• Eighty children get chickenpox at Brunswick North West Primary, a school that calls for 'tolerance'
Why so late to the party?
No-one around me ever caught it when I was a kid so I was never really exposed to it. Ended up catching it when it struck an elementary school I had a co-op session in during my senior year.
This is a really stupid post.
Which shows reality in a brutal honest way. Getting chickenpox as a kid and dying is like getting a flu when being a healthy adult and dying.
Only retarded thing is not getting chickenpox as a child, because that will fuck you up badly or kill you as an adult. That's why kids should get chickenpox and deal with it, it's no more unpleasant than usual when you get sick or get the flu. And it helps the immune-system later in life.
It's my understanding though that once you get chickenpox, it can later return as Shingles later on in life. I don't know if this is the case with the vaccine but I could see there being a possibility. [editline]10th December 2015[/editline]
I just looked it up since I was wondering about the likelihood to get it. Apparently lifetime incidence is around 20%, but seemingly it's preventable even after initial infection via a vaccine (if I didn't misread that). Seems to be fairly treatable too, so it's unlikely to reoccur and won't hurt for over a month for 82% of patients.
Many of my family members have gotten Shingles. It's treatable and eventually goes away but it's immensely painful and tends to last a while. There really isn't much that can be done though if chickenpox itself is practically unavoidable and the vaccine can cause Shingles as well.
Apparently I had a competent doctor cause I got vaccinated for it somewhere in the early 90s.
As did I, and I live in Alabama. The fuck, do you people live in the hills?
I got the vaccine for Chicken Pox when I was 4 and still got it plus spreading it to my sister
Did you ever get the booster shot? My sister only had the first shot, but ended up getting it when she was older. After that my parents had me get the booster shot and so I'm the only one in my family who's never had chickenpox.
As did I, and I live in Alabama. The fuck, do you people live in the hills?
Yep. I lived in rural northern michigan and I got it sometime before '97, don't know exactly when, just that it was before my brother was born.
As did I, and I live in Alabama. The fuck, do you people live in the hills?
I don't even remember what vaccines I got. I was like six years old. I just remember a bunch of assholes shoving needles in me and wanting them to go away.

Would explain why as a 22 year old man, needles make me cringe.
