Who kills themselves because an anonymous user was being mean to them on a website
Usually these kids already have issues, either personally or mentally. I'm pretty sure most people would go with your line of thought. Still, that article is depressing as everloving fuck.
Honestly I wish people would stop calling on the government to solve every one of life's problems, there are suicide hotlines, support groups, the NHS and as a last line of defense there is the parent. You can't save everyone, some people are going to die.
Oh you bet I do, and the ones I know wouldn't kill themselves over a bunch of words from someone on the internet. If they went with it, they would go for actually tough shit in life they can't even begin to figure out, instead of a few words from someone being mean to them. [editline]6th August 2013[/editline] But I thought I wouldn't get mean people saying mean things to me after I said I'd answer just about every question made and make videos :'( Shit like that is just asking to get "bullied". It's not even the "hurr she's [whatever reason someone would bully someone else for], lets get her!", its the fact that you're being a complete idiot with an ego the size of a house, who's probably about to say personal shit about yourself AND others and even judge other people as if your opinion would be worth any money whatsoever.
Not everyone is the same and not everyone gets depressed for "actually tough shit". There are so many things that contribute to emotional well being, teenagers are already boiling pots of explosive angst which makes matters even worse. That attitude of "you don't get to feel this way" is so incredibly harmful to one of these people, why would you do something like that and force guilt onto someone who is already in a vulnerable position?
Jesus if there getting that much abuse over ask.fm I don't see why they can't just delete there account :|
What happened to laughing at yourself? Does no one do that anymore? When someone says I'm dumb for doing something stupid, I laugh and say, "Yeah, I whacked my head off a few poles when I was younger" and laugh. Jeez.
you might notice that people with mental issues (like, you know, suicidal depression) have significant difficulties behaving the same way as you
I asked if you knew anything about suicide and clearly you don't. The fact that you think your anecdote counts for anything, and that you think people literally kill themselves over internet comments proves nothing beyond your staggering ignorance. It's also nice that you're blaming her for being "bullied" (nice scare quotes btw) and haven't said a word about, you know, the people who are being assholes in the first place.
The people who typed words and suddenly are evil? Wow, there would be no cod players if everyone was suicidal for fucking words. I do know. I do know people who actually had lives so fucked up that you couldn't believe it, far beyond "whaaaa nobody likes me". If she killed herself cuz of shit on her ask.fm page, then I do blame only her.
it was probably people who knew her and were insulting her personally guys
you might notice that people with mental issues (like, you know, suicidal depression) have significant difficulties behaving the same way as you
Then how could this be possibly helped? She didn't ask for help, anywhere, from anyone? Just went, "Oh my life sucks, people bully me on the internet, ah blu blu blu" when in all reality, there are plenty of people willing to help. Which I don't get. If you seem to think that you're unfit for this world, why not think otherwise? Or think that yes, things suck, life sucks at times, but there are moments in our lives that have to be lived out, even if some of them seem shitty. At least, that's the way I look at life now.
Took me a good few minutes to realize that the title says David Cameron and not James Cameron. I kept asking myself, "Why the hell is a movie director involved with this website?".
it was probably people who knew her and were insulting her personally guys
Then lets take down facebook, twitter, myspace and...ect
Is it honestly that hard to ignore what people say on the internet? Hell you can even change settings and stuff on almost every website to stop some people. Don't take anything seriously on the internet, it's quite pathetic that this can even happen
Holding the website responsible is stupid, though if you harass someone to the point that they kill themselves you should be held responsible for it But charging the people who operate the medium used is like charging city workers because their road was used for a hit-and-run
I still don't get why people take words on a screen so seriously. On the internet.
I never understood this argument. Because somebody says it over the internet it has less meaning? What about if somebody says it over the phone? Or writes it on paper and mails it to you? Is somebody's words only meaningful if they say it to your face? Personally I think something said has the same worth regardless of method of delivery. In fact, since you are generally safely hidden from harm using methods like internet, you're more likely to say something nasty.
Then how could this be possibly helped? It doesn't help that when you try talking to somebody about it, they say stuff like "stop being so whiney!" or "get over it".

I'd argue that it's worse to get insulted on the internet. In many cases you can't fire back, and you can't physically remove them like you can when it's face-to-face.
I always thought ask.fm was a music website.
Who kills themselves because an anonymous user was being mean to them on a website
The kind of "special snowflake" shitheads that litter sites like Facebook who are too sensitive. You know what? When I was first given access to the internet, I was about 8 years old. I was always getting banned and insulted. Hell, it got worse here. People need to man the fuck up about it. Some people will be dicks no matter where you are or who you are. But these people are so sheltered and spend their childhoods getting rainbows and sunshine blown up their ass. They don't know how to deal with this shit because our nation and culture has exhausted itself trying to get rid of bullying without realizing that, as bad as it is, we need it. Bullying prepares you for hardship and it helps you learn how to cope. I can say I would not be the individual I was today without bullying, for better or worse.
Um, mods? Somebody want to do something about these d*mn bullies?
I think a certain mod *cough*Max*cough* is the first one that rated you "dumb".
is it cyberbullying to go to bad deviant art pictures, point out things that detract from the work in a maybe not so "constructive" way but more "yo arms don't work like that" way, and then watch as the people blow up and continue to feed them by pointing out more reasons as well as explaining the flaws and potential ways to fix them, all while they yell at me about how it is their "style" when it is obviously a lack of technique and skill?
How hard is it?
anonymous questions are the whole appeal of Ask.fm though, but if you're stupid enough to take the shit they tell you there seriously you shouldn't even sign up for it to begin with.
I've been "cyberbullied" pretty badly, both by people who I know in real life and by anonymous people The solution is to get the fuck over it
I'm pretty sure more people get killed every year by toilets than this website, whelp better ban toilets
since when does trolling = bullying?
She definitely was egged on by someone she knew - this has a lot broader of a reach than just one website. If anything, I blame the parents for attributing it only to ask.fm, and not questioning why they weren't paying more attention to her life to notice the signs pointing to this.
There's a lot of variables. It might have been a person/a group of people she knew in real life that were also harassing her on the internet. Or it could have been just a couple of random people, and she just happened have suicidal tendencies and took a comment by some random, anonymous person more seriously that she normally would. It's hard to judge when you don't know all the details.
I agree with the guy that said whoever kills themselves over this must have a mental disorder. The bottom line is that something must be wrong with you, as an individual, if you do not possess the common sense to realize that opening up an account on a website like that is almost guaranteed to generate negative criticism and comments, and even further to let comments on said website ever affect you mentally, even for a second. Some guy said sarcastically "oh use ear plugs in public spaces so no one can verbal abuse you." It's completely different, we're on the internet, we are using a personalized machine to show us exactly what we want, the only things we see on this screen are the results of our actions, if you don't want to be harassed over the internet just avoid the harassment, seriously literally just avoid it, whether it be a site, a person, a user, block/remove/stop going to whatever, it's really easy. It's as if the internet is some malicious being seeking out innocent victims, e-bullying simply does not exist. Bullying is something you cannot help, I don't think the people that buy into this understand what personalized computers are.
A person who is capable of commiting suicide because of the internet should not be on the internet in the first place. In a way it's like toddlers and power sockets, really. Her parents should have seen that coming.
Except most people who are actually suicidal generally keep it a secret for fear or embarrassment, and the like, and someone who is in the state of mind to do this is probably not going to be following the same train as thought as you.
Why the fuck do people even care about cyberbullying to begin with, it's people calling you names on the internet, get the fuck over with. Not everyone has to appreciate you on the internet. Stuff like 4chan grade harassment is serious business and is actually a threat to one's well being, but making fun of someone over the internet is not the worst thing in the world. People who get upset at this sort of shit seem to mostly be overprotected spoiled children who don't have to go through real life bullying, and who are treated by their parents as such perfect unique snowflakes that anyone giving them the smallest harsh comment over the internet gets them throwing gaskets. Maybe it's because I was bullied IRL a lot (including direct physical assault, and not just pushing around), but people being mean on the internet just goes past me like water off a duck's back. People need to grow up.
since when does trolling = bullying?
Because it's harassment, and bullying is harassment? The fact that it's done over a computer screen and keyboard doesn't matter much, you're still communicating things.
Dumb girl. Dumb parents. Don't be situated in the kitchen if heat makes you suicidal. That simple.
This should seriously be an example of what kind of posts not to make.
Why the fuck do people even care about cyberbullying to begin with, it's people calling you names on the internet, get the fuck over with. Not everyone has to appreciate you on the internet.
I'm sorry, but a good majority of your posts simply boil down to "I don't care one bit." People care about these things because they effect people, this isn't something amazingly intricate and complicated.
Because it's harassment, and bullying is harassment? The fact that it's done over a computer screen and keyboard doesn't matter much, you're still communicating things.
The thing is Bullying has a physical presence. It's someone being there, physically harassing you until they had enough, until they can't physically reach you anymore or until you find an extreme solution. Trolling is something done over the internet that you can literally suppress with a single button. This is what reports/ignore buttons are for. If anything you can just stop browsing that shitty website where people insult you all day and go find somewhere else to hang around.
The way I see it: bullying solely on the internet: turn off the computer take a walk, bring it up with your parents in person plus internet: then that's cause for alarm
The way I see it: bullying solely on the internet: turn off the computer take a walk, bring it up with your parents in person plus internet: then that's cause for alarm
Which is why people should be concerned about 4chan tracking down people and finding out their address, because that's actually starting to be an issue. Just saying meanie things over the internet without even remotely knowing the person or living anywhere near them isn't really much of a concern.
