I agree with this, the brain is an amazing thing.
Like in dreams, the brain is able to do such unbelievable things. When I had spent a whole night looking at pictures of a car, then when I went to sleep, my mind must have stitched them all together into a 3D shape because I was walking around it. But then when I went to open it I could tell the feeling of the handle came from my car since I had never touched the car in question.
Indeed it is.
I dreamt that I had missed someone's birthday and that it was the 20th. I woke up and realized it was the 14th, and the birthday was in 3 days. I had completely forgot about the birthday.
Thanks subconscious brain!
Nazi experiments. They knew they would lose the war so they took precautions to success 75 years later.
Would be cool if I would magically get perfect in Russian. I can only say like few simple things in Russian and my grammar is just awful.

I'm thinking its Hitler incarnate, makes sense.
usefull
Haha, that's strangely cool.
Holy shit. This is straight out of Fringe.
that would be pretty convenient whenever you had German tests again..
Yeah, you save all the thinks you hear, but are unable to remember most of them. She had read german, and had learnt many words, she just did not know she knew. So when she went into coma, she then was able to acces this saved informations, but forgot her native language.
There was also a Soldier in WW1 who forgot german(i think) and spoke english perfectly in hospital.
Or something
We need to study this, learn what causes it, then utilize it. You could learn to play the guitar instantly, or get a college degree in a day.
I don't think either of those would work.
One of the hardest parts of guitar playing is muscle memory and training your ear (neither of which can be taught to you), and to earn a college degree you need to apply the knowledge your learned in the course. You'd still have to spend multiple semesters learning.
Don't forget that a specific part of your brain is devoted to language, and that's the part that has probably been effected. Especially since she forgot all of her primary language.

ITP people are criticised for actually contributing to the news section and putting in lots of effort.
i wonder if we bump her on the head she'll learn russian
How the fuck does that work?
Did her brain recite the words over and over again and hard wire the language into itself or something?
Bitch, this be screwed up.
She didn't forget the German she couldn't remember, it simply couldn't recall it.
The coma may have changed how her memory was being recalled.
Wish I could magically speak another language without going into a coma :frown:
What he said^
What the fuck
This is pretty sweet. Maybe they could apply this into some kind of teaching technique? Study a language for a month, then go into a coma for who knows how long, then come out and be able to speak that language.

More like study a language for a month, have a massive stroke, and hope you live.

It's called a medically induced coma. :colbert:

How would that massively rewire your brain? :colbert:
I want to wake up from a coma and know how to talk to women.
Reminds me of this one Canadian fat chick that woke up from a coma speaking only with a British accent. Comas are serious business.

Comas that can cause you to wake up speaking fluent German, or wake up speaking with a British Accent?
Damn, almost makes me want one.
Isn't this kinda what happened to Sun on Lost? She cops a bonk on the head and kablooey - no more engrish.
Just in reverse for this girl. Fancy forgetting your own language and suddenly knowing GERMAN of all things. Ugghghughghgh.
I fucking love the german accent
This entertains the endless potential each of our brains are capable of, especially if we believe the statistic that we use 3% or whatever of our brain. Also goes to show how far neurosurgeons(?) are from really understanding even a miniscule part of how our brain functions.
I doubt we will ever come close to completely mapping out such a device atleast in my lifetime. I also think this could be a result of an out of body experience that people report after being in comas. Maybe she travelled Germany, maybe the brain found a desire and acted on it.
Holy shit, this is actually pretty amazing.
I want to know more.
I'm pretty sure the brain absorbs EVERYTHING that goes on around you but you just can't access almost all of it consciously. When you sleep though, phew.

that sort of what i was thinking. perhaps she just absorbed all of the german but wasn't able to process it, and the coma rewired her brain so that she's able to.
[editline]12:45AM[/editline]
cut off the croatian part and opened the german one. out with the old, in with the new.
I'd want that to happen to me, except that i can speak my own language and English too
Because my German isn't that good :(
