Willing to wager money that they're going to shut down the sewage plant for that area. What class of people does the sewage plant service?
says in the article it services poor neighborhoods
they'd probably burn the favelas to the ground if it wouldn't make a big mess of ash they'd have to clean up
They should stop hosting the Olympics in so many different places and just have a single clean, peaceful, and stable location for it. If it was like that, we could avoid situations like this (and natives won't get angry).

Just host it in Germany or the US or something with permanent, state of the art facilities, and have all of the countries pitch in money for the privilege to compete. It's baffling to me that we feel the need to move it around every time.
says in the article it services poor neighborhoods
I thought the article said that the sewage lake is near poor neighboorhoods. [editline]4[/editline]
Raw sewage still flows from Rio's poor neighborhoods right into the water.
Misread, RIP. Wouldn't be surprised if they shut the sewage plant down, causing the sewage to be disabled for that poor neighborhood.

Wow. Just wow. Looks like they beat Sochi.
That might be a more practical solution but it completely disregards the real purpose of the Olympics in the modern era.
I was under the impression the purpose of the Olympics was so the countries of the world had an opportunity to come together and compete. Why does it need to be in a different place each time to do that?
Would not be surprised in the slightest if another corpse washed up right where there's an event going on.
Would not be surprised in the slightest if another corpse washed up right where there's an event going on.
That would suggest that somebody is doing it with the express purpose of causing Olympic controversy, but the alternative of corpses just randomly washing up on shore regularly is almost scarier.
but the moneyyyy
sunken cost is a hell of a drug

I mean socio-economics might not be the best, but that is where the Olympics originated at (unless I'm thinking of Italy).

Reading this I'm almost glad our rowers got disqualified from the competition.
At this rate the Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympics game better have mutilated corpses, famine, wealth disparity, sewage-filled waters and the Zika virus, or it's just not an accurate depiction whatsoever.
See? It's already a shitstorm.
Best part is, we already knew this would happen. Think this is a bit late. No offence to the OP or anything, just stating that we already knew there was stuff like that in their waters, and that the athletes were probably gonna compete in it, but its amazing that they are still going forward with the idea. I guess they have no other choice aswell. I bet Rio would make a huge fuss if the Olympic comitee suddenly changed place. It isn't Rio without the forced evictions and rioting because of it.
I bet Rio would make a huge fuss if the Olympic comitee suddenly changed place.
Who cares? Certain standards should be upheld. What would their argument be?
Who cares? Certain standards should be upheld. What would their argument be?
Wasting a lot of cash and then people saying "lol its not gonna be here anymore" Well, that would be a good lesson for them, but it wouldn't solve anything.
Which is worse: Rio's waters or the Ganges in India?
The Ganges in India but not by much.
This is going to be an even bigger shitstorm than the 1972 Munich Olympics.
