Damn I just bought a PS3 too, luckily I haven't bought anything in the PSN store yet.
so this fat kid in my school keeps saying it was "anonymous" and that he knows people who are "in" anonymous.
If he "knows" some people who are in anonymous the they aren't anonymous anymore.
Ugh, I was sort of fine when they decided to take down PSN, but now I think they are just trying to hit the community more than anything.
Oh, and Sony's wallet.
i hope they publicly release all the CCs, just to piss sony off more.
Yes because I want everyone in the world to be able to run up charges on my hard-earned money. I hate what Sony has been doing lately, but this doesn't even get back at Sony. It just shafts all the regular people.
Would you like it if some hacker got into the Bank and released all your CC info just because the Bank was kind-of a dick and deserved it?
i hope they publicly release all the CCs, just to piss sony off more.
yeah, the hacker should fuck up the community even further! that'll show sony! :downs:
question: why the FUCK were they FUCKING storing our FUCKING private info on UNSECURE fucking server.
oh right, because they like getting sued. right.
Hey guess what.
It wasn't unsecure.
But with all the bullshit, I'm guessing the dudes got past that as well or something.
yeah, the hacker should fuck up the community even further! that'll show sony! :downs:
Actually, yes. If that information is made public, the backlash will undeniably hit Sony, it always does. They can keep this relatively hidden for the time being unlike when it happens to other businesses who are immediately publicized and criticized for it. At the same time, this information is normally not made public, but kept to a few small groups for their own personal use. If the information is made public, then Sony will ultimately be the ones punished for failing for protect their users. That isn't to say the ones who gathered the information won't be prosecuted if possible, but Sony will bear all of the punishment until someone who can bear some of it is found.
The good news is, I didn't even put in a credit card for my account, and the account itself was basically only there for playing Killzone, Metal Gear Solid, and Little Big Planet online, and getting the occasional free DLC that came out. I rarely used my PS3 anyway.
See, THIS folks is why I don't trust even huge corporations with my credit card info.
Valve is a huge corporation.

Has anyone even received an email with mention about PSN being down or the security breach or is it just me without one? I figured I would have had one when it first occured
Has anyone even received an email with mention about PSN being down or the security breach or is it just me without one? I figured I would have had one when it first occured
Nope. The only official mention is on their blog.
Sony is now claiming they only just found out about the data being stolen and never knew 'all along':
There’s a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers’ data being compromised. We learned there was an intrusion April 19th and subsequently shut the services down. We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon.
Well, in their defense, you never know if something digital gets stolen, because it doesn't really get stolen, it gets copied. Perhaps they didn't know to which extent the hacker(s) intruded and were simply hoping for the best, which is still retarded, but understandable for a company who doesn't want to tell their customers some unknown jackass might have their credit card information.
i hope they publicly release all the CCs, just to piss sony off more.
yeah i really hope thousands of people lose money to make a company look bad :downs: :downs:
Hahahaha, I knew this was going to happen... Watch as no-one manages to sue Sony too.
i hope they publicly release all the CCs, just to piss sony off more.
You are a dick.
Shoulda binded PSN with PayPal.

Valve has 260 employees.
Sony has 167,900 employees.
]Valve isn't even a thousandth the size of Sony.
It doesn't matter what size they are if their security sucks it sucks.
I haven't used my PS3 in years except for movies and have completely forgotten if I actually used a credit card for anything relating to PSN.
I don't really get why some people are blaming/badmouthing Sony for this. They did their best to create a foolproof system, and eventually somebody broke in. They're doing their best to fix it. I'm no huge Sony fan, but I have nothing against them. Give them a break.

Except that in multiple ways they provoked the knowledgeable tech savy folk who actually enjoy tinkering with the shit they buy by saying "Nope.avi"

except whoever did this attacked the consumers more than sony
and to say they provoked this attack is pure garbage. sure, it's lame of sony to be so militant about anti-ps3 modding.
does that warrent an attack on them? for restricting what you can do with their product? does that also warrant an attack on all their customers?
don't be stupid

Seriously the people saying, "Well you shouldn't have removed Other OS" thing is stupid. I have yet to meet a single person who actually LEGITIMATELY used the OtherOS function for Homebrew.

I was stating that it drew more attention to PSN than ever, that's all.

Of Homebrew? What?
I used the OtherOS quite frequently as a Media PC type setup and it was very convenient.

Okay that's one person.
Lets compare to the 50 people I know that used OtherOS for hacks.
