I can't wait for the day when it actually fucking leaves. The boundary between the solar system and the interstellar medium is so fucking thick..
Voyager has now entered a realm of space beyond the influence of our Sun.
Kind of eerie if you think about it.
This doesn't look good to me.
Remember Star Trek: The Motion Picture? V'ger will come back!
Relevant
even though that was amazing it kept bugging me how voyager was travelling backwards the dish is meant to be facing behind it so it can send and receive messages
This thread gives me butterflies. Space is fucking cool.
Instead they'll just get the golden record and learn all about us.

Voyager may lose power one day but it will keep rockin' for 4.4 billion years
The image of Voyager slowly flying past with the tinny radio sound of Jonny B Goode emanating from it amuses me greatly So long Voyager, Hope to see you again some day
There's still a discussion going on whether or not it was a bit naive to send something deep into space with our location in respect to nearby stars, things about us, etc. in case it's picked up by someone who's not quite as nice as we'd like them to be. On the other hand it might show that we're not afraid of being visited.
We broadcast a lot more information out there on a daily basis these days, so we're already screwed if said aliens have a radio.
hopefully it finds my keys

NASA's JPL strongly disagrees with this news. http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?release=2013-107
"The Voyager team is aware of reports today that NASA's Voyager 1 has left the solar system," said Edward Stone, Voyager project scientist based at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, Calif. "It is the consensus of the Voyager science team that Voyager 1 has not yet left the solar system or reached interstellar space. In December 2012, the Voyager science team reported that Voyager 1 is within a new region called 'the magnetic highway' where energetic particles changed dramatically. A change in the direction of the magnetic field is the last critical indicator of reaching interstellar space and that change of direction has not yet been observed."
As a source JPL >> HuffPost
I don't care if Voyager has actually left our solar system or not, but just the fact that we sent it is mind boggling. Humans are amazing. We did that. I shiver when I think about it. I literally shiver. The thought that a man-made object, that was made 35 years ago, is still functioning out there is just amazing.
I can imagine SETI picking up Johnny B. Goode long after Voyager has gone offline and everyone there shitting themselves.
I can imagine SETI picking up Johnny B. Goode long after Voyager has gone offline and everyone there shitting themselves.
Would be amazing if it, as a parting gift, sent back some music before it runs out of power around 2025

It sure leaves the Solar System a lot, doesn't it? Hmm.
The next probe they send out of the system should have this playing. I think this woman's got the archetype of the angelic voice, and it's sure to make an impression if any ever find it. [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] That, or this one: Same singer.
Has it hit the Mass Relay yet?
Keep on truckin', Voyager. Keep on truckin' o7
It is now time for us all to watch Galaxy Quest again. What do our radio transmissions even do? Get aliens to imitate I love Lucy, of course.
It sure leaves the Solar System a lot, doesn't it? Hmm.
Well, it can be understood to do that in several ways. For example, the Voyager can pass the planet pluto. If I understand this correctly, however, it is leaving the sun's sphere of gravitational influence entirely - Past the bubble of dust at the very edge of our system.
since we're talking about music aboard voyager: can we put kanye west on the next one? to clarify im not talking about his music
From what I've read, it was a miss print and it's just at the edge of the outer edge of the edge of the solar system. :v: [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] Not quite there yet.
how awesome would it be if an interstellar race lands on earth and they beam down voyager from their ship and give it back to us and we become massive space bros
i have an idea to keep us safe from alien invasions on the next voyager-alike we send out, we should put a bunch of Imperium of Man propaganda on it and just some cutscenes from Space Marine so the aliens see this and are like "woah man we shouldn't mess with these guys do you see how much they hate xenos like us?? lets steer clear out of this neighborhood" [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] although tbh showing a bunch of guardsmen getting massacred by tyranid or eldar would probably be a more accurate representation of what would actually happen to us in an alien invasion

is that jason segel at 0:29?
