Updated image. It's beautiful
If they do something with a bit more heat like this, then the album may work.

I'll have to wait for the rest of the album to make fair judgement, but based off that track: I'm disappointed.
I was hoping for an amazing array of new electronic sounds that would rival the Discovery album, but that's nothing but a monotone let down. Good thing I'm not a fan and wasn't looking forward to this. But like I said, will have to wait for the rest to make fair judgement.

THIS is what this song should have sounded like, IMO.

..? That's not at all an "experimental" song. There are things far far far more experimental in the world of electronica being released every day.
Anyways, this track is a touch meh in my opinion. I'll wait until the entire album is out before I make any true judgement though.
united acid emirates was like the craziest and most delirious electronic record of 2010 and im so sad no-one even fucking heard it lol

it's experimental within the context of their body of work. i mean it's not recordings of elevator music played backwards at 500% speed over tuvan throat singing that's been run through a distortion pedal but relatively

Aesthetically it's a bit dirtier then a lot of their stuff but it's a fairly typical Daft Punk song structurally, yeah it uses a distorted 303 and the occasional glitched snare but beyond that it's not odd for Daft Punk to make.

perhaps it does stay within the confines of the "typical Daft Punk song", whatever that entails, but that just highlights the way they changed things up and made something undeniably different from the rest of their catalogue. the intended joy of "discovery" is long gone and has been replaced by aggression, paranoia, dissonance, and distortion. there is no melody to speak of besides the repetitive main riff with its single interval and odd timbre, the drums suggest the rhythmic clang of a giant machine, and the harshly whispered sample is simultaneously evocative of steam shooting out from pipes and the unsettling feeling of being watched. it's very different in those regards, and i'd infinitely prefer it over discovery reheated
edit whoops late on that one
Wow...this is so good. I use to hate Daft Punk.
This is not a very original song
but it's going to explode on mainstream radio and my mother is going to love it

In related news someone took the good part of Get Lucky and looped it:

All of those are aesthetic differences (with the exception of melody, but Rock N Roll was already very similar in that way). Keep in mind you were originally responding to "Daft Punk were never a very experimental group.". In the world of electronica, or music in general, Daft Punk are not experimental. In the context of their own catalogue of course not every song of theirs is identical to the last, the point is beyond simply aesthetics (which account for all those "mood" changes you speak of) there is not much differentiating it from their previous work. There aren't many risks being taken there and I still don't see how it's experimental, one can find changes of this sort in even the most typical and boring of musicians and it doesn't make them experimental.
My personal favorite album was Human After all, is this odd?
First part was ok, but then when it kicked into daft punk it was great.
I've listened to this song a couple of times now. I am just not feeling it. I don't like it very much, I don't see the huge hype over it, other than the fact that they are coming out with a new album.

it's different and it's relaxing, i just love it, such a good song to listen to if you're just walking around or if you're driving at night
It's a nice song really. I'm not a huge Daft Punk fan but I highly respect their unique style and I enjoy listening to them.

Pharell's live streaming his concert, keep an eye out to Get Lucky.
I don't know if my headphones aren't expensive enough or something but this song sounds better than a huge portion of their previous work.

Different strokes for different folks.
True Daft Punk fans don't discriminate.
I still can't get over the fact that Pharrell is 40.
he's played the song 3 times in a row, he's having so much fun with it

"The song just came out last niiiiiight, and Brooklyn knows the wooooords"
New lyrics right here folks
I really love this track. I like how Daft Punk has evolved from really heavy sounding electronic with thumping beats to more a more light and instrumental tone. They have really hit the full spectrum.

he looked so damn happy when people were singing along with him, he kept saying "the song just came out last night and Brooklyn knows the words" and that just makes me smile
