The only thing that keeping me from switching from Firefox to another browser like Opera is Adblock Plus and Noscript. Honestly, I hate using Firefox at times because it takes forever to load (on my rig).
Because I dont want to waste money on a OS only to see Microsoft releasing ANOTHER new OS. :colbert:
To be fair that is sort of how technology works, you buy new things and eventually they become outdated and stop being compatible with anything.
Doesn't chrome have both of those plugins?
why the hell are you still using an eight year old os?
10 year old, actually.
RTM: August 24, 2001 Retail: October 25, 2001
From wikipedia. Edit: Well, I suppose closer to 9 but my point remains.
Opera is the best from my experience, aside from there being less add-ons.
Clearly 60.39% of internet users don't know how to change their browser. The other 0.01% are Microsoft employees. Hurr hurr, moar boxes for box fort.
To be fair that is sort of how technology works, you buy new things and eventually they become outdated and stop being compatible with anything.
XP is still compatible with mostly everything released for Windows though.
This means nothing, though. Mostly because the majority of PC users run Windows and IE is pre-installed. The average user is either too computer-illiterate to replace it with a decent browser or they just don't know there are other (actually decent) browsers. Edit: Ninja'd god dammit
To be fair that is sort of how technology works, you buy new things and eventually they become outdated and stop being compatible with anything.
Generally OS turnover is 3 years, XP had 7 or something. Then people became attached to it and assumed that OS turnover was supposed to be closer to a decade than a few years. Making things incompatible for XP when 7 is out is like making things compatible with Windows 3.1 when XP first came out. Also, isn't IE9 supposed to have GPU acceleration and full HTML5 compliance? I'm fairly sure that's a large step up from IE8
XP is still compatible with mostly everything released for Windows though.
Sure. At the moment. Afaik the newest MS Office doesn't work on XP, the latest Direct X versions and now IE. XP is being phased out, face it, even if it is mostly Microsoft trying to sell more software.

DirectX11? Hardly any games are using it, and even if they are, most of them come with an DirectX9 compatible option anyway.
for the best browsing experience click on the big red O

There are absolutely none for still having XP. At all. Unless you have some kind of ancient PC, in which case it should be running Linux (imo).
It's a fairly new computer. Around two years old.

I'm going to download it because I think it deserves the chance to prove its better. Even if its not in the end.
hehehe generic IE hate
Installing it now. I wonder what it'll be like.

Posting from it now, it's actually quite nice. I can't believe it, a decent IE?
IE9, while a good browser and good for web standards and computer users in general, is not going to replace my Chrome any time soon.
why the hell are you still using an eight year old os?
because everyone has spare money to upgrade to a new OS when the one they use works perfectly fine for what they do, right?
Opera's gestures are so sexy, I can't remember the last time I hit the back button.
that's not even an O that's a multicolored ball-thing you can't just say "for the best browsing experience click on the big multicolored ball-thing"
Or click on this fox that is on fire and flying around the world because holy shit how fucking badass is that? It's funny that the other browsers still support xp
because everyone has spare money to upgrade to a new OS when the one they use works perfectly fine for what they do, right?
Oh please. OS's are ridiculously cheap. You can get Windows 7 for what, £70-80? That's maybe 2 new games and will last you a good few years. Your argument is invalid. Edit: And I think it's cheaper to upgrade from Vista and there are student discounts, too, if I remember right.
I used to be all "guys no windows xp is just as good as w7" then I got windows 7
XP is still compatible with mostly everything released for Windows though.
Well yeah, I wouldn't consider there to be a compelling reason to switch yet. I am, but only because I have a new hard drive to install and the university is offering free Win7 to the computer science students. It seemed like skunky was saying "why buy a new OS, it'll just get outdated anyway". There will be a day when XP is incompatible with everything.
so excited! downloading now. Oh the possibilities!
It's funny that the other browsers still support xp
According to this article from October, about 60% of Windows users are still on XP. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Windows-XP-Windows-7-Windows-Vista-OS-Market-Share-xp,11412.html Seems like it would be unwise for a software developer to do away with XP compatibility just yet.
Oh please. OS's are ridiculously cheap. You can get Windows 7 for what, £70-80? That's maybe 2 new games and will last you a good few years. Your argument is invalid.
