the fact that you think today's version of the game is superior to back in 2007
Could you tell us WHY?
grand exchange literally killed the fun of going to the bank, while it was a great improvement to put all the trades and sellers into one spot, it got cluttered and i found banks were easier cause there was underground/upperground areas to sell/buy
yeah, the whole point of runescape was scamming the idiots who wasted hours doing shit legitimately and they removed most of that ability when they brought in those safety nets like the exchange and the wilderness changes

This might be enough for me to get back into Runescape. I used to like it, but Jagex changed the game and website too much. It felt too corporate and greedy for money. The atmosphere and tone became too much like EA or Activision.
Our team then set out to see if we had a backup that went that far back
It strikes me as odd that they wouldn't have backups of everything. Sure, you may not need old resources, but that's no reason not to keep it on a 1 terabyte hard drive stored in the bottom shelf of your desk.
If they get those 500,000 votes (they probably won't) I'll gladly jump back into the game. I wonder if that snapshot also has old user accounts. Back in 2007 I wasn't muted. I think.
I can't even play the current Runescape because my bank and inventory is full of member items and i'm not a member anymore.
fuck man i remember runescape i used to be an illegitimate cake dealer i'd steal cakes till my inventory was full in that one big ol' members only city, then ride a boat across the whole continent and sell all the cakes off at the grand exchange, rinse and repeat for loads of dosh
Lame, the GE makes the game a million times more convenient, having fun spending hundreds of hours getting scammed for supplys to get them 99''s
Lame, the GE makes the game a million times more convenient, having fun spending hundreds of hours getting scammed for supplys to get them 99''s
Well if you have half of a functioning brain, you usually don't get scammed on a game like RuneScape.
There are so many things that have been introduced into RS that current players take for granted. Back in 2007 there was NO high level content. None. Nothing to aim for besides rares, and they won't even be ingame. All xp goals will take significantly longer, all conveniences lost. No make-x, no bank-all, not bank tabs, no ge 'place offer and logout' type of deal. Besides nostalgia, 2007 RS looks like shit.
Well if you have half of a functioning brain, you usually don't get scammed on a game like RuneScape.
Im talking only about a few gp more per item just so you don't have to stand around for ages. If you want to play old runescape go to a private server.

If you want to play old runescape go to a private server.
I've been an administrator on a relatively successful private server since January of 2008. It still doesn't compare. You can't expect a small development team of teenage java developers to provide an experience as similar to one that an established company like Jagex offers. And I say that knowing that our developers are about as good as it gets for a bunch of 18-20 year olds. Just saying. Jagex made a lot of drastic changes to their game that alienated a huge portion of their player base. It's really cool that they're going to give the community the ability to decide if they want the old revisions back or not. I don't see why it is a problem that they do this considering you won't be forced to play on the 2007 servers.

These servers will receive continuous maintenance, modern anti-bot technology if necessary and - crucially - regular members' polls to determine which updates you want to see prioritised. This seems to me that if people don't shit the bed too hard then there might be all of the convenience stuff in it.

I think.
It uses the current account database however you start off fresh in the 2007 version (this means items arent transferred to current runescape to 07 runescape) I do hope they keep random events like that fucking cat that would take you to some island to unmicrowave lobsters and you'd get a token as a reward (was it a token, was something else idk)
I wonder how they are going to do like, rares and such?
Aw man, if only blizzard did this with WoW
This thread is a major case of nostalgia vision. 1 week after those 2007 servers are released, they will be totally dead.
Was this before or after they ruined the Wilderness
Before
I remember being being reported by someone nearby and getting permanently muted because I talked about GTA SA. :v: Then after a year of not playing I came back to find out I wasn't muted anymore, then later on I got muted again. My favorite random event was being sent to that prison in the alternate Runescape, fuck I always wanted to explore outside that place.
I used to see people playing this all the time on the computers at the Public Library here, never really had that much interest in it.
CHART lol
Well... That explains it then I guess :v:
runescape used to be my life when i was like 8 lol, if i tried to play it now i'd probably suffer a hemorrhage
lol
Even though that's Google searches, it can be directly related to the popularity of the game and where it's going.
It says in the FAQ that everyone will have to start fresh. Cant really be bothered. I was hoving around 50,000th by the time they killed it with the wildy update. Had a somewhat healthy 30m balance as well. Dont fancy starting from scratch.
