Welcome to China
My point is, if Japan said sorry, China wouldn't really care.
Umm how can you tell considering the Japanese have NEVER done so? Please use your brain instead of pure conjecture.
Yes, the Chinese Communist Party bases its legitimacy largely on anti-Japan invasion during WW2, which is not a productive position considering the two countries' trade and cultural relationships in this day and age. However, this doesn't excuse the horrific atrocity the Japanese committed during WW2 and their subsequent refusal to own up to it in a decent manner.
On a sidenote, some have speculated that this recent dispute with Japan is actually a coordinated effort from both the Chinese and Japanese to shift attention away from Chinese president's prolonged absence (some have rumored he's seriously hurt or even dead).
MINDFUCK.
the mostly young protesters chanted "down with Japanese imperialism" and called for war as they made their way down the streets under the watchful eyes of police and guards.
Has Japan really done anything imperial in the last 50 years? I think the last half a century has seen more Chinese Imperialism than Japanese Imperialism.

Umm yes? The US was hugely paranoid over the Japanese taking over in the 80s, before they imploded.
Quite similar to US paranoia over China's rise now, if you ask me.
This is exactly like the shit storm over the Falkland islands.
No it's really not.

What did they even do?
What did they even do?
Commercial dominance mostly, especially in auto/electronics industry. Plus the US economy wasn't doing so hot with the twin deficits.

Btw, this shit is gonna get even worse. September 18th is most widely known in China as Japan's official invasion during WW2. So expect more massive protests/riots to come.
Beijing's traffic is already basically dead. Can't get anywhere.
What did they even do?
Fucking laserdisc motherfucker. We were scared of these beasts.

Oooh. I was talking about imperialism in a similar sense to how Japan was after the Meiji Restoration.
I think they beat china at Judo during the Olympics a couple of times.

Yeah I don't think they'll stop looting and burning shops if the Japanese government admits to what their ancestors did decades ago
Their hatred's a liiiiiittle more ingrained than that

Actually, I think it would help a lot, but neither you nor I can say for sure, since the prerequisite condition has never been met.
You have to look at this objectively. While the Chinese government makes a big deal out of the Japanese invasion in the textbooks, the Japanese government makes almost ZERO mention of Nanjing Massacre and so on in their own textbooks. Neither regime has taken a candid approach towards the war, the Chinese are raised thinking the Japanese are a bunch of savage murderers, while the Japanese wonder what the hell they did to piss off the Chinese so much.
Why fight over a stupid island? And how come no Chinese or Japanese billionaires go buy the island itself for their own private property
They used to be owned privately by some Japanese. The Japanese government bought it, ostensibly so that they would be kept undeveloped, and ended up triggering this shitstorm.
And then the power hungry Chinese wakes up an ancient dormant civilization! Right, right? :downs:

Except that older generation Chinese are elitist as hell, almost the the point of neo-Nazi/white supremacist/Zionist zealotism
That combined with the youth who just want to smash and steal stuff (Stanley cup riot) means that anything they have against Japan's denial of warcrimes is only a front for blind nationalism
Borderline death threats to the Japanese can't be resolved with a simple admission of guilt
