Only people with zero simultane capacity must stand still to listen to dialougue. I played and listened at the same time like a boss.
How the hell are people beating it so fast? I'm 7 hours in at chapter 8. I haven't even touched co-op yet
Two articles saying that Portal 2 is not 4 hours? I wonder how much Valve is paying them.
agreed
who the hell cares how fast you can finish a game
Speedruns can be incredibly fun, but only after you've played through the game at your own pace and enjoyed evreything.
Also most of the time speedrunners are the people who have played the game the most, because they've practiced each section hundreds of times, so they still aren't missing out on anything.
Playing through the game yesteday afternoon, it felt like I had only played for 2 - 3 hours.
Then I looked out of the window and discovered it was morning the next day.
im basically the best ever
and my portal playtime so far is 13 hours which is all of sp and half of coop
so
ur not correct
although i do now recall having it alt tabbed for a few hours while i worked a shift at work
so
woops
I don't see how I am not correct I did it in 7 and a half hours completely :v:. People are rating me dumb for completing a brilliant game quickly oh no arrest me.
Apparently none of you think with portals.
This game really isn't that hard, only a couple of the wheatley puzzles confused me. The "last" puzzle isn't even that hard, it took me like 10 minutes to figure out what to do.
I did it at my own pace, played around 6 - 7 hours before I completed it.
i think the SDK is truly what's going to make portal 2 great, the valve maps are pretty easy and straight forward
[editline]20th April 2011[/editline]
though the amount of details in the game is great, there's so many additional rooms to explore in the game
atleast the maps from portal are really thought through
compare the effort given from any midgame portal map to an average fps map and you'll know why it's shorter

Someone's trying to dispel rumors and accusations. They MUST be getting bribed to say these things!
That, or they're trying to be rational about this and trying to tell the PC fanbase to stop over-reacting (which is sometimes more like trying to tell water to stop being wet). Take your pick.
I'm 26 hours in and I'm still [sp]falling down that shaft[/sp]
Left 4 Dead had NO single player campaign at all.
Obviously it wasn't worth the money

it's quite obvious that it is not those kinds of speedruns we are discussing here.
and yes i agree with you that some speedruns are fun to watch, unless it's one of those "use every glitch possible" speedruns.
One thing I would like to know is this: When did monetary value become equivelant to overall game length? Surely you are purchasing a game for the product and effort put in by the developer, not a measurement of how much of your time will be consumed? I don't think Portal 2 needed to be any longer than it was.

You're as bad as the people trolling the RPS comments section. Seriously, you're not funny and in my opinion you should be banned on the spot for trolling.
Saying a ~7-8 hour game is 4 hours just so you can bash a company is fucking hair-brained. How many people do you think made comments on various social networks about their play time entirely based on the broken steam tracker? Mind you my friends and I have not experienced it being broken, but I'm sure the people reporting times under 2 hours have.
A console port is defined as being a game that runs poorly on a PC but just fine on consoles which portal is not. To imply that the source engine has somehow become a console based engine and that Valves assets are aimed at console is just absurd. Troll is the only thing I can call you without seriously doubting your intelligence.

Why even argue philosophy? Its pure fact that portal 2 is, by modern definition, a full-length game. That being said, monetary value is considerably influenced by a game's play time, regardless of production costs. You can't sell a 2 hour game for $60 dollars and expect sales. With linear games like portal 2 this is undeniably true, while games like Garrysmod have a different relationship. Garrysmod could entertain you for days, weeks, months or you could hate it and drop it the first day. In my opinion and by the law of adverages GMod is worth more than $10 given the entertainment value it provides, but I digress. The point is the amount of time a game will entertain you factors into its price as it affects how well it will sell.
I got so tired playing Portal 2, I had to take a 3-hour nap so I could actually finish it.
I've beat Portal 2 twice in the last 2 days, but not all super-fast. Each playthrough was around 7 hours (my timer ain't broken, it says 15 hours)
Anyone playing it any faster than that would be missing out on all the interesting dialog and quirks that make the game truly enjoyable.
[sp] For example, I sat and stared at the robot inspection area for awhile, laughing at the defective robots as they were flung to their doom and their reactions were hilarious[/sp]

It'd be perfectly fine to doubt that guys intelligence.
beat it in about 5 hours, give or take 30 minutes.
game was good, but low to no replay value. Co-Op is ok.
Missing content? Why does it sound like valve took content out of Portal 2 and leaked it on purpose just to catch console pirates to prove PC isn't the only platform with piracy? Sounds too much of an improbable plan though.
Unless that's the PC version with short playtimes, of course.
says I played 13 hours, and thats just how long it took me in singleplayer, if not longer. thats not counting the atleast 12 hours I've spent in co-op
I played my first playthrough today, and I'm sure I missed out on some things. It took nine hours. 4 Hours, I doubt it.
Only people with zero simultane capacity must stand still to listen to dialougue. I played and listened at the same time like a boss.
You likely missed a ton of dialog, then. There are some lines that only play when you stay in one place for a bit.
almost 5 hours and that is a fact.
I played from 1:55 am on tuesday till 3:00. So like 1 hour
Woke up at 9, roughly played from 1 to 5: 4 hours.
[editline]20th April 2011[/editline]
Also it make sense that people want to brag about beating this game because it's all puzzles.
So if you can beat a puzzle game faster than your friends, that is an accomplishment.
Judging by achievements and personal timing, about 5:30 to complete SP. With getting stuck, and paying attention to stuff going on. Except for the two times [sp]where GLaDOS tries getting you to go in to the death chamber/wheatley and the pit boss achievement.[/sp] Those situations I didn't really pay much mind to the first time around.
I could take about 7 hours.
But I like to dick around in the rooms.
Steam says 2.7 hours for SP Campaign, but as I watched the time it actually took me a bit below 4.
[editline]21st April 2011[/editline]
And I explored everything and stuff, so I really must have gone berserk at the puzzles, judging from Coop, msot people suck at thinking with Portals.
Took little over 5 hours.
Co-op took littler over 4 hours.

That, on top of co-op which took about 4 hours. It really isn't that bad for a single player game. Co-op could have been better, though. Especially if they made some kind of built in editor and allowed users to create their own puzzles and upload them to a randomized master server. I love games that let you do that.
Otherwise not many legit complaints except the re-playability (SP has some, co-op has hardly any at all)
