Maybe it's gonna be "so bad, that it's good" kinda movie. :v:
5 years ago people referencing memes and things was only something people that spent a LOT of time on the internet dared to do, but now that I'm in university things like advice animals and things that used to be pretty niche stuff are dropped all the time in conversation. It's really weird if you think about it.
I think it's due to the mobile device explosion in popularity. Once upon a time 'the internet' meant using a desktop computer or laptop. Not everyone used a computer on their own time, some did for fun, some for work or school, most people didn't bother. Then the iPhone showed up. EVERYONE has a mobile device these last few years...and those devices connect to the internet. Sort of the same thing happened with photography. Digital cameras? Most people said "meh" and passed on it. No selfies or Instagram. Mobile phones come along, with camera function, and next thing you know everyone is uploading pictures or video of one type or another.
I don't know if anyone else has brought up the point; but I feel like a Five Night's At Freddy's movie would have to be rated "R" to be good. But given that Scott is a devout Christian and that movie studios are afraid to put out "R" titles; I'm less then optimistic.
Generally speaking, a PG13 movie will make more than an R rated movie, so there will be a huge push to keep it PG13. It depends who they see as the main audience, college age or older? R rated. Junior high to High school? PG13.
We've had FNAF Game Trilogy, and so the time has come for FNAF Movies Trilogy... It will be matter of time till they make LEGO: Five Nights At Freddys The Video Game :v:
Might be good depending on who writes/directs, as always.
“We’re looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie,” said Grahame-Smith.
I doubt it if they are going for that stance though. If they don't stick to the whole isolation element, you can kiss the remote chance of being a good movie goooooodbye.
You could definitely make a good movie out of the concept but video game movies are absolute ass and they are going to play it safe and the movie will be shit It will probably be a family friendly comedy
-snip god fucking dammit I posted in the wrong thread-
On a related note to what I mentioned earlier, it is in fact possible to make a decent Video-Game based movie. Remember Prince of Persia? That actually turned out okay; partly because one of the writers on the movie actually worked on the POP games. Sure there were a lot of changes, but the changes made sense. If Scott's actually working on the film, it stands a chance of actually being good. I don't think that a 5N@F movie would have to be R rated, though. Remember the games themselves aren't gory or bloody; all of the violence is implied rather then explicitly shown. The closest things to that were the frames that flash briefly showing the corpse inside of Springtrap. Plus, family-friendly horror is possible. One episode of the Nostalgia Critic's most recent "Disneycember" series was on "The Watcher in the Woods" which was essentially a kid-friendly horror film that he actually did horror as good, if not better, then most modern horror movies.
I was never into this whole thing. I played the first game for maybe 10 minutes. But damn, the creator seems to be hell of a seller.
neither are half the fans really, they probably just became fans watching mark, pewdiepie, et al play it.
even good video games make bad movies pretty much every game made into a movie has been EXTREMELY SHITTY beyond belief, with EXTREMELY rare exceptions that can be counted on 1 hand. And that's mostly using really solid games too. FNAF is an average home-made game, arguably underaverage, at its best. this will flop, no questions asked
Without a doubt this is intended to be a franchise from the start. Paranormal Activity will probably be their template. Low budget series with a heavy reliance on backstory to provide an excuse for the static location and jump scares. The one issue I see fans of the game having is there needs to be more than the guard. There will almost certainly need to be both male and female lead roles. They won't want this to be a sausage fest. Playing the game is one thing, watching a movie with just the one protagonist won't do it.
I feel like it could work with just the guard. If they make it as just one night on the job and stay in the security room with the guard the whole time, it could be an interesting movie about his increasing terror and decaying mental state as the unstoppable murderous robots get ever closer to breaking in and the electricity keeps dwindling. That'd require a really good actor for the guard though.
with EXTREMELY rare exceptions that can be counted on 1 hand
You must have more than five fingers then. The Pokemon movies, the Kirby movie, the one Mortal Kombat movie, could go on a bit. The Resident Evil movies and Lara Croft movies were good.
You must have more than five fingers then. The Pokemon movies, the Kirby movie, the one Mortal Kombat movie, could go on a bit. The Resident Evil movies and Lara Croft movies were good.
the Resident evil movies were probably the worst I've seen in my life, they were INSANELY awful. Hell, they make the star wars prequals look good. Lara Croft was ok though, at least I think it was, but it was fairly underaverage. pokemon is fair game but from what I know it isn't a game made into a movie at all. Reading this it seems more like it created and was written along side a manga, which turned into a show, and thus film. So it already was dabbling with other forms of entertainment. Halo has this however [t]http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTQ3NDA3MjEyMF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzY4NjU1OQ@@._V1_SX640_SY720_.jpg[/t] which I should finish because the reviews praise it and the amount that I did watch was AMAZING. Halo, and Lara Croft worked because they have formats and expansive universes that let them settle into the format better. Pokemon works exceptionally well because it's a format that works with literally anything, and already has its fingers in everything. Halo has exactly the right action that works REALLY well in film without screwing the plotline up. Most games out there absolutely don't work for movies at all, and for many reasons. it just doesn't translate easily and most directors will screw it up. [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] I think the biggest reason video game movies never work is because nobody will understand what is happening unless they're a fan, and most of the time directors try and pull in more people than just the fans. If you have something simple like Pokemon with clear cut, "this is the bad guy, this is good guy" where you immediately can understand how it works "Main character is a pokemon trainer", "Trainers fight other trainer with colorful beasts", it can translate really well. Not only that, but video games are played through the eyes of a specific character. Pokemon works great, because the characters can be ANYONE, Lara Croft.... not so much. Worlds that aren't about individuals, but instead, people, or have people that could have a decent story told from their eyes, will definitely work well. Halo has plenty of interesting people, Grand Theft Auto COULD be a good example of what COULD work as GTA is just a parody of the American dream with simple, clear coated satirical characters. then there are films like resident evil. Where every character is hollow and boring, and massively cliche. No one has emotions at all. You can't relate to a single character, except maybe the shoehorned "le funny comic relief" and describing Alice's personality would be physically impossible because she basically has none. the RE films weren't even based off the games anyways.
And yet, nobody even knows this guy Scott Cawthon, ladies & gentleman, in the only photo to exist Famous indie developer right here.

I'm guessing it will be PG13. I'm fairly sure I remember reading that Scott intentionally avoided making the first game all that gorey. You get lots of nasty details, but the most gore you'll actually see in the first one is a cartoony representation of your eyes popping out the suit, and some teeth. That's literally as far as it goes. I dunno about the second and third game, but as far as the first is concerned, that's the case. Which is a shame, it'd be interesting to see the really visceral shit you get described to you, like the blood and mucus seeping out of the suits and shit.
Jeez, some really negative people in here. I'm not exactly confident this will be good, but with the Lego Movie director and Scott himself running the show I would say it has a chance of being good. Those who say "this will fail, no matter what, without a doubt" should reword that to not sound so negative. Give it a chance people.
It just really didn't have to be done.

Lord and Miller have nothing to do with this (Yet, we don't know who the director will end up being).
The feature adaptation will be produced by Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment as well as Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions.
can someone explain why the fanbase of this game is so fucking weird?
can someone explain why the fanbase of this game is so fucking weird?
Let's Play fans and/or furries. That's pretty much it Both of them kind of disregard the fact that the animatronics look like this: [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/j6J18r.png[/t]
can someone explain why the fanbase of this game is so fucking weird?
Tumblr, Furries and just general Sonic fan rejects. Other then that it's pretty chill.
no. unless you get charlie day as the guard, because i would love to see him flip shit out
Danny Devito as phone guy
Let's Play fans and/or furries. That's pretty much it Both of them kind of disregard the fact that the animatronics look like this: [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/j6J18r.png[/t]
Well, not all of 'em disregard that fact...
markiplier as sec. guard pewdiepie as freddy smike as foxy living tombstone as bonnie gametheory as chica and scott as spooky phone man its perfect
markaplier as the security guard doesnt sound that bad.
markaplier as the security guard doesnt sound that bad.
considering the fanbase, it wouldn't be an insane move for the producers to make.
If its anything below rated R, then it will be instantly trash. You can't make a movie about children deaths and robots tearing humans apart in a gruesome way PG-13 or under. You just can't.
This is either going to be great or terrible. What's next, hotline Miami the movie? Cities Skyline the movie? We already have an Angry Birds the movie coming soon. I bet if i write a story and make a video game that happens to become unexpectedly popular, in two years time, someone would want to make a feature film about it. And it will only take Scott two years to make this movie happen. Assuming someone got the script ready, the movie would be ready in 2018 or something.
there already is a hotline miami movie. it's called Apocalypse Now.

Why does the movie have to depict on-screen the robots tearing apart people? It's not really shown in the games to begin with. There is so much that can be done with horror without resorting to gore. No need to completely shut down the idea of a PG-13 horror movie.
I was just dreading the thought of this yesterday, and now I wake up to see this thread. Great. Just great.
