He was an illegal immigrant with no right of abode in the UK, as soon as he was arrested they should have deported him no questions asked, but they couldn't because they couldn't work out where he was from because he was a fraudster and claimed to be from 5 different countries, the judge even said that it was a moderate chance that he would re-offend, so as a british citizen I would like to know that they would keep hold of a person like that until they completed their investigation. Furthermore, releasing such a person is stupid because they won't ever come back, like most illegals don't when they're put on bail or freed until further notice..
Criminal or not, UK citizen or not, he may not have had full UK rights, but he still has rights as a human fucking being.

Criminal or not? What the fuck are you on about, so if he was a murderer and completely and totally violated someone's human rights and took away their life completely he should still be able to make a living and have an education? He was a criminal and in his crimes he violated other's rights, why should he have any of his own?
Guys, it's not like they're going to just release him back into England anyway, if you read the last paragraph which was, for some reason, not included in the OP:
They've done one better, they've given him a place to live, if it took that long to try to find out where he's from and they still didn't succeed what hope do they still have, honestly..

it's only the basis for the law system of the west. we could never quite get the hand chopping down.

You clearly don't know what human rights are.
They are irrevocable and impartial. As long as you are human, you have human rights.
what a joke, Illegal's have more rights then proper UK citizens that been work all their life.

He's not a murderer though, if he were a murderer I would agree with you, all he did was petty crimes, he doesn't deserve that kind of treatment.
oh wow, that's like the perfect inflammatory daily mail headline.
it's got it all, ILLEGAL, IMMIGRANT, "DAMAGES", MONEY

you write ILLEGAL in big bold letters and then you suggest something illegal, good bloody job
The actual headline, Court awards £17,000 to detained illegal immigrant, is much better.

Human rights implies right to education, health care, freedom and so on, but these aren't rules, they are principles. Consequently, there are no formal penalties for breaking these principles. But this is irrelevant, because it's not individuals who are expected to make sure everyone have the right to education and healthcare, it's the government, so Mjemer hasn't really violated anyone's human rights. Besides, simply being a criminal shouldn't take away your human rights, because you're a criminal if you steal a chewing gum worth 10 pence. Should that remove your right to health care?

Pretty sure he wasn't being specific, just pointing out that the majority of illegal immigrants are honest people.
that's such a fucking joke, they should strip that dickwad judge of any sort of legal license and deport the cunt and strip him of the money, SIM-PLE
Judges only apply the law, they don't have any discretion in making the law. If the police broke the law then he had no choice but to impose the fine.

lool "this person did mean things therefore they are no longer human"
I mean I for one believe people who do absolutely unforgiveable crimes deserve to be imprisoned for the rest of their lives, but just because they did those things doesn't make them unhuman, except maybe emotionally.
According to Google, minimum wage in the UK is £6.08 per hour, they paid him for ~2855 hours at minimum wage, for being imprisoned for three months. There are only 2190 hours in the same amount of time. Is anyone in this thread saying that we should pay illegal immigrants who dont co-operate with an investigation into their country of origin more than minimum wage for being imprisoned?
Being imprisoned can never be quantified as work, that comparision is completely irrelevant.
Why is everyone worried about being politically correct? He doesn't deserve money for countrymen to try and keep the country "safe" and illegal free.
Being imprisoned can never be quantified as work, that comparision is completely irrelevant.
How is it irrelevant to point out that he is making more money being imprisoned then he would if he was not being imprisoned.

I have had people say that the comparison is dumb, I have not had anyone try to enlighten me on how it is dumb to say that he made more money in prison than at a minimum wage job.
I have had people say that the comparison is dumb, I have not had anyone try to enlighten me on how it is dumb to say that he made more money in prison than at a minimum wage job.
Actually, if you were realistic and considered he worked 7 hours every day for 3 months, like an average job, he would have only worked about 500 hours and made £3000, so its more like they are paying him a year and a halfs wages at minimum wage.
I do think this is wrong. Like someone said earlier: He came into the country illegally, committed loads of crimes, then sat and lied to the police about his home country. Why should they have to just let him go so he can run away again? He should be kept until he tells them his home country, because he is breaking the law just by being here.
I have had people say that the comparison is dumb, I have not had anyone try to enlighten me on how it is dumb to say that he made more money in prison than at a minimum wage job.
Because a minimum wage job at full time is 40 hours per week while prison is 168 hours per week all the while being unable to choose your food, clothing, who you associate with, when you sleep/wake up, what activities you partake in, and when you leave
