I doubt it's that big. A few gb at most. I mean, it's just text. Depending on sony's database layout, he could've downloaded only the private info, not their game stat info and stuff.
That's my point, if someone is determined enough, they can hack into anything.
You all are getting angry at Sony but in truth if one person let along a group of people are extremely determined, they will get at what they want.
You're wrong, getting the data is one thing, making use of it is another, for example an AES256 encryption would take the most powerful PCs on the planet longer than the current age of the universe to go through all the combinations, Sony fucked up.
Christ on a trike.
Also, why are you guys rating this winner? I don't get it.
Why take a stab at Sony by hurting their customers?
Haven't you seen how Sony's shares have fallen through the fucking floor?
Oh well, time for PS4

It was also be extremely inefficient to gain access to the information when the user is trying to make purchases.
Oh well, time for PS4
Yeah as if anyone's ever going to trust sony with their personal info again.
A questionable decision but still, PSN being compromised is, at its core, not Sony's fault.
Storing credit card info in plain text is their fault.
Storing credit card info in plain text is their fault.
How do you know it was plain text?
Thank god I've only used prepaid cards on to buy a couple of things on the network. Although its still a terrible thing to happen, both to Sony and the users who did nothing wrong.
How do you know it was plain text?
That's my fucking point, we're all speculating on no information except that all our personal data was nabbed.
How do you know it was plain text?
Because facepunch likes to assume everything with no background information.
[editline]26th April 2011[/editline]
Have you seen the video game forums? Its pretty much we get one screenshot of a game and half the people complain that its going to suck.
It was also be extremely inefficient to gain access to the information when the user is trying to make purchases.
I think people would rather wait a minute and a half than risk their credit cards.
Because facepunch likes to assume everything with no background information.
What I've been saying all along isn't my own, but from what I've been told by COSI guys that I hang out with. They are hardcore programmers, run their own personal servers and everything.
So, I might not know what I'm talking about, but these guys do.

It would be more like a half an hour. :colbert:
And yeah people would complain, people are impatient. You might understand but they do not.
Oh no, found out my brother has been using his card on the network for quite some time now. I can't get in contact with him until he charges his phone, and he's 2 states away at the moment :geno:
Sony got raped, Ps3 fans are crying.
MASTER PC RACE.
Haven't you seen how Sony's shares have fallen through the fucking floor?
Haven't you seen how many people have had their credit cards/bank accounts charged for shit they didn't buy?
Haven't you seen how many people have had their credit cards/bank accounts charged for shit they didn't buy?
One?
One?
I'm getting other friends I know on PSN saying they've gotten multiple charges as well.
How do you know it was plain text?
Sony would tell us in an attempt to calm everyone down if it was encrypted
How do you know it was plain text?
When the system send everything in plain text and receives things in plain text it is hard to believe they are even using encryption
Haven't you seen how many people have had their credit cards/bank accounts charged for shit they didn't buy?
But uh... that's the point. Something like that has the potential to drive the value of the company into the dirt and this person knows that. It's the objective of the exercise.

The end doesn't always justify the means.

So you're posts are hearsay too? And I'm a communications engineer in my second year of training by the way.
It would be more like a half an hour. :colbert:

If they chose a reasonable encryption method it would take a couple of minutes tops unless under heavy congestion.
The end doesn't always justify the means.
Congratulations, you put meaning into my words. You put the meaning of me advocating it to a simple explanation of what's happening. Good job.
If they did it properly, it would be years
Per account
The end doesn't always justify the means.
Do you fucking think I am going to fucking wait around until some faggot uses my number for whatever the fuck they want?
Sony is at complete fault and they know it. We all know it. Why do you not understand this?
It is their responsibility to keep shit like this locked up on their servers. We expect them to keep it safe. When shit like this happens and when a company takes forever to say yea it did happen, NOTHING will stop them from being thrown into a fucking crater of their former selves.
The end doesn't always justify the means.
It's not that much of an problem to cancel a card and get the charges refunded, but it's still going to be annoying and a pain in the ass.

You're perfectly fine with people losing money because some twat felt like fucking Sony and its customers over.
Congratulations, new levels of stupid have been reached in this thread, I hope you're proud of yourself.
