I really recently went to a party where I got pretty mashed. There was a bouncy castle. Nothing like being shit faced, feeling the world spin around you whilst flailing like an idiot on a bouncy castle.

It sounds like you turned up drunk to a kids birthday party.
Honestly I think the only reason I don't drink at all is that I can't find a drink I like the taste of.
Get drunk and have a laugh then, because your friends are probably thinking the same thing about you.
I only drink when I feel like it, I don't drink just because the rest is drunk. I'd rather just leave if that's the case. That said, don't get me wrong, I like a good beer as much as any other guy. I just don't enjoy it every day
I don't drink alcohol because personally I don't see enjoyment out of it. What's the point? I'd rather drink a coke over a beer any day.
I don't give a shit what anyone else wants to put in their body.
thats like saying I'd rather smoke a cigarette than a joint lol.
Probably because they feel bad about their drinking and need to defend their chronic alcoholism against a non-existant person reminding them of it.
I love how Starpluck claims Anti-Alcoholics are "just nerd shut-ins" and you better drink to be cool and social!!! This is a prime example of the sorta person that creates the peer pressure that makes alcoholics.
chronic alcoholism? how's the weather up there on the high horse
I don't drink because... wait for it... I don't like the taste.
I know, I know, I've heard it all before: "Bro try this instead" "You just haven't had the right thing yet"; except that all the stuff does actually taste the same, at least to me.
The amazing thing about that is, I've not lost anything by not drinking. I see zero reason to force myself to drink something that I don't enjoy so that I can conform to someone else's standards of fun. Not to mention that I've noticed a direct correlation between amount of alcohol consumed and how irritating people are.
I've been at parties and been bored out of my mind, sure, and perhaps I wouldn't have been if I'd had a few drinks; but I wasn't bored because I was sober, I was bored because there was nothing to do except watch drunk people dance to shit music.
You're free to do drink, whatever. I take issue with it when you expect me to do.

Go sit at the kiddie table, lets the adults drink in peace.
Just kidding.
Beer/Ale/Lager is Delicious, not all beer is created equal and not all beer is the same. There are some really good testing beers out there. Its hard to describe, but if you're actually drinking beer to enjoy it you'll know.
Most people like to drink Bud Light and they call themselves beer drinkers (I live in pretty small town)....they're just people trying to get hammered off of water.
You can't have tried many drinks if you say you don't like the taste. There's Hooch which is basically just lemonade and Kopparberg cider which tastes of fruit, neither of which overpowering.
Plus there's more beers than just the stuff everyone knows. Peach beer is really nice.
Wow some of you guys must be so fun at parties

So instead of having a few drinks and having a good time you'd rather sit there bored?
Even if you aren't drinking, you could just partake in conversation, that's quite a common thing at parties. Alcohol can also really help on that front, you're going to be more open and not scared to start a conversation.
better inject some ethanol into my liver.

you sir are partying wrong
go chat people up or something jesus
Why can't people just not drink again?
I think the biggest reason I don't drink is because I don't like having my judgement impaired in any way. Hell, I don't even like sleeping because I know there will be a period the next morning when I won't be fully functioning the way I should.
Don't have a problem with drinking what so ever though. Filming drunk people is especially fun.

To be honest, I'd rather not be there at all.
As for conversation, there's a point in every party where people get sufficiently drunk that they are either no longer interesting conversation or are more willing to go and dance or something.

I don't go to parties for enjoyment, I go because I'm expected to. Granted, I don't go to many, and those I do tend to be celebratory ones, such as birthdays.
When I'm there I'm more than happy to let everyone else have their fun, provided I'm not also made to have; their fun. Chatting people up? Meh, would probably require dancing and I don't fancy my chances even if I put myself through that.
I know, I'm such a square. But I try my best not to be stop others having fun. The fact of the matter is, I'm not into alcohol as a drink, I'd much rather have a coke or something (no, I don't care about the health bullshit), and I just don't find the environments in which it becomes a social thing enjoyable.
I drink it mostly for the sleepy effects, there's plenty of safer sleep medication out there but I find it more fun to make up little games with my alcohol. I usually start up any game then with Vodka I pour myself 3 shots and if I die at all then I have to drink one shot after all my lives are up I'm usually fast asleep. There are other games but it depends on the drink.
The best thing about drinking at parties for me is the drinking games. It sort of throws moderation out of the window and chances are someone will end up crouched over a toilet but they are hilarious at the time.

Alcohol isn't good for aiding sleep. The sleep isn't quite as beneficial from what I remember. Use actual sleep medication or something.

I'm not massive on the taste of much. Often, I just drink to get drunk and bear the taste. Over time you get used to it and even start to like some drinks. Rum and coke is a personal favorite.
Alcohol makes you not bored. Why even turn up to something like that if you're just going to sit in a corner judging everyone?

I don't judge anyone, that was kind of the point I was making.
I only go to such event on pretty rare occasions, such as birthdays and then I just let them have their fun. I don't look down on anyone. Sure, I'm bored, but I'm often bored in classes and what-have-you, I sit through them just fine.

There's sort of a difference between a party and a class. One, you're expected to be bored at. The other you're expected to have fun at.
Seriously, if you're sitting in a corner by yourself sipping on a Coca-Cola and not talking to anybody and not having fun, that's your own fault. I have several friends that simply don't drink that come to parties, and they still have a fun time by laughing at our drunk antics and having conversations and being sociable. Hell, I've been to a number of parties where more than half the people there weren't drunk. A lot of my friends straight up don't drink, or drink very little. Nobody cares as long as they still socialize and have a good time.
Parties are not just for getting drunk, they're meant to have fun and socialize. Getting drunk just makes that easier (and funnier). If you don't want to drink, by all means, don't drink. But don't "sit through it," or people have every right to view you as a boring antisocial straightedge. Be social. Believe it or not, you are judging drunk people by refusing to socialize with them. Just have fun.

Also, not liking the taste is understandable, most cheap beer I've tasted has been almost vomit-inducing. But saying "alcohol is all bad" is a stupidly judgmental thing to say. There's always a drink that somebody will like. There's drinks that genuinely don't taste like alcohol at all. There's stuff that tastes like orange juice or fruit punch and gets you drunk fast enough to not even notice the taste after your first few swigs. Saying all alcohol is bad is as stupid as saying "all bread is bad." Unless you're allergic to wheat, there's something you'll like.
Where's the fun of getting drunk on alcohol? A drunk man is far more dangerous than a stoner on weed.
You could have a drink that taste good without alcohol.

It's not like you automatically get drunk after one drink. Sure some people drink to get drunk, but you can, I dunno, moderate the amount of alcohol you consume. You don't lose all sense of control and common sense from a few drinks with friends.
You guys seem to see only the extreme cases of people losing themselves to alcohol and base everything off of those experiences.

First off, I wouldn't ever want to expect to be bored in a class. Somethings gone wrong then.
I don't go to parties because I don't enjoy parties; I don't enjoy parties because I find there's little very interesting to do there, there's music playing that's loud enough to obstruct most conversations, I either know or don't care to know everyone there, you get the idea.
The point is that I avoid parties because I know that I'm not going to enjoy them, and so when I do end up in one, I just sit back, make myself as small as possible and let everyone else enjoy their fun.
I just turn my brain off and wait for a few hours. It could be worse, but it could still be much better.
Besides, I don't mind people thinking of me as a boring straightedge, in fact boring would probably be one of the most used words to describe me, depending on how well the person knows me.
Why do people use Alcoholism as the main reason to not drink, you're pretty much just saying you have no self control if you think that drinking even light amounts will make you an alcoholic.
It's not a big deal, it's not like if someone doesnt drink it takes away our ability to drink
Honestly this thread is full of people uncomfortable that someone willingly chooses to not drink. Like how does this affect you in any way that someone doesnt drink? In the world there are people with lifestyle choices you dont agree with (like maybe vegetarianism) just get over it.

If you go into anything with the mindset 'I'm not going to enjoy this' then the chances of you not enjoying it increase dramatically - this happens with everything. Now I'm not the most easygoing person when I'm in that mindset tbh, and when I'm not enjoying a party I do little to hide it and just sit in a corner and not talk to anyone but the thing is I treat parties like I treat anything else; I like some and I dislike others. Basically, if you're at a party full of people you like, or people who don't clash with your personality and you're in a sociable mood, you'll enjoy it. I also take issue with your comment that you don't like the taste - trust me, alcohol is so varied that there WILL be something that you like (and keep in mind that the stuff most people at parties drink is piss anyway).
Anyway my recommendation for people who don't enjoy parties in general is to do what I did; have a drink and you'll get more sociable, talking to people will enhance your enjoyment which in turn will make you more sociable. If you're at a party full of cunts though no drink will enhance your enjoyment - I used to just get utterly fucked at those things but now I just don't go
Last time I got really drunk I had to run from the cops. We were trespassing on someones mountain. Then I ran home and jumped into a jacuzzi filled with sober people with my cloths on. Then I barfed.
I've drank a few times but I don't have the urge to drink, ever. It makes you "feel good" sure but it tastes so damn bitter. Medicine makes you feel better too but I can't even drink that without gagging.
Why don't you try a different drink? Disliking the taste of one drink and then forgetting about drinking all together seems a little over the top really. It's the same with a lot of thing's in life.
I have. I've tried several. And frankly, the fact that you're just assuming I've only had one and quit the whole damn genre of drinks is both absurd and offensive.
Also I don't think I've ever heard of someone drinking a beer or whatever for the first time and enjoying it, the taste grows on you over time.
Yeah, tried that too, the taste never grew on me. And no, I wasn't drinking Budweiser or some shit, it was local brew.
I don't feel like drinking (also underage too, but you know). I don't see the appeal in it, and I know being drunk is not my definition of 'fun'.
