All this criticism is indirectly making me feel like a musical idiot with no taste for enjoying that song
thats silly taste was invented by pretentious losers in order to feel superior with their collection of bullshit no-one cares about
take it from me
Nile Rodgers took my photo and gave me a high five one time so I feel that this song undoubtedly represents me as a person
i was kind of hoping daft punk would expand on the weird glitchy elements and w/e they had in derezzed. that song felt inspired and this really doesn't
dude, if you like it, who cares what other people have to say about it
I usually value and consider the opinions of others quite highly. I usually also perceive quite transparently WHY others would not enjoy it, which makes me weigh different perspectives towards it. You could say that it is an empathy thing.
Its amazing how close the fake edits actually were.
Hey call me stupid if you want, but I almost thought I had sort of grown away from their music style as just a fanboy phase I was in as a kid... but nope, I'm loving this new stuff
catchy
vocals aren't so great though
Obviously people here are interested in Daft Punk and is why not just their single but their new album is considered news worthy. This thread isn't unique either, Snoop dog, Lil Wayne, David Bowie, PSY and Will.i.am (plus some people whose names I forget) have had in cases multiple threads about their musical direction or releases.
yeah, but the other threads had articles, or some kind of substance beyond simply stating the subject, this thread is unique because it is literally just a link to the damn song. case in point, it's putting Daft Punk on this weird pedestal and it's strange
like I said, I'm not the first person to have said there is an underlying "hail the 'Punk" attitude among the hardcore fans
[editline]19th April 2013[/editline]
I kinda disregarded that he accidentally posted this here, oops. that kinda renders that example meaningless, but still
This is awesome, great vibes in the song.
I still don't understand why people are bitching about the vocals on a a daftpunk song.
I mean, 95% of their songs don't even have more then 10 different words in it.

Isn't that kind of the definition of a hardcore fan though? Someone who believes the subject of their obsession to be above all criticism. Hardcore fans aren't representitive of a fanbase as a whole, and this is certainly no exception.

Well considering they chose to put them in, I would like for them to be decent, yes.
Not saying that they're not decent, I thought they were ok just didn't match the quality of the chorus, I'm just saying I would understand why people would be commenting on them.
united acid emirates was like the craziest and most delirious electronic record of 2010 and im so sad no-one even fucking heard it lol
United Acid Emirates is one of the best albums of 2010, hands down. Have you heard his recent release Cro Magnox? Andy turns out fucking brilliant tunes consistently. Capsule In Space was amazing too.
chiptunes and 303s
how curious
i never understood how daft punk achieved mainstream success.
except maybe discovery that was very straight forward.
Don't like the vocals. Still looking forward to the album
i think "why aren't they stuck back in 1997 making a homework part 2???" is a very legitimate question
I honestly believe that saying anything like "Why aren't they doing _____ like they did on ______" is the absolute wrong approach to take for any musician. An artist's tastes change and grow over time, and this affects the work that they produce. Change can and will alienate an audience. If the artist doesn't alienate their audience, they aren't growing.
You're allowed to not enjoy their later works! But if you want more of what you heard from their earlier efforts, you'd be far better off looking for new artists.
This is what happens when something is hyped into space. You get something good that is criticised for not being great.

that works fine in principle, but when your music starts to lack the qualities that made your first record so good maybe changing and growing over time is not your thing

no way really
its a mild and vaguely dancable song that recalls the worst of the disco age with its ambivalent playing and "soul" vocals
idk it just feels unloved. i dont feel like its 2 french dudes who were strung out on noise and wanted to hear their shit in a french club so they started dubbing cassettes with their weird mixes.
i feel like its a sterile pop song thats going for a cheeky nod towards a music style that no-one forgot because its already the rage anyway (seriously, the DFA is already killing the disco shit with incredible tunes):
and the nile rodgers guitar part is disappointing because it doesnt have the deep awesome bebop voicing that made him so unmistakable in chic:
like i know everyone'll just accuse me of being a hipster or just being an ass or whatever but this is what i genuinely feel and its a forum so deal with it
idk im sure itll appeal to like the younger kids who dont have their hand deep in the cookie jar of dance music (not being condescending, no one was born knowing everything about dance music) but to people like me whove heard those disco tunes and their modern tributes it just feels like daft punk isnt trying anymore like they did with homework; and thats pretty disappointing to me because i really did love homework.
or maybe its unfair to expect daft punk to blow my mind and i should just go back to digging around record stores and looking for UR vinyls
you should make a history of dance music thread

why didnt u include liquid dnb this thread sucks!!

'Good' is subjective. Doubtless there are many out there who prefer this to their earlier works, Daft Punk themselves may prefer this to their earlier works.
I think he understands that taste is subjective, it's not like he's calling you all spastics for liking it.
Well I fucking liked it.
Excuse me while I go cook with this smooth fucking bastard playing.
that works fine in principle, but when your music starts to lack the qualities that made your first record so good maybe changing and growing over time is not your thing
Look, I get it. You don't like any of the other albums as much as you like Homework, that's okay. But right now, you sound like you're stating an opinion as if it were pure and unbiased fact.
I personally enjoy Discovery just as much as I enjoy Homework, there's different elements for me to enjoy in both albums. I also see value in Human After All, and thought the way it was utilized in Alive 2007 was downright awesome. Each album has given me a different experience, and I feel that they all stand on their own. They aren't sequels to previous releases; they aren't supposed to be, and they never will be.
You don't like that Daft Punk have gone on to create music that is far removed from their debut, but that doesn't mean that they've gotten worse over time. It simply means that their new music doesn't appeal to you.

unacceptable
unacceptable
That's enough. We get it.
Your opinions are very valid, but it's just getting to the point you're trying to make shit for the sake of it.
why didnt u include liquid dnb this thread sucks!!
idk vedicardi's punk thread did fine without covering crust punk/powerviolence/riot grrrl/grindcore/crossover thrash/thrash metal/metalcore/mathcore/deathcore/rapcore/dance punk/pop punk/ska punk/post-punk/new wave/grunge/neo-vaporpunk/death grips
The song is meh until the robot vocals come in, then it starts to get good.
I love this song. I can only say the starting vocals are a little bit weird, but I love this song. Exactly what I expected.
