just becoming more and more like a closed PC so I have no idea how that's going to work out down the line
You're like the first person I've seen to ever speak positively about those features.
I don't need a hardcore gaming console when I've got my PC, if I buy a console I'd buy an xbone for all the extra media stuff. I've been saying that since they were announced. Edit: It's like a HTPC that can also play cool games.
Everywhere I looked PS4s were out of stock.
From what I've heard, Sony is having problems producing enough to supply stores.
From what I've heard, Sony is having problems producing enough to supply stores.
With 52 countries that's a given. There's a reason why the Xbone is in stock basically all the time, it's because it's only released in 13 countries.
So what you're saying is they've spread themselves too thin?
how and why is this dumb
This really kind of shows that most consumers don't care what the console does, they just buy it because it has the Xbox name on it.
So what you're saying is they've spread themselves too thin?
Pretty much, they're obviously having supply issues.
Metal Gear Solid 5 is coming out as well as Watch Dogs. So yeah, pretty excited for both.
both (well hopefully MGS) are coming to pc so i dont really see a reason for a console atm other than to play with friends. but im not shelling out 500$ for a fucking console, thats ludicrous. [editline]17th January 2014[/editline]
what why. Sony global headquarters are in Tokyo and the whole nation is renowned for having the latest and greatest in tech, I don't get it.
honestly the console market for japan lately has been extremely meh, the much larger market is the mobile game market that is with cellphones and handhelds. consoles take too much space in most circumstances and time.
I'm not judging people for buying Xbone - it's their choice which I will respect. But I certainly don't get the popularity, considering Microsoft's dumb backpedaling policy.
man people sure are upset the xbone is actually succeeding, at least it seems like it anyway
man people sure are upset the xbone is actually succeeding, at least it seems like it anyway
because overall the console looks very meh compared to ps4 graphics wise and price wise. a prime example is that people are buying it when microsoft makes a much larger profit, meaning they are fucking the userbase sideways but they still buy it: most people i know that got a one is because other people got it instead of ps4 because how bad ps3 was at launch.
is it really that big a deal though, that people are buying it? they want it, let them, there shouldn't be anything against people buying more xbones than ps4's really, also making a larger profit =/= fucking the userbase, really, the price is there infront of them, it's not as if they add a 100$ fee to it after you buy it or something, the buyer makes the choice "this cost 100$ more but ill still buy it!"

Last report I saw would suggest that the profit margin is pretty similar.
What source is this from? Last report I saw would suggest that the profit margin is pretty similar.
It was from a total breakdown of pulling the consoles apart piece by piece from here: http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1320199 [editline]17th January 2014[/editline]
is it really that big a deal though, that people are buying it? they want it, let them, there shouldn't be anything against people buying more xbones than ps4's really, also making a larger profit =/= fucking the userbase, really, the price is there infront of them, it's not as if they add a 100$ fee to it after you buy it or something, the buyer makes the choice "this cost 100$ more but ill still buy it!"
Yeah that would be true about not fucking them over if they did tell people they did it for money and not really the tech inside costing more.
Just shows how much of an echo-chamber the internet is and how little effect we have on consumers as a whole.
I buy every console eventually even handhelds and an up to date PC. Some people buy expensive boats and cars I buy lots of expensive gaming shit :v: Just my 2 cents based on playing both They're both pretty similar in hardware power to the point of that they're gonna both be pretty fucking similar for the next 5-7 years to the point where it won't even be noticeable until the end of the generation. The Xbone games that run at 720p are because of the time from the lack of optimization. Sony pushed game devs really fucking hard to have all their shit playable on there console at E3 and I think most of the games running at 60fps at 1080 at launch is the result of that. The one thing everyone doesn't realize thats hilarious is the software on the PS4 is vastly superior to the Xbox One. The Xbox One I have to constantly unplug to clear its memory so I can use party chat or the controller again and sometimes games cause an out of memory crash to dashboard but wether thats Xbones fault there or lazy devs I don't know. The UI is also god fucking awful. Just imagine 360 being W7 and Xbone being W8 and its kinda like that. Everything is buried under menus and toggles which has been a terrible experience so far. This company mindset that Sony is a hero is also misguided. Did everyone just forget about how they relentlessly chased that guy who cracked one of the replaceable software keys on the PS3? Only to have the non replaceable ones to be cracked later by some fringe group no one heard of. They also made PS+ required for online games which granted dosen't bug me because of all the games but I know it ruffled some feathers of people I know.
