Just because you don't have to wear uniform doesn't mean there aren't limits.
There aren't. How could you even think about telling people what to wear?
There aren't. How could you even think about telling people what to wear?
I had to go through the rigmaroll of uniform, i full well understand why schools are annoyed with this.
Doesn't give them any right to decide what their students may not wear.
Jesus can't be dead if he was never alive in the first place! :buddy: Also note that the dudes with their pants bagging down in prison are the ones that get butt-fucked.
Look at all the creationists giving this man some boxes, just look at them! ha! :v:
First of all, most disappointing thread ever. Second of all, pants like that annoy the shit out of me. Third of all, stop arguing with eachother and get on topic.
Jesus can't be dead if he was never alive in the first place! :buddy: Also note that the dudes with their pants bagging down in prison are the ones that get butt-fucked.
I am sure that there are plenty of Jesuses dead and alive.
I am sexy dead jesus juice.
I really think that clothing is a huge part of your personality, and lots of teens try to find out who they are and what their personality is in the school ages. And yes, there is a life outside of school, but school is still a big part of life for a teen. It's where he/she meets the most people during the day. I don't really get why dresscodes aren't enough though. If it's that big of a problem, make them a bit stricter. Mandatory schoolwear is just demeaning, it's telling you that you're not unique. Even if it's not intended, that's the message that gets received.
Seeing girls cleavage is pretty much the only thing keeping me from dropping out of school. If uniforms got put into place in my school, I would be out so fast i would be nothin but a blur.
Well me being from the UK system and having been in schools that use Uniform codes, it does have a bunch of plus sides to it, sense of unity and pride when our schools gets into a fight with another school, know who to punch etc :v: Two biggest downsides to uniforms is in summer they're stinking hot (and if the school is really anal about the rules you can and will get in trouble if you so much as take your tie off) while in Winter they're pathetic and you practically freeze to death in them (and if the school is really anal about them you get in trouble if for example you put on a warmer pair of shoes).
Wait, but Jesus IS dead...
Doesn't give them any right to decide what their students may not wear.
You must think of a school as a buisness almost, if they give off a bad image no good pupils will want to go to that school and they'll have a shitty reputation, get bad pupils and it'll go downhill from there. I'm not supporting any draconian dress codes here i'm just saying that at the of the day i understand why school officials are thinking about this. [editline]09:31PM[/editline]
Wait, but Jesus IS dead...
It's meant to be ironic, those Hipsters love irony.
There aren't. How could you even think about telling people what to wear?
Well the school has the right. I think they should use that right responsibly, and not have stuff like uniforms, but they still have that right, especially if parents back it.
If you're willing to give up liberty for some safety you deserve neither. Franklin said it best, but I can't be assed to get his quote. Infact, using your logic, all freedom of expression should be banned. Singled out for your art or your artstyle, or choice of music or the videogames you like.
Uh, I didn't 'give up liberty' I was proud to wear that uniform. It is a school environment, where students should feel safe in order to create a better learning environment. People can wear what they like outside of school, because then nobody has to actually be in the vicinity of them if they don't want to be.

fitchburg is shit, this is unsurprising can't speak for worcester or springfield though
This reminds of when I was in highschool and they enforced wearing ID lanyards that students had to wear on them at all times. Of course, students rebelled and protested against the concept and made a huge stink over it. Was it really a big deal? No. This is the same case with wearing uniforms for school; It's not a big deal and there's really no valid argument against it.
It's damn restrictive and looks stupid, ontop of that teachers get anal about dress code "That button's not done up, your shirt's out" IT'S 42 FUCKING DEGREES MAN, YOU'RE WEARING BREEZY SHORTS AND A SINGLET, I'M WEARING A POLYESTER SHIRT AND AWKWARDLY SHORT AND TIGHT SHORTS [editline]08:11PM[/editline]
The only problem with your theory is that schools that use uniforms usually also have beard/hair guidelines, and that's something that you can't change as soon as you're out of school.
And this is a pain too. The school is basically a competition to see who can have the most ridiculous hair without getting a suspension
And this is a pain too. The school is basically a competition to see who can have the most ridiculous hair without getting a suspension
Unless your hair is large enough to touch other people or their desks, it shouldn't matter.
Jesus I don't understand why Americans buy such expensive clothing 100$ shoes? Spend that money on something more worth while like me <3
Personally if I had to wear a uniform I'd kill myself. The dress code in Iceland is very good, really there's only one "rule" regarding it, just wear clothes!
My uncle had a VAZ bike and a Lada Riva but he sold both off :frown:
Come to any East european country and you can buy them very cheap a Polish WSK 175cc for 80USD :) my east german MZ cost like 120 USD Used without papers :P
School uniforms = bad idea. Mild restrictions on clothing = better idea.

Winter's alright, just pants and a blazer with tie.
To be honest, what's the big fucking deal? My entire school life there were no uniforms whatsoever, but I think it wouldn't have been a bad idea if it were to be enforced. Most of you forget one thing, some aren't so fortunate that they can buy the clothes that they want to buy. Thank Hood that most of us don't have that problem, but if you do you can get easily frowned upon or worse an outcast. So who gives a flying fuck if you have to spend 8 to 10 hours max in a uniform, after that you can go home change clothes and wear whatever you want. Weekends you can dress the way you want. Also ''I want to express my individuality'' aka ''I want to show off my clothes'' how about growing some personality and express that?
It's damn restrictive and looks stupid, ontop of that teachers get anal about dress code "That button's not done up, your shirt's out"
I think the problem here, between you and I, is that our definition of "school uniform" is different. The kind of school uniform I used to wear was a casual polo/straight pants combination. Rather comfortable considering I was living in the Philippines at the time (put it this way: it's really hot). Yours I'm assuming goes all out with the blazer, tie and dress shirt and shoes?
Weekends you can dress the way you want.
I already replied to that by saying that school that require uniforms usually have hair/beard/tattoo regulations in place as well. And physical appearance is a PART of people's personalities.
To be honest, what's the big fucking deal? My entire school life there were no uniforms whatsoever, but I think it wouldn't have been a bad idea if it were to be enforced.
The big fucking deal is that it's none of any school's business what clothes their students wear (or, in my opinion, if they wear any at all).
And physical appearance is a PART of people's personalities.
You take away a person's ability to alter their appearance and you strip away part of their personality. That is one of the reasons militaries are anal about uniform. It takes away a person's sense of individuality so they can become soldiers. Schools should encourage individuality, not squash it.
