If they can survive their whole life up until that point, they can survive the relatively short time they have left in prison
Except they mostly deal with hell their whole life up to that point, and continuing to wait only worsens the effects.
Guys, being transgender doesn't just make you sad.
First, we have to start with the cause of transgenderism, which is thought to be incorrect sex hormones delivered by the mother during crucial brain development. When this happens, a child develops with physically the opposite gender's brain. This is demonstrated by male-to-female transgendered people having the brain structure of a biological female and vice versa.

That really doesn't explain other dysphorias like species dysphoria http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Species_dysphoria though, and it's pretty obvious that all these dysphorias are related in some way psychologically more than physically. But yeah... I don't know that much about it all tbh

So it's most likely to be a mental disorder like Aspergers, ADD and similar.

You can't really compare the two since Gender Dysphoria is actually defined and recognized by the psychological community, Species Dysphoria isn't.
Technically speaking, you're arguing that her case is special because it causes her severe emotional trauma.
And a person who is genetically obese, or has some sort of visible defect should not get the same trearment unless it's health threatening.
Sorry but that's being a hypocrite. You have to approach all of these problems in the same way, because like it or not they are comparable.
Well emotional trauma and the fact that the place already okayed her doing hormone therapy.
Except they mostly deal with hell their whole life up to that point, and continuing to wait only worsens the effects.
So continue to deal with it some more, they were able to deal to go out and commit a crime so the moment they did that I stopped giving two shits about this person. Honestly, there are hundreds of things out there that deserve money, and an operation on a convict is near the very bottom of the list.
He's got 40 years left on his sentence, deal with them as a man. He robbed banks, stealing other people's money, regardless of the reason. He should not be given this luxury to make his time more enjoyable because prison is not about their fucking happiness, it's about separating and punishing those who do commit crimes and if possible help them learn not to.
This surgery doesn't compare to cancer treatments, heart surgeries, knee and hip replacements. Those cause people pain every waking moment, this person is uncomfortable? Boo fucking hoo, don't rob banks and maybe you might have gotten the treatment.
I find it hilarious how the article refers to him as female.
She she she she
use the correct pronoun

I find it fascinating how your brain is able to keep your body upright in the chair AND post bigoted comments at the same time
I would almost swear that two things so crucial to your everyday life happening simultaneously would cause it to shut down
I find it fascinating how your brain is able to keep your body upright in the chair AND post bigoted comments at the same time
I find your idea of how we can support everyone in the world's ideals fascinating.
Where would you get the money for giving an aesthetic operation to a convict with 40 years left behind bars from?
I find your idea of how we can support everyone in the world's ideals fascinating.
Yeah using the right pronoun is such a tiring thing, I feel so bad for you
Perhaps we should have a memorial for your bigotry that facepunch no longer accepts :(

Because that hand-crafted vagina is real, right?!
And means he will have a period. And be capable of bearing children.
Yeah, he's a woman now!

Gender isn't determined solely by sex
The pronoun you use to describe a person is derived from gender
Gender isn't determined by sex
The pronoun you use to describe a person is derived from gender

Gender is a range of characteristics used to distinguish between males and females, particularly in the cases of men and women and the masculine and feminine attributes assigned to them. Depending on the context, the discriminating characteristics vary from sex to social role to gender identity.
While this man's gender identity may be a woman, he is still (in essence) a man. He can never physically change sex, and therefore will always be either most or in part; a man.
While this man's gender identity may be a woman, he is still (in essence) a man.
She is of the male sex
When people talk about other people we refer to them by gender. You don't use male and female to refer to people in everyday non-scientific speech so why would you attribute the words him/her to refer to sex?

If I were out on the pull, I'd be looking to take a girl back to my flat, not something in between girl and guy.

Unfortunately for you, there is no gender binary so that chick you picked up last week may only have identified as being 92.7% female!
You're 7.3% gay.
see the thing here is that there's a more general problem which overshadows all this, which is the fact that PRISONERS GET FREE MEDICAL CARE WHILE THE GENERAL POPULATION DOESN'T
it's really hard to argue that this woman should get her treatment when everyone else doesn't, even though she and everyone else should
so, what I've learned here is that
-People stop being people once they're in jail
-You're only allowed to be called by your proper pronoun if you have a sex change surgery (all the more reason to support he- sorry, him I would think, but i digress)
-Emotional and psychological "pain" aren't really pain and this woma- sorry again, dude should just man up and deal with it
-Being transgendered is on the same level as things like being fat (which is impactful on ones self-concept, but calling it on-par with literally having the brain structure of the opposite sex, is belittling and offensive)
I've opened my eyes, my eyes are open.

Don't forget that being transgender is the same as being short.
That was a really good one!

You know at this point she's closer to a woman with a dick than to a man with boobs, so ya know. It's a she.
words cannot describe how hopeless this woman's situation is, and how hopeless the battle to get people to accept GID as an actual dangerous disorder seems
it's the fear of OMG SOCIALISM teaming up with the fear of OMG TRANNIES. shit be all fucked up and impossible to deal with. things look so dire.

of course, this is only in the US.

I think all healthcare should be free, it's just that this, at least to me. Falls under the same category as breast enlargments and other plastic surgery, it's not needed so the government shouldn't pay for it, it's something that should be paid with money from their own wallets.

That's because you don't understand GID

Oh yes because I forgot that sterile women aren't considered women either.
Bravo on being an ignorant bigot though, that shit takes effort.

Congratulations, I doubt transgendered women want to go back to your flat anyway. Why don't you find a bigoted woman to be with so you can feel comfortable.

Okay, so what you're saying here is that women who've gone through menopause aren't women anymore?

It doesn't, though
GID is a serious medical disorder. It is NOT like having small boobs, it is NOT like being short, it is NOT like having an asymmetrical face. It is something which eats away at people from the inside and causes deep depression. It makes you feel like you're living in the wrong body, all day, every day. A huge percentage of transpeople (as Zeke said) try to kill themselves compared to the general population. They face all kinds of bigotry and hate and stereotyping which adds to the risk of suicide.
I understand that you think it's just a cosmetic thing (I think lots of people, including myself years ago, assumed it was), but the fact is that it is not.

Could not agree more with this post, hits it right on the head from my experience.
I should say, nobody hates anyone for being misinformed. It's important to educate people about this stuff.
[editline]31st January 2012[/editline]
you'll only draw anyone's ire if you deny this stuff and/or are a bigot
