Republicans will be saying climate change is fake until their florida vacation homes start to flood. They operate under a "If I dont personally experience it its fake" mindset

Werent you a single issue gun voter? I love guns too dont get me wrong, but I dont think guns will be all too useful against climate change.
You cant have an armed insurrection against the tyranny pf environmental collapse
The thing is - you already held the opinion, so as you stated, their attacks on your ideas aren't needed because you've already changed. Political opinions also tend to be a lot more deeply rooted and personal than what I imagine that example would have been.
Currently the biggest problem the democrats are facing is that Trump has an extremely enthusiastic and supportive base that refuses to budge. They have already been called every insult in the book since 2015. The "deplorables" comment from Hillary certainly didn't help either. Virtually every credible book on persuasion says to do everything but directly attack somebody's views, because that just causes them to put up defensive barriers and get further entrenched in their own opinions. Just look at how politicians with relatively bipartisan appeal tend to be ones who campaign on positivity, and how salesmen and interrogation agents try to act like your best friend before getting what they want from you.
You can't argue with people who
1) know they're right like they know the sky is blue
2) don't actually understand the science that people explain to them so
3) they think science is a conspiracy
4) are outright hostile to the concept of "new" or "change"
I'm with you in spirit but honestly, maybe try talking to a trump supporter and doing what you say.
They'll laugh and call you a passive libcuck and they'll ignore you.

People mostly missed the point where I have mentioned that I voted majority Democrat-NPL and Libertarian here in North Dakota for a variety of reasons. You cannot build a house without setting foundations. Likewise you cannot expect a "blue wave" when you cannot secure mindshare on the county/city level.

Because a lot like children they made a mistake and they're not gonna learn a goddamn thing from it or get any better if people just lay on the scorn and derision rather than offering an alternative way forward and a way to avoid the same mistakes in the future
Being a dick about it basically just reinforces notion that the right is all they have because the left are elitist pricks
Did you guys miss that part during the primaries where Sanders was doing absurdly well for a Democrat in the rust belt which was largely attributed by the part where he was wanting people to pull together as Americans and listening to people and treating their concerns, complains, and grievances as actual valid things worth listening to
Did you guys miss the part where Hillary basically skipped the rust belt to go rub elbows with some bigwigs and subsequently lost all those potential blue voters in the process
Like do you not see some correlation there with not being a dick and things being better or what
Did you miss the part where people have been claiming Trump would do all the shit he's been doing since day one? Because I sure the fuck didn't. I also didn't miss the part where on more than one occasion a Trump supporter later went on to ask people why they didn't tell him all this earlier (despite the fact they were. Constantly.) so he could have voted less like an idiot.
There's no real reason to treat a lot of them with anything short of derision because it's going to make no difference for many of them. They're going to proceed to make the same retarded mistakes no matter what anyone tells them nor no matter how nice they are about it. They are, however, people who tend to give into peer pressure. If enough people around them treat them like a joke because of their stupid choices then they're more likely to avoid those mistakes in the future just to save face even if they haven't learnt their lesson.
