MANILA (AFP) - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has launched a profanity-filled tirade against the European Union, in his latest riposte to international criticism of the rising death toll in his brutal crackdown on crime.Duterte punctuated his insults with a rude sign - raising his middle finger - after the European Parliament condemned "the current wave of extrajudicial executions and killings in the Philippines".
"I say to them, f*** you. You're doing it in atonement for your sins," he told local officials in his southern home city of Davao late Tuesday (Sept 20) in comments filmed by broadcaster ABS-CBN.
The 71-year-old leader had reacted along similar lines to earlier foreign criticism of his drug war, calling US President Barack Obama a "son of a w****" and cursing the United Nations.
Duterte won elections in a landslide in May after vowing to eradicate the illegal drug trade in six months, and promising that 100,000 criminals would be killed in the process.
Since he took office on June 30 about 3,000 people have been killed, about a third of them suspects shot dead by police and the rest murdered by unidentified attackers, according to police statistics.
Duterte said on Sunday he needed to extend his crime war for another six months because the drug problem was worse than he expected.
The EU parliament last week said it was concerned about the "extraordinarily high numbers killed during police operations ... in the context of an intensified anti-crime and anti-drug campaign".
Duterte must "put an end to the current wave of extrajudicial executions and killings ... (and) launch an immediate investigation into (them)", the EU resolution said.
Singling out France and Britain, Duterte said the parliament's members were "hypocrites" whose colonial-era ancestors killed "thousands" of Arabs and other peoples.
"They're taking the high ground to assuage their feelings of guilt. But who did I kill? Assuming it to be true, 1,700, who are they? Criminals. You call that genocide," he said.
"Now the EU has the gall to condemn me. So I repeat it. F*** you," he said, raising his middle finger.
wtf i love duterte now
wtf i love duterte now
You love someone who advocates murdering people without trial, meaning that there's no way of telling if those people are guilty? Nice.

I'm glad that the completely self-sufficient, shining "city-upon-a-hill" country that is the Philippines is cutting ties with the evil foreign powers that be. If only we could all live a real life version of The Purge, there would be no crime...

At least in the Purge crime is only legal once a year.

durerte is old, once he's out, there will be relative peace again in the philippines, but I hope he does not set a precedent of maniacs running for office preying on desperate people's feelings

Are there any relatively fair/unbiased approval ratings of him in office so far?
Yikes, at this point Duterte will practically have cussed out every nation in the world before the year ends :pudge:

I feel the criminals and those unjustly hurt by his actions will rise against the government when he's out in retaliation.
As i said in the last duterte news post. Dont be decieved by these news. These so called killngs are mostly not even from police. Most of them are done by the drug lords themselves cleaning up loose strings while they go in hiding. And duterte has other oroblems to attend to than these bullshit from other countries keep spouting out *herp derp human rights derp were offend* bullshit. If you dont live here you have no idea how drugs are provalent in the phillipines. Just a few weeks after he was seeted more than 60thousand users, pushers, dealers have already surrendered to the police and most of them in dire need of rehabilitation where is the news on that huh? Sure duterte is foul mouthed and his method crude, it is what is needed to clean up the phillipines. Unlike what you guys may think a lot of the filipinos support him for he is the only one to actually do something against the drug problem here. So other countries can stfu if they cant actually help with the drug problem here rather than just send some angry letters to duterte.

Oh OK so then the Germans can't criticize anything either because Nazis, that's perfect reasoning.

Didn't people vote him in because of policies like these?

I think the US have already shown time and again that waging a "war" on drugs doesn't achieve anything. Why do you think taking it up to absurd levels will be any different?
Maybe, I don't know, looking into the reasons why people end up taking drugs in the first place and solving the underlying issues (which coincidentally would reduce the demand for them and thus the profitability and influence of drug dealers) would be more efficient than basically making murder legal?

Let's just hope he doesn't spew shit at a country loaded with nukes and a terrible government.

This war on drugs is quite different. Much more thorough and less focused on petty drugs like Weed.
I think this might actually be successful.

The price is too high to justify any possible success

you must be the most intellectually honest person on the internets
The thing I'm most interested in, in a morbid curiosity-sort of way, is whether his campaign of murdering suspected criminals could possibly have any positive outcome eventually. I'm sure we can all agree that killing supposed evil-doers without trial as well as the continued encouragement of such is a deplorable act, but is there a chance that performing a "cleanse" like will actually liberate the country from its drug-related problems?
I'd wager no in practice, especially since without due process it's hard to know if the victims were actually contributing to the drug problems, but it's gonna be interesting to see what comes out of this.

...Or a few drugs lords will seize the opportunity to take out their competition and become even more powerful?
How do you expect making the whole country into a free-for-all will solve anything? Who's gonna take out the big fishes, untrained civilians? Against people who've been playing that game forever?
Literally all this does is increase the death rate among low-lever dealers, while allowing anyone to kill whoever they want by sprinkling a few grams of coke on the corpse after the deed.
Why do you expect total chaos to eventually result in a neat, drug and crime-free equilibrium?
He hates the EU, Obama, the pope, has a giant ego and insults everyone like a child.
This guy and Trump would get along like a house on fire.
The problem with extra-judicial killings is that someone always ends up realizing that accusing someone of being a "drug-pusher" is a great way to get rid of pretty much anyone you dont like

Even reaching inside the government, police, and millitary because no one gave a fuck its easy money. Heck they were even selling drugs and other shit inside one of the largest prison here in the phillipines that alone speaks for itself. There needs to be a change, and duterte may be the only one to open the eyes of the filipinos and the only one "crazy" enough to pull the phillipines out of the shithole it has become.

Until 1 gets offended by the other "speaking his mind" and war is declared.

Or on the flipside he could end up making it far worse. The Phillipines already have horribly overcrowded prisons with horrible standards of living. Throwing tens of thousands of people into them (a good portion of whom are likely clmpletely nonviolent offenders) is going to exacerbate the problem horrendously. Furthermore i very much doubt that most of those prisoners are gonna receive any service resembling rehab.

Their hypocrisy is irrelevant to your handling of the problem. Calling everyone else hypocrites for not helping is in essense a shitty attempt at pinning your problems on people who are completely irrelevant to the situation.
How exactly are the phillipines gonna build and staff the hundreds of rehab centers its gonna take to house all these people? What about those who aren't addicts? Are you gonna shove all of them in your prisons that are so overcrowded that they're arguably human rights violations? Furthermore the intense social stigma against drug users in the phillipines will likely mean that a good portion of ex-rehabbers are gonna go straight back to drugs.

I dont see where you are going with this.

Im not saying you should be doing nothing. I'm saying you dont have the infrastructure to do what you're currently doing without making the problem worse in the future.
