Well, k
How is this related to the rest of this thread again?
Insulting the baby isn't the problem. Hitting the baby was. And that's why he got 8 months for.

If I went up to some black couples baby and said "Can you shut that fucking nigger baby up" I'm pretty sure I'd get beaten half to death.

Yes of course they'd get upset, my post was just a general comment on the discussion in this thread, where the word nigger seems to be causing more emotions than the fact that a person slapped a damn 19-month child.

Probably, but would telling them to "shut that fucking nigger baby up" be illegal?
Because, you know, personal reactions are not always the same as legal reactions.
There's apparently a video of him now, in the article, where his attorney says he was sorry for the incident.

You can't just claim that you would get beaten up half to death by insulting 'some' black couple's baby. If you say 'some black couple'
it sounds like generalizing and you're basically claiming that you could expect that reaction from most black people. Just how fucked up is your view on people like this?
You can of course expect something negative to happen, but the first thing I would expect to happen when I insult a random couple's baby
is to get insulted myself and then get told to fuck off.

Was this realy necessary?
Also yet it'd contributed more to the thread than you

Woah there, calm your tits. I would expect the same reaction from anyone I walked up to and rudely told them to shut their baby up. In this case however the thread is about (I assume a black couple) and their baby.
Why, exactly, do you want people going around and actually SAYING a racial slur?
because you can't erase human history with abbreviations.
Why, exactly, do you want people going around and actually SAYING a racial slur?
Because it doesn't matter if you use the first letter or the word or the entire word, you've still said the word and we know exactly what word you mean so just say the fucking word instead of trying to either censor it or timid it down
context is a very important thing
[editline]7th January 2014[/editline]
there's quite the difference between
"shut that nigger baby up"
and
"a man today said 'shut the nigger baby up'"
the latter is informative, the prior is insulting
i don't really see why it's a problem if someone just doesn't feel comfortable saying it
I would expect the same reaction from anyone I walked up to and rudely told them to shut their baby up.
How can you even make a statement like this afterwards if this is obviously not what you believe?
In this case however the thread is about (I assume a black couple) and their baby.
Exactly, you said you would expect a black couple to beat you half to death in this case, to which I commented is something prejudice to believe.

I said that because it was relevant to the context of the thread. I'm not trying to be prejudice. Stop being so sensitive.

personally, i think its the combination of both.

i need to fucking tell you guys how much i dont care about randomly saying racial slurs to people GRRR being considerate makes me so angry! ! !! my blood is boiling super hardcore over this

truly it is the white man's curse to have to go around and not hear racial slurs all day.
truly it is the white man's curse to have to go around and not hear racial slurs all day.
it's the white man's burden to make sure he can go around saying whatever he wants whenever he wants it
Saying (the N-word) just feels like it's just a condescending overly politically correct way of saying the word nigger without actually saying it. But in the world we live in there's someone to always get offended by words even if the context in which they are used shouldn't incite any harm.

This is a really convoluted justification to get to say a racial slur? Why are you so eager to get to say it?

Dude, I'm just giving my opinion to how prejudice your expectation is, even if you didn't try to be.
It is and it's just wrong. I'm saying black couples could also react rationally -like a majoroity of people, whether black or not- by sueing the guy who hit their baby and be done with,
because chances are, it wouldn't be the first time someone called them or someone they know a nigger
and so they probably wouldn't snap as brutally as you claimed. That's all I'm saying and that's just my view.
Ever heard of a raw spot? When you've been hurt someplace before, you don't want to to be hurt again. Also, I'd like to see you to act rational when some fucker had hit your baby while saying a racist slur.

If you followed my and his argument it was all about that he expected them to snap JUST because he said nigger. I don't think adults would snap this much because of that, but of course there is a reason to snap when someone hits your child.
Someone hitting your child is a good reason, but as said, we were solely arguing on the verbal part.
Some people out there have had really bad experiences with racial slurs. Like, really bad. "Someone beating you in an attempt to kill you while shouting it" bad.
To some of those people the difference between "the n-word" and the actual n-word might be the difference between someone talking about car accidents and someone posting graphic photos of violent car accidents to someone who was in a car wreck and has bad memories of it.
Is the chance that saying the actual word causing a really bad reaction in someone slim? Yes. Is avoiding that worth the "inconvenience" of typing something with the same number of keystrokes? I'd hope that most people would say yes.

No-one even considers that with something like faggot though. I'd be willing to bet that's more common to be called in a beating.
I think unless you want to end up substituting every insult, we'll just have to not get offended when someone has a legitimate reason to use that word (which is obviously rare anyways).
