Enjoy the gaybow then. Gawd, there's no winning with you.
I'm not arguing about the laws themselves, I'm arguing about the morality of the American punishment machine. It's quite obviously not doing a good job, apparently his textbook "education" didn't teach him that.
Morality has no place in law. Any system of law that is influenced by morality is neither just nor righteous.
That's like law 101 shit right there.

I thought you said you were done five posts ago.
If you're done you can admit defeat and excuse yourself.
Otherwise, go ahead and post that explanation of the US judicial system.

Public Option (now dropped, by the by)
In Obama's speech on Wednesday, it sounded like he wanted to bring back the public option. He was saying that if affordable healthcare wasn't available in your area, then you could sign up for government provided healthcare. Kind of sounded like expanding Medicaid. Obama claimed that the public option would be self-sufficient, but so is the Post Office, Amtrack, and GM. :rolleye:

That sounds feasible. If the people that were using it could just pay their share in taxes it could work. The thing about private insurance companies is just that, they are companies. They are charging you a lot extra money so they can make a profit.
Also, didn't he declare somewhere along the lines in his presidential campaign that he was going to bring about universal healthcare? It seems like a lot of people were blindsided by this.

How can you argue the morality of the American Justice System when you don't even know how it works?
Cool story, bro.
Name one good law that was passed purely on the basis of morality.

Sounds good in theory, but when you look at the government's record of losing money on everything they do, I'm really sceptical.

We're done with the 2 page argument, if you want to forward more bullshit to me, do it through my PMs, so I can formally not give a damn.

.
I think that justice is when the criminal becomes truly remorseful about what he/she did, and can become a functioning member of society afterward. Punishment is petty bullshit if the 5 year sentence is nothing but revenge for a stupid decision or poor life choice on the criminal's part.
That whole mindset of yours is why there is still rape and murder in American prisons, because it's all part of the "justice experience"
dude you just need to shut the fuck up, you clearly have no clue what you're talking about.

What Obama says don't mean shit. He is the Executive, not the Legislative. He can want to bring it back all he wants but that still lands everyone at square one.
[editline]03:32AM[/editline]
GG FP for still not fucking getting how our government works.

He kept saying "my plan". So why does he bother making a plan if he can't do anything with it? I know the President can't make laws. But why does he go to Congress and try to tell them what to do and throw his plan at them? Ideally, he shoudn't have a plan.
Ideally, he shoudn't have a plan.
so the first complaint is he doesn't know what he's doing
now the complaint is he knows what he is doing but shouldn't
Here is his plan:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/health_care/plan/
Offers a public health insurance option to provide the uninsured and those who can’t find affordable coverage with a real choice. The President believes this option will promote competition, hold insurance companies accountable and assure affordable choices. It is completely voluntary. The President believes the public option must operate like any private insurance company – it must be self-sufficient and rely on the premiums it collects.
Seems like a waste of time to write all that up since it means nothing to Congress.
I'm not trying to argue with you, Lankist. I do understand Obama can't make laws. But why does he try?

It's part of every president's agenda to try to promote a law.
His plan means absolutely nothing. It's a weak-hearted suggestion, like a cop trying to tell his governor that he wants a law changed. In the end that isn't the cop's place, and he can suggest anything he wants. That doesn't mean it has fuck all of an effect on shit.
[editline]04:06AM[/editline]
Congress gets the final say in all new legislation. The President's job is to enforce it, even if he doesn't like it.
[editline]04:08AM[/editline]
In my personal opinion Obama is still thinking like a senator and not like a President.
I don't know why Presidential candidates state what they believe or support. Because like you said, it doesn't matter what they think because they can't make laws.
Kind of like these:
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/
They all look like things Congress should be doing to me.
[editline]03:32AM[/editline]
Come to think of it, the Founding Fathers wouldn't have wanted the President to have an agenda.
There are a lot of things the President's platform can accomplish.
Economic solutions, crackdowns on established crimes, reform on existing criminal protocol, varied involvement in tax expenditures.
But when it comes to actual changes, that power lies in Congress and the Court. Congress being the creation of the new, the Court being the destruction of the old.
And it's a very very sad thing when we as a people don't recognize the fact that it is the citizenry and the citizenry alone that can prompt the overturn of corrupt laws. The courts have the power to overturn laws but only if the case is brought to them. Brown v. Board of Education wasn't intra-government change, it was citizens using their rightful power to fight corruption.
I love the blonde behind obama
Just because Obama was the one being yelled at, the Senator's the supposed child? I bet if a democratic senator said that to Bush everyone would do a victory cheer.
I hate to admit it, but this is really true.
I didn't like the speack at all because he was very disingenuous but still he interupted the president. But he did apologize as he called the white house but now is being told to apologize again to the house..
