Russia will begin Moon colonization in 2030 - draft space program

A Moon referendum was needed anyway.
I bet the Moon wants to secede from Nothing and join Russia
Oh, a draft as in a plan, I thought they were conscripting astronauts from the title :v:
Why did I read "colorization"?
In 2030, Russia colonizes the moon.
In 2031, they threaten the destruction of planet Earth unless they're given one hundred billion dollars.
[editline]Yes[/editline]
Oh and in 2032 they build a bridge from Russia to the moon.
sorry russia, you cant annex the moon.
Cool, but I wonder how they will tackle meteorites
Maybe they will colonize the interior of the moon?
Actually bad.
Warfare in and for space is going to be far more destructive than warfare on Earth. Lets just say that "rods of god" would be put to use, and the second any war starts over a colony on the Moon or Mars, said colony could be atomized.
There's a reason why "the rods of god" were never actually used. It's because they were impractical and dumb.
Article 2 of the Outer Space Treaty states: "Outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means."
So good luck with trying to put a claim on the moon Russia.
Space race! Space race!

To be fair, that was drafted when the world was on the brink of nuclear war. They wanted to prevent another avenue of nuclear payloads from being used against the West-dominated UN.
I doubt Russia really cares about the treaty, either.

Not really. The problem was that any non-tungsten components (explosives etc) wouldn't survive atmospheric re-entry. And that you had to get them up into space in the first place. But the weapon itself is a sound principle. Just too much effort when you could lob a nuke and do the same job better.

So... impractical and dumb? You lose a lot of energy flying through the atmosphere, and you need a lot of energy to put the thing up there in the first place. It's just a dumb idea overall, ICBMs serves the same purpose, but much, much more efficiently (they're deliver a lot more energy to the target. Like, not even comparable).

Nah, if you had the time and energy to actually put one in space, they'd be an ICBM beater due to the vastly reduced window and opportunity to intercept them (And, the lack of collateral damage and radiation). At least as a first strike weapon. If it were actually during a war your enemy would just destroy all satellites that could potentially house them.

Yep and create so much debris that humanity could never go back into space, ever!
Moon becomes new Russia
Decides to invade the entirety of Earth for all of the Russians still living on it
:v:
Bad jokes aside, I don't care who does it. Someone needs to take that first step of colonizing other space bodies.
Besides- If we ever truly want to expand and live elsewhere than our own earth, we've got to stop warring, fighting, and arguing amongst ourselves. The universe is simply too big for that, if we're going to plunge into it someday.
New space race please. First one to make a base on another planet/moon wins.
If NASA's funding suddenly increases with a mandate to hit both the moon and mars, we know that a second cold war is kicking off.
Assuming the second cold war hasnt already started
If Gingrich had been elected this never would have happened.
Well fuck. Given how little Russia cares about treaties here on Earth, I don't see them giving a shit about things like the Moon treaty or the Outer Space treaty (tl;dr: don't install weapons in space or claim celestial bodies to yourself). I am honestly a bit worried here.
What the hell are they gonna do from the Moon? Throw nukes at us? Not only would that be a huge waste of money getting them to the Moon, we'd have a few days warning before they got here. Lasers and other beam weapons would likely scatter before they got here or by the atmosphere.
I seriously doubt Russia can afford this.
Russia is expanding their military, their space programs, taking over bits of Ukraine, and yet they have a weak economy which is most likely going to stagnate or shrink now.
I don't think Russia will even land an astronaut on the moon by 2030.
Hasn't China been talking about Mars stuff too? Those Communist and ex-Communists are pretty inspired to start and win the second space race.
I guess it's kind of hard to lose whenever everyone else isn't participating.
Well, least we can hope for is that the Eastern Coalition doesn't violate the "no weapons in space" doctrine. Still, we need to put our Western space industries into overdrive. After all, it's a Space Race that's building up.

soon
Hope they build a better rocket than the N-1 this time around. Maybe this time they won't have to pretend it never existed for a few decades.

The engines were very advanced, though. The problem was that the whole thing was rushed - they didn't have time nor money to build anything proper.
They still use those same model of engines today even by American companies. But a good engine will only get you so far.
what are they going to launch on, the proton? its reliability is very questionable
Russia hasn't built a new booster since the Soviet union's energia and the facilities to build that dont exist anymore
this is something NASA's new heavy rocket is perfect for but the congressmen and president would rather talk about capabilities than actual milestones
[editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
also the proton is a lightweight compared to what's coming down the pipeline from commercial space
I imagine this'll cause some issues between nations considering no one really owns the moon
Well, everyone interested could get a piece
A red Moon is rising!
I hope to see a space race in my life time; this could be so exciting!
Speaking of Moon colonization... how is the land up there divided ? Technically if the Russians send a person there the complete moon is theirs(First come, first served?), until someone sends their conquistadors up there and starts a war or something.
