• Human head transplant surgery may be possible

Where would the donor body come from? If someone died then the body is likely pretty much unusable.
Where would the donor body come from? Imagine being a lean 24 year old male and being transplanted into a slightly tubby 39 year old woman. I'd rather say goodbye to life than goodbye to my relationships, them extra years etc. and you know... just this whole clinging onto life no matter what ridiculous position I'll be forcing myself to live by. Sometimes it is just logical to die, not that it's a preferable choice we all want to be in. There are probably too many complications anyway.
Immediately thought of this.
Well I like my body the way it is....thanks though, Science! Although, if I'm beheaded, get me a better body that doesn't have allergies or asthma.
the people laughed at me when i told them i was going to become a robot what fools they are now
bueahehehaeh
Wonder how this would react to certain life threatening conditions, though? Like Muscular Dystrophy and the like. I think a lot more research needs to go into this before it's actually possible, but just finding out that it's a plausible surgery makes it awesome.
I'm reminded of a character in Book of the New Sun, who had undergone a body transplant to prolong his life. They'd kinda stuck his head onto a host body, but not removed the previous head, so they didn't need to mess around with hooking up the body's vital organs to a new brain, they could just let the host's brain do it all. Pretty cool concept, if you ask me.

Reminded me of this movie, which had the longest death scene in cinema history. And it's incredibly cheesy all throughout. The full movie's floating around on youtube if you really have an hour or more to waste. I guess it kinda addresses some of the issues you guys are talking about in this thread, but in the form of a really cheesy horror flick.
God dammit I had a nightmare about this shit last night and now it has come back to get me in reality.
better than mine. I had a dream that I zoomed out of the universe and saw Earth surrounded by Black Holes. Woke up, turns out there's possibly 35 black holes in the andromeda galaxy, welp.

Terrifying.
at some point multi-billonares are going to start turning to death-row inmates for new bodies, they'll just find ones with similar builds, then through cosmetic surgery make it look completely identical and voila we the havenots will be crushed under an imortal caste of billionares
thats funny because i started watching dark matters last night and there was a episode very similar to this. It was about ape head transplants and they were hoping to apply it to humans. they easily transplanted ape heads onto another body but the main problem is that they didn't figure out how to re-attach the spinal cord thus the moment their head is transplanted they were paralyzed from the waist down and couldn't control any organs automatically. the guy behind the ape head transplant.
This'd just be completely fucked. Seeing someone you've known all your life, for example, with a different body would just fuck with your mind so much
Not necessarily, such thoughts will be rid of in little time at all if this procedure were to become common place. Society would adapt to this and mindsets would change and adapt to new technology, as it already does. Which is sad, because once that happens no one will be truly amazed by what they have, as we see right now, no one is truly amazed by what we have, no one really knows how good we have it now.
I can finally be a girl.
*snip snip* A man could even become pregnant if his head and brain is attached to a woman's body, although I wonder what possible problems could arise. Would a male brain be able to drive a woman? Also, I wonder if this could open the way for a full prosthetic body using the human head. Ghost in the shell here we come!
As far as my argument that transsexuals are not actually the gender they identify as goes, I can't fault that they could truly become the gender of their choice after such an operation. A man could even become pregnant if his head and brain is attached to a woman's body, although I wonder what possible problems could arise. Would a male brain be able to drive a woman?
This is where the thread turns into 20 pages of sex vs. gender, transgender issues and all that luggage of arguments. Why did you feel the need to open that can of worms
it can finally happen
So if you have a host body and you make a baby is it still your baby or what
nature vs nurture go
i'm honestly really wondering about this what effect would a male brain have if it was controlling a female body, or vice-versa? what would the estrogen do? would facial hair still grow as much? i am question
I was also wondering weather you can even go into labour? Doesn't the baby send stress signals to the brain to let the mother know it's time? A male brain ( I imagine ) wouldn't be able to interpret those signals.

Quick we need 2 samurais with ultra sharp blades and 1 really, really good surgeon.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a twilight zone episode about this.
I know my post is a tad late but that video with the severed dog head licking its face and flicking it's ears really scared me, like that is some creepy ass shit right there. I can't imagine how it would feel to be just a head bound to a machine that only exists to stop me from dying and thus continuing my misery until I slowly whither and die. Obviously I wouldn't feel anything because I'd probably be mostly brain dead but the thought still counts. Ever since having my tumor removed anything to do with head surgery causes me to freak out and panic, I think I may have developed a phobia here.
Imagine the black market that could form from this.
An expansion of the slave market that exists now?

I think it was just the dog's natural physical reactions to stimuli. I haven't seen the video in a long time, so correct me if I'm wrong here.
