Not really, I don't think crazy people like this would just give up there gun. They'll just kill more people.
The perfectly reasonable alternative is to let crazy people have their guns? Idgi.
all gun owners=/=murderers end of story, holy shit

I like how you guys think banning guns will magically stop people from being batshit crazy and killing others for no reason.
I like how nobody says either of those things
The perfectly reasonable alternative is to let crazy people have their guns? Idgi.
Lets just hope they don't go killing otherwise going up to their face/house for their guns is just gonna cause another shooting.
Out of interest, do you have a figure in mind for an unacceptable level of gun murder (as clearly you don't think it's been reached yet)
I find it more interesting that you apparently seem to think there's a question of whether or not murder is acceptable Do you have an acceptable level for murders committed with knives?
Lets just hope they don't go killing otherwise going up to their face/house for their guns is just gonna cause another shooting.
Well in the case that you are right (and you probably are right tbh) doesn't this worry you about how fucked your country's society is at all?
Not really, I don't think crazy people like this would just give up there gun. They'll just kill more people.
I don't think these people are always psychopaths intent on murdering somebody People can panic, or make terrible split-second decisions, or be temporarily unwell [editline]7th November 2013[/editline]
I find it more interesting that you apparently seem to think there's a question of whether or not murder is acceptable Do you have an acceptable level for murders committed with knives?
The acceptable level is none, how have I suggested otherwise
A gun ban wouldn't have done shit if it was being enforced by the Detroit police.
A Gun ban wouldn't do shit anywhere in the US. It would probably actually cause more violence.
The acceptable level is none, how have I suggested otherwise
So the acceptable level for murder is none. Once someone is murdered, we need to start banning and controlling the object that was used for murder? Shit, Orwell had it right, we're gonna have to control everything.
So the acceptable level for murder is none. Once someone is murdered, we need to start banning and controlling the object that was used for murder? Shit, Orwell had it right, we're gonna have to control everything.
Only the objects specifically designed for murder
Its not just any old object, its a tool specifically designed to kill.
A Gun ban wouldn't do shit anywhere in the US. It would probably actually cause more violence.
I think this may be true but it's a silly argument against gun bans. "Well it'd probably suck so that's why we're gonna do nothing."
Only the objects specifically designed for murder
Regulate it of course but a ban would only lead to criminals having guns.
Only the objects specifically designed for murder
And before anyone brings up knives. Not all knives are designed for, or capable of easily, killing. Sure there are guns designed for target shooting, but how often are they used in crimes? A ban would enntail a ban of guns that are designed for "defence" and destruction. And even then, most places with a ban just implement severe restrictions as a total ban is unfeasible for every scenario.
In this person's defense, maybe they thought she was a Jehovah's Witness.
I like how people just completely ignore that they're used for hunting.
That well-known hunting hot-spot Detroit
I like how people just completely ignore that they're used for hunting.
Nice. Ignore the last sentence entirely while don't you. It is possible to get guns for hunting here. Just restricted in how you do anything else.
Nice. Ignore the last sentence entirely while don't you. It is possible to get guns for hunting here. Just restricted in how you do anything else.
But where do you make the cut between for hunting or "destruction"? The same weapon that's used for hunting rabbits ain't gonna do shit against a moose or a bear.
But where do you make the cut between for hunting or "destruction"? The same weapon that's used for hunting rabbits ain't gonna do shit against a moose or a bear.
It doesn't even have to be hunting. What about enthusiasts and collectors who don't have any interest in shooting up schools or overthrowing the government?
when we say ban guns we don't mean america you aren't allowed guns anymore full stop hand them over we mean like in other first world countries where guns are not (easily) available and lets be honest, things are generally better in the whole gun violence side of things look at it from how we do it: you can get a gun if you have a genuine reason for it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_Australia that means you can still grab a gun for hunting, for target shooting and so forth - I definitely wouldn't go as far as to begin to compare one with other legitimate tools, but they do serve a purpose, either in sport or killing things don't get me wrong, I'd fucking love for slightly laxer restrictions in this kind of thing so that stuff like airsoft could be a thing, but I'd take wanting laxer restrictions over trying to recover a country which seems to still use firearms as a cornerstone from its gun culture
Implying guns are only for murder.
I could start juggling hand grenades for a hobby
It doesn't even have to be hunting. What about enthusiasts and collectors who don't have any interest in shooting up schools or overthrowing the government?
for example (I know the post doesn't respond to mine at all), gun collectors can be gun collectors here, not too sure what you mean by gun enthusiasts, but I assume you mean people who own guns for target shooting at ranges or whatever, and yeah I'm pretty sure that's allowed here too
Guns enable bad people to very easily do bad things like what happened in the article. Don't even argue that.
They also enable good people to do good things. Why do I get the feeling you wouldn't make cops disarm like the rest of us if you were in charge?
I could start juggling hand grenades for a hobby
Show me a country where you can legally own functional hand grenades and acquire them with the same ease as a firearm and we'll talk.
Your line of reasoning is fucking retarded. The reason why the suicide rates increase is because those who decide to commit suicide simply have more options. Gun legality does not affect whether or not you choose to commit suicide and you're a fucking tool if you think it does.
Actually stricter gun legislation does decrease the overall suicide rate, or so the statistics show.
I rather like being able to walk into a store, purchase a firearm and get my background check done, and walk out firearm in hand, in less than an hour. The European type gun restrictions suck, and wouldn't be legal here.
Show me a country where you can legally own functional hand grenades and acquire them with the same ease as a firearm and we'll talk.
Do you think owning guns for self-defense is a valid reason? [editline]7th November 2013[/editline]
I rather like being able to walk into a store, purchase a firearm and get my background check done, and walk out firearm in hand, in less than an hour.
Do you think owning guns for self-defense is a valid reason?
Valid reason for what? As in, do I believe that I should be allowed to own a gun for self/home defense? Yes, yes I do.
I do, and I will. Freedom isn't free.
They also enable good people to do good things. Why do I get the feeling you wouldn't make cops disarm like the rest of us if you were in charge?
Good people can do good things without guns. Bad people can do worse things with guns that without. Cops disarm, what?
