In no way am I justifying their actions, what they did was horrible and so on. Taken seriously? Lets look at the group of people who've done this; "issues 40 arrest warrants for members of Anonymous in America and that some members of the hactivist group were already arrested in the UK." Yeah, I don't think anyone in that group is there to be taken seriously, they're just trying to prove a point; what's that point? Don't fuck with them, and they made their point very clear.
Sony weren't fucking with them, they were defending their product like any company. "Anon" just decided to start fucking shit up as they felt it was unfair for a company to defend what they have built. I'm not sympathizing with either side, but right now, Sony are in better standing than the people against them, at least Sony kept it slightly more civil.
Fuck, I bought shit over PSN before.
I honestly think that Sony should be punished for taking so long to make their customers aware of the break-in. That's unacceptable, especially for such a large company.
http://us.playstation.com/support/useragreements/termsserviceagreemt/ I wonder if there is anything in there about if you can sue if you account info is stolen on Sony's watch.
Uh oh, I need to tell my dad fast, I don't think I deleted his credit card information.
Also, sort of related (this could get ugly very quickly)
Good thing I have completely unique passwords for any sort of service that deals with money or has any real importance
FUCKKKKK!!!!!
No games, No brains
Our debit card is now in the hands of these hackers. Just god damn fantastic.
Well I'm glad I didn't get a Playstation 3 now. I have also decided to never get one now too.
Our debit card is now in the hands of these hackers. Just god damn fantastic.
Debit cards are the worse online, at least with credit cards you never actually have that money and can easily claim it back if it was wrongfully taken, but with debit cards, that is YOUR money gone
If their security was poor, then they probably had a reason to not allow people to modify the software in the PS3.
My guess is they saw "fucking_everyone.txt - 1TB" and cut-and-pasted to see what was inside.
I feel sorry for the person(s) who did it if Sony catch them, cause if Sony do, the person(s) is going to be fucked harder than a 1 dollar street whore.
Are you ill or just a fucking idiot, people could go through a great deal of stress due to the loss of this info.
It's never felt better to be a PC/360 person. It sucks that Sony's security was this shitty though.

They're a gigantic corporation with billions of dollars, and they're trying to take all of some kids money for what? For getting a code they didn't encrypt enough? It's just messed up when that kind of stuff happens, and now this kid has to talk to a lawyer every god damn day, and sony took his entire donation fund which is not only just PS3 but mostly iphone jailbreaking and such. I really don't see why nobody else finds what sony did was fucked up. I really don't, and I understand that it sucks for the users, but at the same time they aren't and can't do anything with the information because that makes it easier for the police to trace it back to them. This sucks for sony, but I've always thought sony wasn't a very good company, they're greedy, but then again what big company isn't. Step out of your box of ideas and at least to TRY to see through my point of view, and see some legitimacy in my argument, I get your side of what you're saying and i'm not saying you're wrong at all, I'm just showing you a different perspective. (edited to make the last sentence seem less derogatory, I'm really not trying to offend you, just letting you in on a different perspective.)
Even if the PS3 becomes useless - I'm not getting rid of it. Whenever I get rid of a working console I feel bad and want it back even if I never use it. Happened with my GameBoy Pocket. Sony did dominate the market for a long time in console gaming, but considering that Microsoft released their cheaper, mostly just as good option, they've been losing ground. This isn't going to help and I wouldn't be surprised to see Sony stop making consoles. Which is a shame, I've had Playstation since the old grey bricks of PS1s.
Are you ill or just a fucking idiot, people could go through a great deal of stress due to the loss of this info.
He was referring to the hacker who stole the info. Not the customers.
This is bad. With this my Sony fanboy card is now void. I can't just fucking play games? I am now subject to identity theft? WHAT THE FLYING FUCK SONY!
If their security was poor, then they probably had a reason to not allow people to modify the software in the PS3.
It's funny because that didn't happen until Sony removed that ability.
I bought a PS3 yesterday. I recall making an account on my friend's, but never doing anything with it. I guess i'm lucky that i'll be getting into this shit after it's resolved. It just better not take fucking two weeks.

oh. shit. better keep a track of the credit card statements
Of course, but back to my point in the first place, sony shouldn't have dug through thousands of copywrite laws to fuck with some kid.
And neither should Failoverflow and Geohot have really been digging through thousands of lines of code to fuck with Sony. Your point?
It's just messed up when that kind of stuff happens, and now this kid has to talk to a lawyer every god damn day, and sony took his entire donation fund which is not only just PS3 but mostly iphone jailbreaking and such.
Holy shit, you are dumb. He set up a donation fund AFTER Sony sued him!
I really don't see why nobody else finds what sony did was fucked up.
How about Sony defending their property? Granted, suing may have been a bit excessive but still, they should be allowed to defend their shit. This sucks for sony, but I've always thought sony wasn't a very good company, they're greedy, but then again what big company isn't. Are you seriously that stupid or just trying?
And here I was considering buying a PS3 for Gran Turismo 5, but every time I'm on the verge on buying it, Sony either fucks up or gets fucked up. Guess I'll just stick with my aged PC then. I aint paying a monthly fee to play online (Looking at you Xbox live)
Hopefully that allows a new company (Samsung perhaps?) to step in?
It would really depend on who has been developing and has developed games and gaming systems. I'd be hesitant to try a new system - one of the reasons I never got an XBox, I'm completely unfamiliar with them - unless it had aspects similar to those of Playstation.
Your point? Holy shit, you are dumb. Are you seriously that stupid or just trying?
You're out to be an asshole, you call me stupid, but I really hope you realize your inability to see through someone else's point of view makes you the idiot. This is an internet forum, take shit less seriously.
