A mortar shell probably dropped right in on them, or a rocket. Who knows after nearly 10 years maybe those taliban morons actually hit something by doing that. Either that or a Negligent discharge. I can't really see any other way it could have happened really. If it was a friendly fire incident we would've heard about it, if some moron gunman opened up on a base we would've heard about it, so my guess is a Mortar/Rocket attack
Or it wouldn't have been too surprising if it was an attack by an ANA soldier. Sadly those have been on the rise in recent months.
Mortar, RPG, some explosive thing probably. Maybe even just a spark from a gas explosion?
Getting these vibes from the place where she said that he might have survived this.
Maybe someone really wanted to use the computer.
I think the more realistic explanation would be that he had a heart attack or an aneurysm.
But the article explicitly states "killed"

Unlikely to happen behind the wire on a FOB. I don't think that a 43 yr old nurse is going to have much interaction with the ANA.

He suffered some sort of attack, not being attacked. I blame the shoddy journalism in the original article for the confusion.
He was a nurse? They killed the nurse?

My bad it said he was killed so i just assumed.
Probably the stress from the environment worked his body so much he just had a heart attack or something.
