Survey: Europeans back Muslim veil ban, Americans oppose

You can say the same about the European Union by using evidence from this very thread. Americans have every right to say that the EU is less tolerant than America because there are statistics to back it up. They aren't being racist towards the Eu in this case.
There is no good reason to ban burqas. It's all Islamophobia and that's that.
What about identification? People can't be identified if they're wearing this:

Balaclavas can be used for robberies as well.
Just require people to remove the burqa temporarily in situations where an ID is necessary.
It's also worth noting that you are not required to identify yourself to a cop if you're simply walking down the street.

Then it should be banned as well...
Phobia means an irrational and inexplicable fear, like a fear of cucumbers.
Most Islamophobes are truly racists in that they hate all Muslims for no real reason, but when someone has a real reason for acting against Muslims, for example banning Burqas if there's a good reason for it, it's not Islamophobic.
So if I say 'I hate gay people' and TH89 bans me for being a Homophobe, he banned me for being scared of gay people?
No, no. You are analyzing it incorrectly.
Then it should be banned as well...
Yes but they're not banning it.
The point
your head
Then it should be banned as well...
calm down australia
Then it should be banned as well...
Should we ban parkas in the winter? I mean, you could easily hide a plethora of weapons under one of those.
Then it should be banned as well...
You avatar looked like Ahmadinejad for a second.
Churches are open to the public in the same way hotels are open to the public. Anyone can go in, but you can be kicked out if you don't agree to their terms.
It's a public place as long as the public gets in and private people are getting kicked out. It's a private place when private people get in and the public is kept out.
If you only counted truly public places, you would have nothing but the street left.

There you go slugger
If property is owned by someone, they can remove you from the premises as long as they adhere to any applicable anti-discrimination laws.

It's the mirror, silly!

Most banks, as far as I'm aware of have rules that you have to remove any headgear that could obscure your identity. This includes hats, sunglasses, veils, etc.
There should be a law against identity obscuring clothing in general in public places, not only burkas.

Well that's a stupid way of using the term "public place". Why just not say "on the street" then? Plenty of places are considered public while they're not truly that, and some of them ban certain clothing such as balaclavas.

I'll use the term "in public" from now on then. But my point remains the same, European countries are starting to ban burqas IN PUBLIC which is horrible.

Not in public
How about this.
Christians cant wear their Crosses
Muslims Cant wear their Veils
Seems fair

Not in public
Should the Vatican City be allowed to do it
I personally don't like veils because of the huge social barrier they make, muslims in Ireland who wear the veil rarely socialise with any people other than other Muslims. Just my two cents.
Well this is embarrassing.
On the other hand, kudos to the US populace, it's been a while since I've heard news that put them in a positive light.
What do you mean? Quite a few people are against Islam, and thus those who follow it, because of the shit in their holy book.
TL;DR: Dumb racists couldn't care about the person's religion and use the word "muslim" to describe a person of middle eastern origin
Dumb racists make up the majority of people who take exception to muslims. The people who have genuine concerns over the religion are a minority
If 70% of the people in a country doesn't want muslims there, should muslims come to the country or not?
I'm pretty sure that 70% were referring to people who wanted veils to be banned, not people who wanted Muslims to leave their country
To further the discussion, do you realise what Burqas are for? In the words of an islamic woman I know; "Many women choose to wear them. It allows men to judge us for who we are, rather than what we look like."
Of course that's not without exceptions, as I am sure that some traditionalist males force their women to wear Burqas, which I do not condone. The main point of a Burqa is to conceal their identity so that only the man has the privilege to see their woman - I think that's really sweet and special if the woman has opted to do that out of choice.
Contrary to popular racist belief, their purpose is not to assist in the commission of crime. It's not illegal to conceal your identity. You can happily walk down the street wearing a balaclava in England and unless the street and the Police do not have power to remove it unless an officer of the rank of Inspector or above authorises it.
We must recognise diversity. Burqas are a religious tradition of Islam and I don't see anything wrong with making a few exceptions such as the social consideration of a Burqa versus a balaclava. Although the interest of security I do believe that people wearing Burqas should be checked, albeit in a private area with a female security officer.
What's wrong with that?
Phobia means an irrational and inexplicable fear, like a fear of cucumbers.
Root words don't determine definitions. Words like homophobia and islamophobia don't mean fear, they mean bigotry.
Should the Vatican City be allowed to do it
No
I don't want to ban veils/full body burqa, because I don't believe in banning what people can wear on their own free will. The issue I have is the number of women who wear them because they are forced to, not because they find them stylish.
The arguments that they're unhealthy are irrelevant. You don't see a ban on wearing winter jackets in the summer.
Also masking laws.

East Germany is big on neo-nazis. In the DDR days they were taught that Hitler's actions weren't their fault, and it still shows today.

people don't know what's wrong with it, that's why they have to come up with all sorts of stupid stuff like "Muslims are taking over the world", that or someone told them along the line that middle-eastern people are bad
Thank god, they destroy our culter where they can!
Schützenfest ( german festival, once in a year) was cancelled, because some Turkish fuckwitzs complained about alcohol being drunk there.
If we would have said "No", they would play the race crad, and that combined with our history-->Not good.
Teaching German children Turkish so these pigs have one thing in school they are good at, is also not fair.
Just sayin..
I find people's lack of understanding of the real situation and the topic of the thread quite disturbing. The thread was about banning full veil burqa in certain areas, not the entire religion and not the burqa. Now that I think of it, if they completely ban veils in public, they might as well ban costumes and cosplay.

no.
Americans don't like the Mexicans.
Europeans don't like the Arabs/Muslims.
Americans would like Muslims more than Mexicans.
Europeans would like Mexicans more than Muslims.
Work it out for yourself why.
You think in this age of internet, everyone would have better understanding of other cultures.
