are you talking about windows or something
Windows 9 is going to be introduced in April, I think.

We're probably gonna get Windows 8.1.1 or whatever in April, I don't think Microsoft will introduce an entirely new OS just yet.
I have a bad feeling that "currently being sold" is a euphemism for "your desktop is a few years old? better go buy one of those shiny new ones that are currently being sold"
No it means no new shader model or hardware changes from dx11/10. Its the great thing about DX, unless Microsoft make major changes then there needs to be no hardware changes so you would have known about any changes a long time ago.
just looks like a big performance update, it doesn't seem to add any major features. that's probably why it's able to run on existing GPUs.
It does sound like they have just done some major improvements on the software side. The fact it works on existing hardware is probably related to the xbox one as well. What's the point of releasing an amazing update to your graphics API if you cannot use it on your premier graphics product?

I really can't tell what this is supposed to mean.
DX12 already lost to OpenGL.
It did? When?
It did? When?
Since OpenGL supported all platforms, has better performance than DirectX, etc etc
Nvidia, AMD and Intel all vouched for OpenGL at GDC too.
That's AMD even though they have Mantle, they obviously want an open standard for their hardware.
Microsoft's shitty DX9/DX10 comparison
I hope you realise that what's shown in the DirectX 10 image was perfectly capable with DX9 at the time. As usual Microsoft's lies to get everyone to upgrade. Reminds me of when they did the comparison showing DX9 as being Halo 1, and DX10 as some really high graphical game, when the latter also supported DX9 and the graphics looked almost the same as it did in DX10.

This is relevant, how?
We're already starting to hit the ceiling of what DX can do for games, I'm pretty sure by the next console cycle, DX won't even be a thing anymore.
I'd be surprised if DX was extended with any meaningful uses that aren't already incorporated now with OpenGL 4 and beyond. The biggest thing about DX11 was tessellation. Now that OpenGL can do that just fine with occlusion rendering, what's DX12 going to offer?
DX10 was simply good looking, no BS overly taxing filters making volumetric lighting look like crap, still does in almost all games today, but that was 2006 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPi0AhQgrDs
Still the best looking video I've seen to date, and now microsoft is getting around to cleaning up their mess on the code side with API's among other things that typically get fixed on the games developer side.
Seriously 10 years behind with consoles, and by focusing on consoles, we've become nearly 10 years behind with the PC market as well. The industry has been sitting on it's ass for like 8 years now.
The PS4 is what the PS3 should've been, and the Xbox, well pfsshhh microsoft you had your chance will all that money to end it and you didn't. Just put a damn GTX Titan or a 780 in a damn console with a lot of RAM and an I7 and stop messing around with people and their wallets already god damn. There's no reason to be spending 6 years at a time "optimizing" for crappy game boxes anymore, it's just insulting now.
The worst part is people, we haven't even seen any video feed of DX12 after they "announced" it. Stupid as hell.... I was really hoping for something significant.

Things not mentioned by these screenshots: Enabling DX10 makes the game unstable as fuck, removes most of the land terrains(??) and makes a bad performing game even worse.
Honestly FSX was a terrible thing for Microsoft to push alongside DX10.
Oh and FSX can look like the DX10 screenshot with DX9 and a few settings tweaks..
