Let me guess, you use Google. :downs:
I wonder what happened to the do not be evil motto?
Aaaah, my datars!
I thought this was obvious. When you capture unencrypted WiFi traffic you can't not capture passwords, URLs and emails.
Edit:
This
This whole Wi-Fi sniffing debacle is the most overblown thing ever. A freaking misconfiguration happened so that entire packets were stored instead of just the frame headers with the SSID and MAC of the access point. The data part of the packet was unused, and some of them did likely contain urls or emails. Such is as it is with unencrypted wireless communications. However, it wasn't any scheme by google to analyze this info - they themselves were the ones to admit this misconfiguration in the first place, and now everyone is in an uproar over nothing.

Wait just a fucking second everyone, read the comments on this article (http://gizmodo.com/5671049/google-street-view-cars-collected-emails-and-passwords) before you begin replying.
Most of these articles are only trying to make Google look bad, rather than looking into the issue.
Informative
Google admitted to it, so it's not a problem, they mean good. If they denied it and deleted the data claiming it never existed, then we'd have a problem.
Wait, HOW did the street cars steal the data?
Doesn't make sense to me
Why would a car who's purpose is to take snapshots of streets it's constantly moving and driving on, take more than pictures? Why would it take specific details like that, and not only that, store them?
It's intentional as it gets... whether Google intentionally wanted to do it, Who can say for sure, but how it was done can't be an accident
Google: We suck at trying to be evil :smith:
You should expect especially the bigger companies to harvest whatever information they can.
Let me guess, you use Google. :downs:
Yep, but their recent actions have made me consider changing. They repeatedly denounce privacy on the internet, they do this and lie about it, then they fucking get a deal with verizon that practically goes against their net neutrality stance. It's all bullshit really.
I still will blindly follow Google to the end of the earth.

Get off this forum lemmings can't even use keyboards what are you doing
Oh fuck, Google has my GMail Password!
Open, unsecure.
their problem
if you're broadcasting unsecure then you're essentially talking on your phone, outside, with a loudspeaker, for everyone to hear. just because it's your wifi doesn't mean that people magically can't intercept it.

hello terrible web comic, how's it going?
and i'm going to bet the data collector on the cars just indiscriminately intercepted a bunch of unsecure transmissions, a lot of them including emals and passwords because that's what people do on the internet. they probably didn't intend to collect passwords or account information in specific, it just happened

Top option.
Oh no I was called 12, what shall I do?
The google hate squad strikes again. This isn't the full story, and someone already posted the full story on the first page. Lots of people hate google just because of how big they have become. With some fancy wording and removing certain data, they post stories like this almost daily.
I'm kinda avoiding Google when possible now. Although I can believe this to be accidental to an extent, I can't put faith in a company where Schmidt's the CEO. That guy is creepy.
