He is retiring to pursue his dream of being an actor.
Doesn't change the fact that he openly wanted Africans to not use condoms to avoid AIDS.
Doesn't matter. He's not a Nazi. Nor discouraging the use of condoms gives you the excuse to call someone a Nazi.
Maybe he fell in love with a lady and decided to throw aside the papal shackles and follow his heart
maybe he fell in love with a man that would be amazingly ironic
Doesn't matter. The analysis reveals that the Pope can be regarded as a super villain, just not a particularly good one. This is arguably the worst of both worlds, so feel free to mock him all you want.
Why is this so downplayed? This should be on the news literally everywhere.
I hope someon less traditional gets elected.
I don't know how the internal politicking of the Catholic Church works, but it seems an impossible task. You have to be elected by the College of Cardinals, whom I bet are conservative as fuck.
Well from what I've heard his health is deteriorating and he's not all there anymore or something. At Christmas he wasn't reading the right yoke and went off rambling, he sent texts to the wrong people and he's signed some of the wrong documents. It's all speculation, but if it's true it seems the dark force has left him. In fact everything has left him. He's gone.
Yeah guys, because not openly attacking the use of condoms immediately makes you a much better pope. John Paul II reaffirmed the Church stance on social issues just as much as Benedict did, only he did it quietly. He was one of JP's closest confidants. What we really need is another John Paul I. That guy could've been a great pope.

Time for a Black, Jewish, female, lesbian pope.
Time for a Black, Jewish, female, lesbian pope.
Or just a female pope. That'll throw things around (especially with 'pope' meaning 'father')
Or just a female pope. That'll throw things around (especially with 'pope' meaning 'father')
the mote
A few days after that kickstarter to build the Death Star, he steps down. A coincidence? I think not...
This came to mind
Or just a female pope. That'll throw things around (especially with 'pope' meaning 'father')
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Joan
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Joan

It was widely believed for centuries, though modern religious scholars consider it fictitious, perhaps deriving from historicized folklore regarding Roman monuments or from anti-papal satire.
I'd assume there wasn't a female pope yet. I can't see it happening for a while, we'll definitely have had a wide variety of presidents before a female pope imo.
how sad...
I'd assume there wasn't a female pope yet. I can't see it happening for a while, we'll definitely have had a wide variety of presidents before a female pope imo.
what we need is a midget pope
I'd assume there wasn't a female pope yet. I can't see it happening for a while, we'll definitely have had a wide variety of presidents before a female pope imo.
You can't really have a female pope because the current positions in the levels of Catholic clergy do not allow for women to ascend to the rank of cardinal. Getting a pope that would allow both genders into the hierarchy would be a drastic change as is.
Maybe he got involved in a sex scandal?
dude maybe he got involved in the catholic church
Well, I guess this is the best time to announce that I, yes me, am officially throwing my hat into the race for the Papacy. I promise if elected to bring respectability back to this illustrious office.
http://kath.net/suche.php?suche=Turkson&&volltext=yes About Turkson. I know it's German but hey. He basically proposes a Christian financial system much like a muslim financial system already exists in Southeast Asia. On the other side he had no problem asking the UN for help when Boko Haram attacked Christians but that could be bad too. Also he warned the African countries that the lack of freedom leading to the Arabic Spring does also exist in other African countries. My opinion so far: What a sly talker he is. Every statement he ever does can always be interpreted good and bad.
He resigned because he doesent feel he is in the mental and physical condition to continue to rule the Churc at best.. It's perfectly fine and vatican rules allow a pope to resign, but he will no-longer be considered a S.Peters descendent.
I guess they don't make popes tough like they used to.
Maybe he got involved in a sex scandal?

Father Lombardi said the Pope would then move into a monastery of cloistered nuns inside the Vatican, for "a period of prayer and reflection".
Perhaps he's planning on it?
Wow! This is amazing :) I'm actually gonna be in Rome when they figure out the new pope.
Word of advice: Make sure to hang out around the Italian part of the crowd if you go; they're the fun bunch. If you go back and watch John Paul II's funeral every time the camera pans over the crowd you can spot the Italians because they're the ones jumping around and cheering and having a jolly old time. Then again, that could have just been riotous rage.
Maybe he fell in love with a lady and decided to throw aside the papal shackles and follow his heart
being pope didn't stop alexander vi from getting down with the ladies.
Woah. This is huge. It's also weird. Wasn't there some Seer that listed the titles of all past and future popes and ended on the title for this one? I don't believe in that stuff, but that's too weird.
Fuck all these casuals, this is my bet for the next pope
Let's hope the next one isn't a complete bass-ackwards nazi. Hey, it can happen! There's non-batshit christians out there! Just... Probably none running for pope.
Most of us are Protestant, though. We leave the bat-shitness for the Catholics and the WBC. Also, I vote Father Mulcahy from MASH as next Pope.
Found a quote in a CNN article "Strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me." So I guess even old people want to retire?
He's obviously resigned to reprise his role as Palpatine in the new Star Wars movie.
