still probably more stable then SB3.
I don't even want to see the network usage and server load for a few people on this game mode.
It's going to lag more than SB3 in the end.
Well, keep in mind it has nowhere near as many complex features as SB3, and Chad's been focusing on optimization as much as possible.
So far it's ran fine in a nearly full test server, even in it's unfinished buggy state.
So far it's ran fine in a nearly full test server
How many players is a full test server?
Usually 10 or more.
Frontier has kept it simple, so I doubt its gonna lag as much as SB3.
Any way one could test this exciting gamemode?
Not yet.
frontier looks okay, hopefully sb3 won't be as complicated as sb2.
What the fuck is wrong with the Camera
Uhmmmm... What? SB3 has been around for a lot of time, and it's pretty much fucking complex...
[editline]04:14PM[/editline]
Fucking dammit, I hate the lack of Edit button.
Our website is currently unavalible due to a DDOS attack. Sorry for the inconvienience.
I used to enjoy life support when it wasn't overly complex.

This.
It was so beautiful back then... 3 resources (energy, air, coolant), some tanks, a couple of exchangers, and bam! off to space. and no need for silly "resource nodes" or whatever. You could fly anywhere using only basic equipment, and no need for 3 hours of setup...
still probably more stable then SB3.
Runs smoother in between the crashing, is what I meant.
the cinematography is making me feel queezy....
Why?
I think they look nice.
Bulky suit. Looks completely fine on the male. Pan over to the female >facepalm a bit
That's akin to a modelled codplate on a bulky armour.

It's a spacesuit.
It's meant to protect your squishy human bodies from the cold, deadly, radiation-filled, organ spluttering vacuum of space.
It's supposed to be tough and bulky. You can't have chicks in bikini in space, they have to wear armor too.
[editline]12:36AM[/editline]
Unless you're into extreme gore/splatter. But in that case I doubt they'd let you design skimpy spacesuits for women.
What the fuck is wrong with the Camera
This is my fault. I used that Catmull Cinematic Camera thing, but did it poorly.

The models on that billboard texture are old. The newer ones look a lot better.

I think I was misunderstood. I have nothing against the bulkyness of the armour. I welcome it. My pet peeve are the modeled boobs on the armour :~
Essentially the exact opposite.
Those are gone on the newer models.
i want to try this, beta test it as well.
spacebuild 3 is terrible. no questions asked. it's seriously too complicated to build anything, and if you do, you really don't have fun because there's seven fucking resources to juggle. and then the server crashes. spacebuild 2 was a lot better but it had problems.
it was overcomplicated. make a ship, make life support, spend an hour filling it up, and then fly out in space just to have you die. and then you noclip out as fast as you can before you die and if you don't make it in time, restart.
resource farms trivialize the whole point of the gamemode, and the old coolant generator was just dumb and the fusion generator made the entire process worthless since everyone had infinite power. you need to be self-sufficient in space but you also need an excuse to trade resources and visit others. does your planet have water? do you have a lot of sunlight for power generators? there's too many power generators. someone has to have a weakness somewhere and they need to trade.
i remember the original water exploration system. it was top notch. absolute brilliance. and then someone had the idea of porting it into space. it was fucking amazingly brilliant. but once you started adding more resources and more systems the entire thing stopped being an excercise in exploration and creativity and it started being one in resource micromanagement and bad gamemode design.
spacebuild 2 with a few additions and tweaks, plus a very good map, is all that needs to happen. let classic gmod ingenuity handle everything. we don't need weapons or special systems, we need a fucking usable base gamemode.
[editline]04:42AM[/editline]
i guess my problem with it is what i think is the problem with gmod developers; sents and gamemodes with too many flashy effects and custom models don't work nearly as well as very basic gamemodes with default ones.
the more flash and razzledazzle you add and the fancier functions you add that seem to expand gameplay actually end up ruin them because they rarely function as intended and always lag too much to work. the custom models make the game inaccesible and the extensive error-filled lua makes the items SOOO COOOOOL but NOT FUN
^ couldn't have said it better.
The only thing I like about sb3 is the model pack/toolkit. A basic set of models with an easy assembly tool. And a kickass elevator generator.
But OF COURSE they had to ruin it turning those models into FUCKING ENTITIES with built-in resource exchanging, balloons popping out when you look at them and whatnot... And the elevator did not work properly.
On a different side, do Frontier systems include some pew pew space weaponry other than the death ray and the HASTE? If so, do they damage props, giving them an actual practical use?

The vast majority of the effects can be turned off/turned down. Life Support right now is in a somewhat early stage, but once it gets to a certain point I want start doing public playtests to fine tune the values for the devices and all that jazz.

:flashfap:
Please do, I'd like to get my dirty hands on this gamemode as soon as possible...
Did i hear public playtests? WHERE!?
Im sooooooo looking forward to this.

Then we shall eagerly wait that certain point.
But hey, the hype from Frontier is already massive. We're asking for basic but cool toys to distract ourselves until the final release.
Like, say, some guns, generators... Just to fuck around in Sandbox while acting like idiots and stare in awe at the effects.
Would that be possible?
