COD Now Officially Stands for Copy of Duty: Ghosts Rips Cutscene from MW2 Nearly 1:1 - aka worse gam
I don't see why this is a huge deal, a lot of developpers reuse assets from their previous games. It's certainly not as good as completely new animations but it's commonly used method. Also the cutscene is fairly generic and it's just about two guys giving you a lift.
Although it's a bit cheap when you compare both but I wouldn't notice it otherwise. It just seems like people need to bash on Ghosts.
They had a large budget, 2 years, and they're calling it the "next gen" CoD that should beat GTA V in sales.
And they're reusing shit that dates back years ago.
What part are you seeing that I'm not seeing exactly?
Yeah, I have to agree. Especially with all the "next-gen talk" around Ghosts, they could have revamped everything. The aesthetics of the CoD series are always very similiar without much improvement, which I believe is also a big cause why people consider them rehashes. It barely changes visually.
Ghosts could have skyrocketed the franchise into something bigger and better, perhaps a new formula and a different look. But it seemed like they failed at that.
I remember when people gave IW total shit for just copying some old brushwork (which literally happens all the time in every single game)

But when it comes to this cutscene, people are defending it?

I don't think people are defending it, in that it's still being shat on or else we wouldn't be discussing the re-usage of animation material in such a poor light. IW was, depending on how you see it, "lazy" for reusing it or "efficient" at recycling old material (let's be honest, these are games that are being churned out year after year - recycling and cutting corners to maintain a schedule that tight was eventually going to happen).
But you are correct that game assets(this includes every aspect - from sounds, models, textures and also animation - both cycles and, to and extend, cutscene mo-cap data like the issue here) are frequently re-used, often touched up to fit the environment they're dropped in.
In this particular instance however, I think it's people adding more fuel to this burning pyre of game that's pretty abysmal.
Maybe they just fire and forgot? It's common for there to be placeholder scenes, and maybe someone just put that animation there, and it looked good enough so everyone just assumed it was final asset?

You don't just lose track of your unfinished work in a company so big.
I would buy that it is a "homage" or reference if it was an event that was more iconic. Also usually when there is an reference to past events, the events are similar but not exactly the same. The animations are exactly the same in the video. Its just laziness from the developers. They probably won't even make a comment on it because all of this will blow away in the next few days.
[editline]a[/editline]
Wow this comment on youtube has 106 thumbs up!? WHY!
Oh my god people! This is not unheard of. The script had a scene and this animation fit the bill. They still use the same engine so it doesn't financially make sense to re-animate a scene that is already covered.
They could have re-animated... would it have made the cutscene look any better? probably not.
I suppose you think that Assassin's creed should dump all their free running and combat animations every year and start from scratch too huh?
You'd be surprised apparently, there's plenty of wip content left inside games when they have such large teams (as you claim).
You don't just lose track of your unfinished work in a company so big.
it's especially possible to lose track of assets in a bigger company, where people join and leave during development and constant communication is a luxury
Call the fucking military, because a developer used an old animation from four years ago.

Found the series fan.

its fucking sad because I actually thought "this could have made a difference"
its literally the exact same story
it basically concretes 100% that CoD is just rehashed diarhea
That's lazy as fuck, but as I've never played mw2; the whole scene is technically new to me.
Disney has been doing this for years, big whoop:

You do realize that even though it's the same animation base they still have to redraw a considerable amount of it right?
by hand

To add to this, have any of you drew anything before?
Try drawing slightly the same thing but slightly different over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

And now imagine the amount of work and effort Studio Ghibli puts into most of their movies, the majority of them are fully handdrawn, nothing's ever reused and the fact that all of them are actually visually appealing.
I like how the comments on the video are rationalizing it as a "shoutback to old time fans"
as if the kind of people who genuinely like CoD would even notice.
This just shows how creative this company is... Even their nazi zombies ending was more creative than this :v:
This little detail isn't so bad but apparently the whole game is pretty damn awful and the price tag is insane :v:
2013 and they still can't figure out how to keep their models from clipping through their own gear, can't figure out how to keep players from colliding and jittering all over the fucking place, can't come up with much original, can't stick to their word on what they made the game out to be, can't do anything.
Everything is original to twelve year old kids who don't pay for shit.

Assuming the CoD player base is made up of 12 year olds :v:

If you consider the general community backlash, you could assume not.

I guess it's too hard to accept recycling assets
You'd be surprised apparently, there's plenty of wip content left inside games when they have such large teams (as you claim).
As far as I know. Stuff like that usually isn't removed if it isn't too big, simply to make sure that nothing fucks up upon removing it.
I guess it's too hard to accept recycling assets
I guess it's too hard to reasonably expect consumers of an annually released product to expect more from the company they pay $60 a year
-snip- whatever there might be some other good games but CoD really is for multiplayer only.

Kind of makes you wonder how "unintentional" GTA's controversial Hot Coffee minigame thing was, considering what you say. :v:

They probably rehashed it because it was difficult to time and weight. Traditional animation is mainly about giving the illusion of motion with a limited amount of frames.
Not the first time they did, I noticed this once I was playing MW3 with a friend:
FYI, that particular building has been in CoD since cod 1 and it was even reused multiple times in that game,
But so what? CoD really are not the only franchise that does it. I'm no fan of CoD but to call them out on reusing buildings when Battlefield does it just as much is a joke (plenty of games do it, some dev's even take from other in house games ).
