Also I see a Latvian flag hanging in that first picture...That's curious.
Latvia supplied almost a quarter of a million troops to the Germans so its not really surprising at all
Bad guy uniforms look really fashionable. Heck, this is why I also love the Imperial/Empire uniform in Star Wars, because Lucas based the uniforms off the Nazis. Look at how menacing this fashionable motherfucker looks: [t]http://images.buycostumes.com/mgen/merchandiser/61808.jpg?zm=1600,1600,1,0,0[/t]
Make it black and i'll buy 20.
Much like the restaurants owner, I have, literally, no words.
couldn't they go with imperial germany instead of nazi germany? their uniforms looked good too.
swastikas did bad things?
It's more about the connotation of the symbol when it's combined with the Imperial German colours than the swastika itself.
Latvia supplied almost a quarter of a million troops to the Germans so its not really surprising at all
Lots of other countries did, too. It's just I never see them being represented like such.
couldn't they go with imperial germany instead of nazi germany? their uniforms looked good too.
There's still a massive air of interest around Third Reich era German uniform, when people think about cool looking and intimidating uniforms they usually think about the Nazi era Wehrmacht.
couldn't they go with imperial germany instead of nazi germany? their uniforms looked good too.
Reenacters usually use replica uniforms. The market doesn't care too much for Imperial stuff so it's not as popular it seems. Which is unfortunate, I think most of the uniforms from any country of that time period are awesome. [editline]19th March 2014[/editline] Dammit WeekendWarrior we've gone and fucked eachother's merges.
There's still a massive air of interest around Third Reich era German uniform, when people think about cool looking and intimidating uniforms they usually think about the Nazi era Wehrmacht.
That's because they knew what they were doing, the Nazis for all their dick flaws and awful acts, they knew that image was an incredibly powerful tool, when you're struggling to feed yourself and there's tension in the country when you see folk who seem to know their shit and look impeccably dressed and well presented folk tend to listen, if not agree.
I'm not a Nazi, I just read it for the articles, err- I mean I'm just into it for the fashion.
Of course; Nazi architecture and uniform was intentionally designed to be incredibly intimidating and awe-inspiring. SS uniform in particular had an immense effect on the populations of invaded countries.
Huh. I don't honestly see the harm in it if it's explicitly for historical re-enaction purposes and there's a background check to ensure no neo-nazis or extremists get in and try to ruin it. I'd eat there once.
swastikas did bad things?
Swagstikas. [editline]19th March 2014[/editline] I-Sparkus, Swindon, 7 hours ago What is it with socialists and uniforms? Disgusting. Daily mail readers everybody!
There is a clear difference between the Swastika used in Hindu and the Swastika used as the insignia of the Nazi Party. They're very different, and signify two completely opposite ideals. I sincerely doubt that this restaurant is planning to be the rebirth of the Third Reich, but those swatstikas sure don't represent auspiciousness.
That's actually a common misconception, both the nazi symbol and hindu both point the same way and can be bent at the same angle. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-26369329
Not that I agree with that guy, but don't use this stupid argument, obviously the swastikas hanging there are Nazi symbols, that's the entire point of them being there in this instance.
The point is though that there's nothing wrong with the swastika itself, so if you're already having a nazi-themed dinner with uniforms and all I don't see how adding swastikas makes it worse.
Also I see a Latvian flag hanging in that first picture...That's curious.
You sure it's not just an Austrian flag that looks dark because of lighting/color balance? I thought the Latvian one had a thinner white stripe.
I live a few blocks from that place. Food there is great
I live a few blocks from that place. Food there is great
holy fucking small world MORE NEWS ON THIS STORY as more info comes out; more balls get twisted into a vicegrip of angst
Photos and details were obtained by City Pages via an anonymous tip, but once the story made the rounds, other employees and attendees came forward to give a clearer picture of what really happened. It turns out the dinner in the leaked photos did not take place around Christmas, but on January 20th of this year. If that date sounds familiar, it’s because it’s Martin Luther King Day. Nazi dinner on MLK Day, yikes. According to the event organizer Scott Steben, it technically was the group’s Christmas party, but it was the only day all the Nazi enthusiasts could make it, and the restaurant is closed to the public on Mondays. An anonymous source spoke with City Pages and provided additional info: “I just kind of put two and two together with Martin Luther King Day, Gasthof’s, hanging banners, full-on SS uniforms, and then they have even the Nazi swastika t-shirts and little pendants with the same logo that’s on the t-shirt.” The source provided some more images to City Pages as well: [thumb]http://cdn.hypervocal.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nazi-update-tshirt.jpg[/thumb] The source said “the back of the shirt has dates like a tour shirt. It has the cities the Nazis invaded and the date.” Merch? Rad! The owner of the Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit restaurant, Mario Pierzchalski, spoke to the Star Tribune on Tuesday and defended the sixth annual gathering at his restaurant. “We live in a free country…but from the comments I see, a lot of people they don’t see what freedom is. If I break the law, punish me. But we did this for so many years and everything was fine.” [thumb]http://cdn.hypervocal.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/nazi-update-1.jpg[/thumb] Pierzchalski said he’s received threatening phone messages and online comments, some threatening to burn down the restaurant. Pierzchalski is a Polish immigrant himself, which makes his defense of the controversial dinner even stranger. He claims it was a well-rounded event, with a few men dressed as Italian soldiers and one American soldier. Pierzchalski and Steben say it’s an event for actors trying to get into character for WWII movies … which would be fine if it didn’t sound like some attendees were Nazi enthusiasts or actual Nazis. A former Gasthof’s employee who left the restaurant two years ago says he worked a number of events held by the group depicted in the photos. He told City Pages that during an event, one of the group members asked him if he was German. When he told the group member he was Polish, he was asked if he had any family in the war. “I said, ‘Yes, my grandfather was in a Nazi concentration camp.’ And they said ‘Oh, well, water under the bridge then,’” the source says. Employees were routinely asked by guests if they were German, and one female server, who was German, was told by a faux SS officer, “Oh, we can make the perfect babies together because you’re German and I’m German.” It’s easy for the organizers and attendees to hide behind the guise of a historical and educational dinner, but in 2014 America there is literally no excuse for a scene like this. Well, besides abject stupidity.
http://hypervocal.com/news/2014/nazi-dinner-mlk-day/ lol martin luther king day

Oy vey! What a holocaust!
Is that a Latvian flag on the right Am i missing something here
I was not aware of this. I'm going to dress up as a Danish WWII soldier, go there for 20 minutes, declare it's too much for me to handle, and then leave. I'll even have one of their silly, silly helmets to complete the costume.
Guess who ate there with friends ;) [editline]19th March 2014[/editline] Oh fuck three people in this thread have eaten at this place eject eject
Is that a Latvian flag on the right Am i missing something here
Not sure if Latvia was allied with the nazis but a lot of countries allied with the nazis because the soviets were their enemies.
You sure it's not just an Austrian flag that looks dark because of lighting/color balance?
I always found it funny that people can do reenactments of other wars and play the other sides. However, whenever someone puts on a German uniform it is automatically horrible and equals Hitler worship. Maybe these people just enjoy certain aspects of history, it isn't like they're role playing as gas chamber technicians.
I will always think the WW2 german uniform is one of the best looking uniforms of all time
