I'm going to base my moral decision of this topic entirely on which group sounds like it would be a better band name
No, I mean how do they kill the patient without him knowing? Is he unconscious or what? If he is conscious either they force it upon him or trick him into it.
"Do you want us to not not euthanize you?"
"uh... yes? no wait!"
Another quality report by the Daily Mail.
Where would us Britons be without them, we'd never know about how bigfoot lived on mars, or how no matter wherever you are, there's a pedophile at least 10 metres away from you at all times.
God Bless.
Daily Mail is highly conservative, is it not?
Doesn't it make sense that they'd want to attack a socially liberal thing like euthanasia by any means necessary, up to and including lying?
daily mail
that is all
Why would anyone do this? I thought doctors were supposed to help people. Killing people most certainly is not helping them.
oh great one of these threads

Give me evidence that they're lying.
This is why I am against doctor assisted suicide being legalized, because messed up stuff like this ends up happening.
According to this (trusted) Belgian newspaper, 'only' one tenth of doctor-assisted suicides are not consented.( 120 cases out of 1265 )
The total amount of doctor-assisted suicides is around 2000 each year.

That is still a pretty big number of murders.

While I support euthanasia, that's a worryingly high rate of non-consented suicides.
Scares the shit outta me....

Care Not Killing sounds better
I'm so afraid of something like this happening I'd probably tell people that I wouldn't want to be euthanised no matter how much pain I was in just in case.
Care Not Killing sounds better
Dignity in Dying sounds like some emo shit.
Jack Kevorkian never killed without consent.

that means 6% per year are unconsented
not a good thing
While I support euthanasia, that's a worryingly high rate of non-consented suicides.
By non-consented, I think they mean that the patient's family chose to go through with the assisted suicide, not the patient themselves, probably because they were too sick.
When you assist someone in their suicide but they don't want to die, that's called murder

But how many of those 6 per cent where in a vegetative state and unable to consent
But how many of those 6 per cent where in a vegetative state and unable to consent
Which brings up a philosophical question. If someone has no next of kin and is a vegetative state is it morally right to euthanize them?

Sad but true. Still, I don't think the numbers in Belgium are considerably higher than in a lot of other countries.
Which brings up a philosophical question. If someone has no next of kin and is a vegetative state is it morally right to euthanize them?
If they're alive they can wish for death.
If they're dead they can't wish for life.
So I say yes.
I've thought about this some more, and from how I understand it, it refers to suicides where the patient was in some type of coma/vegetative state and the patient's family said it would be the patient's wishes to go through with doctor-assisted suicide.

Informative OP
Oh I see, that's not so bad then.
So long as you're permanently a vegetable.
Oh wow, the Daily mail edited a 0 out of the total figure. How surprising.
More right-wing throat shoving.
Anyway, the important issue is that this should be an even higher priority for the Belgian police, with stricter law enforcement.
