hm yea let me just trust the verge on anything ever
whats wrong with the verge? I love what they review and publish
I feel sorry if you happen across somebody who abuses this right who really shouldn't
You think the right to be naked on your own property is more abusable than the right to photograph anyone you want?
Sucks for people who call me nerdy if I wear one of these, because those people will be people without a powerlevel scanner.
You think the right to be naked on your own property is more abusable than the right to photograph anyone you want?
depending on who does it it could be considered assault on innocent bystanders not sure if you understood where the joke was, though, I don't like those loopholes in public photographic privileges, and despise the asshats who abuse them because they cause everybody to treat you with suspicion for even having a camera.
finally people can stop bringing that "I want to be an asshole and tell random strangers' glass to do stuff" picture up
It won't be difficult to sneak up behind someone and gently tap the device. [editline]22nd February 2013[/editline] Also I might be interested in this but at least for this generation I'd honestly rather have a phone that is much more powerful (And doesn't require voice commands making you look like a tool in public.) Maybe when the technology has time to mature I'd go into it but for right now I'll pass. I'm infinitely more interested in VR glasses right now, anyway. Oculus Rift, here I come.
Wait it has to be paired with a smartphone?! Goddamnit, there goes all my hype. Extremely interested in glass, but I don't own a smartphone nor do I really need one.
Wait so you want the Glass but not a smartphone? If you have a need for the Glass, chances are you could also use a smartphone. And I don't mean both at once, I mean the Glass is basically a smartphone on your head. Sounds to me like you're caught up in all the hype buddy boy.
It might be OCD talking, but I think having only one of those things that go over the eye doesn't look good at all.
someone developing instagram for it came to mind and I got a little sad
What is this comment referring to? What did I miss?
It might be OCD talking, but I think having only one of those things that go over the eye doesn't look good at all.
Judging by where the glass is located, I'm pretty sure it would be hard to focus on both sides at once. It would also mean a higher price for the final product.
What is this comment referring to? What did I miss?
it's depressing that there will be someone, somewhere, who expressly uses it to take pictures of their food and upload it to instagram
But if I record videos from my point of view how will I manage to ruin a concert for everyone around me by holding my phone up for 2 hours?
God dammit google, I'm trying to save up to go to the UK next year.

I really enjoy the idea of having a ton of those features so closely integrated with your self. It's not even that I'm really opposed to getting a smart phone, but it just seems silly since I could just use the phone to accomplish the same things that glass can do, what's the point in getting glass then?
holy fucking shit this is it this is the point where augmentations start becoming mainstream late 2013 guys and i will buy one 100%
this is hardly an augmentation its just an accessory its like saying a digital watch is an augmentation
this is hardly an augmentation its just an accessory its like saying a digital watch is an augmentation
Well it does sort of augment your reality to have a map in the corner of your eye at all times if you wish. [editline]23rd February 2013[/editline] Its like a real-life HUD
its like saying a digital watch is an augmentation
Well, it kinda is though. Same with normal glasses. They give you, or improve an already existing ability that you have. Through smartphones we got access to massive amounts of information, Glasses improve eyesight for those that has bad eyesight and cameras allow us to capture a moment in great detail. This only advances the method
I wonder if whe could record our path with their gps and use them as map data, that would be useful for trail riding on my enduro in the wood, i could go even faster because i can predict where is that turn even if gps signal is low, if it doesnt block my sight too much.

This only advances the method
It is an interesting point. Normal glasses improve your bad eyesight (although not perfectly) and bring it back to relatively normal, so to the individual they are an augmentation, but they do not improve a person's eyesight over the normal, meaning they do not improve a normal eyesight further, so it wouldn't really be an augmentation, and special glasses (jewellers loupes for example) improve one aspect of eyesight at the cost of another, so would they be considered augmentations? A digital watch however improves and augments your natural ability to track time so it definitely would be.
this is hardly an augmentation its just an accessory its like saying a digital watch is an augmentation
Baby steps.
Since glass has a camera and seeing from that video it can display video, is it entirely crazy to think it'd be able to help people see objects at a distance better? I'm not too excited until the price falls a little bit for these as I'm a poor student, but the implications of this tech are huge, even to industries where you might not think it'd be useful. I could see this really useful on things like farms where you'd like to get a specific animal out of a pasture but don't want to go up close and check every single animal for their ID tags. There's already workarounds to that (like shaving their number into their coat), but it'd be nice to have something even easier to use. Maybe it could even scan the IDs in eartags and overlay numbers over animals.
People will still find ways to be an asshole.
tbh when i'm using google voice search, you have to be really close for it to recognize you, otherwise it doesn't pick anything up
tbh when i'm using google voice search, you have to be really close for it to recognize you, otherwise it doesn't pick anything up
This is dependant on the device
How does it record video? Does it have an internal memory or does it somehow record to your phone?
Judging by where the glass is located, I'm pretty sure it would be hard to focus on both sides at once. The only practical use I can think of for the Glass (without any additional hardware) is viewing google maps while you're driving without having to look away from the road.
but i'm blind in my right eye..
but i'm blind in my right eye..
They'll probably have a flipped model.
But can it scan power levels?
Yes, up to 8999
I am kinda hyped by this, but the discussion in this thread has made me realize that if this product takes off it would bring many serious questions about social manners, privacy and the way we interact with each other. It is no doubt, an amazing technology, but are we truly ready for it yet?

I doubt that if we waited 20 years and then introduced this kind of tech, it would make people feel any more "ready" than if we introduce it now.
