What the fuck sort of name is "Klu Klux Klan" anyways? It's literally the stupidest name you could come up with.

The KKK was formed as a social group in Tennessee in 1866. The name probably came from the Greek word kuklos, meaning "circle." Klan was an alliterative version of "clan," thus Ku Klux Klan suggested a circle, or band, of brothers.
Why wouldn't you just start a new organization? The name KKK will always be associated with racism and hate crimes. It's like calling yourselves Nazis and promoting peace and love with Jews, it's just backwards.
The Klu Klux Klan are now more accepting than most of my relatives.
I feel like this should be an episode of Futurama.

Notoriety, I guess.
if they're allowed into now then what the fuck is the purpose of the group? that's like letting jews into an anti semite group

or blacks into the kkk
Well the article says they'll allow people of Hispanic origin.
They have no issue with Hispanic's that are here legally.
However, they are against Hispanic's that are here illegally.
Illegal immigration has been the focus of most KKK groups for a while now, which is why they are allowing a larger variety of people to join.
Imagine black people, jews, and other minorities actually having the slightest bit of interest in joining the KKK.
If they're truly dropping all that old hate, there's very little reason for them to still use the KKK name, especially with what it's commonly associated with.

But they aren't. It'll still be there, and the old guard are going to have trouble burying it even in front of the new members they hope to get. Why? Because the reason they joined the Klan in the first place was that they were social rejects incapable of normal functioning.
But is it really the Klan any more?
Racism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism are so ingrained in the Ku Klux Klan that taking it away makes it almost unrecognisable.
The 'strong America' line makes me think that this is going to be a new post-9/11(/isis) Klan, where the focus isn't going to be on mistreating the 19th century minorities or commonly hated groups, but rather mistreating peoples who are (wrongly) considered to be threats to America: Muslims, etc. It doesn't seem like they're getting rid of bigotry, just shifting their marker of standards forwards a few decades.

I always thought they were named after the common cuckoo, a brood parasite.

Last part, sure.
But why would they want the people they hate to join their group, if the entire point of their group is hating those people? I honestly doubt they're that desperate for members.

I think they are.

To the new generation, the KKK is about as cool as colon cancer. The core of old members is finally dying of old age, and nobody new wants to join. I think they're really desperate.

Yeah but
Can you imagine a Neo-Nazi organization being so desperate for members they start letting fundamental Jews in?
I can't.

"Abarr's latest actions have enraged the United Klans of America, according to Bradley Jenkins, imperial wizard for the organization. He agrees with the Montana Human Rights Network that Abarr should not be using the KKK title for his new organization — but for completely different reasons.
"That man's going against everything the bylaws of the constitution of the KKK say," Jenkins said. "He's trying to hide behind the KKK to further his political career.""
[editline]11th November 2014[/editline]
"Abarr said his chapter of the KKK is a fraternal organization seeking members who want to fight against a "new world order" or a one-world government, which he is afraid the federal government is trying to achieve."
Here's a better source by the way.

i'd like to see an anti-semite group composed entirely of self-hating jews
i mean shit every jewish comedian tends to take the mickey out of themself and their culture before anyone else can even try, it could work
Did't the original KKK have nothing to do with racism to start with? I think It's supposed to have crept in over the decades.
Yeah but
Can you imagine a Neo-Nazi organization being so desperate for members they start letting fundamental Jews in?
I can't.
I can't either, even the more tolerant of Neo-Nazi groups that are oddly okay with the Black Panthers and other groups like that. Bottom line, their ideology is summed up by "the fourteen words" which are, "we must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." There's no budge on that, not when the Jews are seen as the underlying force that's dictating everything from the shadows and trying to kill/control the white man. So when your basic core belief is preservation of your race it's pretty crazy to allow in the "final boss" that is supposedly slowly bleeding your people to death.
That's probably why the KKK and Neo-Nazis haven't gotten along that much, their beliefs overlap but there has been a number of iterations of the KKK, while Neo-Nazis still follow the core tenements of Nazism. There may be some disagreement about certain things, like how great Adolf Hitler was, ranging from demi-god status to blaming him for losing the war, but for the most part one Neo-Nazi organization is compatible with all the others. Egos usually get in the way and are a cause of disputes, Neo-Nazis tend to be assertive and aggressive, but actual ideology is what unites them.
Did't the original KKK have nothing to do with racism to start with? I think It's supposed to have crept in over the decades.
They were racist, yeah, but their early activities weren't crazy violent shit. As you can expect with half a dozen ex-army vets, most of what they did was juvenile frat-boy shit that they probably did while unbelievably drunk. Things quickly escalated from there though, the Reconstruction was going on and yeah, people were mad about stuff.

"Jimbo, the Black Dragon uses its breath weapon and you fail the save, roll for damage."
"Piece of shit Nigg-Black Dragon."
"Well done brother Jimbo, that's the sort of self control we can all aspire to.
Also the dragon killed you."
I don't understand anything anymore
Did't the original KKK have nothing to do with racism to start with? I think It's supposed to have crept in over the decades.
No, it was formed by former Confederate soldiers after the war to resist the reforms from the North. Mainly the civil rights of blacks.
It grew pretty big at first, then petered out over time. Then in the 1960's it grew incredibly large in response to the civil rights movement. So large that it was hard to get into many southern local governments without being a KKK member. Since then, it has petered out once more. It's more or less maintaining its current size in response to illegal immigration.
I think I remember reading about a Black cop infiltrating a chapter because they never removed their hoods.
