Can the other parties block him if he tries it again, now he has a majority?
there are checks and balances available but not really
Can the other parties block him if he tries it again, now he has a majority?
Nope, he has over half the seats in the HoC. Not much can stop him.
I had a feeling that NDP wouldn't win, as people would get cold feet or something before actually casting their vote. I wanted to have faith, but just didn't.
Oh quit being so melodramatic.
Harper is bad for Canada, dude. No offense to you Yanks, but we really, really don't want to be like you guys. Corporations have far, far too much power in your country. And it looks like they'll soon have their claws in ours. American corporations, no less. Fuck my life.
Wait I thought the conservatives were against that!
SAVE US LAYTON :byodood:
They were against it because everyone else was against it. Now that they have a majority it won't matter if they're for it or against it.
Halifax is all Orange/Red
It's all we can do, I guess.
Nope, he has over half the seats in the HoC. Not much can stop him.
The senate
Welp, thats that.

How does this even affect you as a common citizen? It's simply good for the economy. The only possible downside to all this would be privatized healthcare but that's unlikely.
Also, Green has the lead for once. I was right, I predicted Green gets a seat, and they're getting one now.

When corporations have power the government tends to work on who pays them the most money and not the citizens.
Do you realize what this means? If Canada privatizes healthcare, US insurance providers will move in, US healthcare corporations will get a foothold here. And once that happens, there is no kicking them out. Ever. It's over.
The senate
The Senate he promised to shut down and then filled with Conservative senators? Hah!
Bloc got killed.
I wonder if they're going to start riots here now :v:
I don't understand, who votes for a party that was overthrown? I would assume that would make a lot of people think twice before voting conservative again... apparently I'm wrong though.

The conservatives are also more receptive to american lobbyists
Harper is bad for Canada, dude. No offense to you Yanks
Hey yeah, stuff it.
How about you take a fucking second to ask who I voted for before generalizing on nothing.
By the way, another thing a conservative majority will bring us:
usage-based billing and that internet surveillance law (mandatory deep packet inspection for all ISPs in the future, whether the overhead will slow everything down or not!)
It was the conservatives that smacked UBB outta here...
How does this even affect you as a common citizen? It's simply good for the economy. The only possible downside to all this would be privatized healthcare but that's unlikely.
Only possible downside? Do you understand what the Conservatives do? They suck corporate cock. The poor and the disabled, the old and the infirm go down the shitter. Education turns to shit. Healthcare turns to shit. Harper wants to turn Canada into the USA. This is a dark fucking day in history, my friend.
It was the conservatives that smacked UBB outta here...
they had a minority at the time pal
Do you realize what this means? If Canada privatizes healthcare, US insurance providers will move in, US healthcare corporations will get a foothold here. And once that happens, there is no kicking them out. Ever. It's over.
There's no need to even go in to how melodramatic that statement is because the chances of healthcare being privatized are insanely slim. It's no secret that Harper wants it but he's not a dictator, the backlash would be too high.
Hey yeah, stuff it.

Your intolerance pisses me off to no end right now.
Not you, Carbon. This isn't about you. I'm talking about the state of affairs in America in general - and how Harper's going to make Canada just the same. Honestly, I couldn't care less who you vote for - that's not what's upsetting me.
It was the conservatives that smacked UBB outta here...
Because it was the popular thing to do.

He doesn't need to worry about the backlash now like he did before.

It's democracy deal with it.

Seems like the conservatives did it to get votes. Something tells me they will go back on it now.
It's democracy deal with it.
and an undemocratic party was just elected
and an undemocratic party was just elected
