Well, I'm not sure how to feel. Because they're a majority, they will be able to get more things done. However, not all of those things will be good things. The official opposition is the NDP- a major change, and hopefully a good one. If it were to be a majority, this would have probably been the best option.
Alright that is just blatantly stupid.
They lied about their budget
that's not democracy
He doesn't need to worry about the backlash now like he did before.
Like I said, he's not a dictator. There's no chance that it could come to pass unless he was able to prove that it would be in the best interests of the country.
A leader can't just fuck over a country without any opposition, even if they do have a minority.
ugh, and what's going to become of our criminal justice system
mandatory minimum sentences
megaprisons
god forbid, capital punishment
You know what'd be nice? If you could find out why in the hell so many people voted conservative. If they knew why they would / will screw us over.
Rest in peace Canada, we'll see you again in four years.

A leader can't. A Majority Party can.

Maybe if we're lucky he'll slip up, Canada will see what he's really trying to do, and he'll be tossed out on his head, charged with treason or something.

Conservative majority.
Fuck yer.
I was really hoping for NDP's prescription drug coverage plan to be fully revealed
It's something that would have saved me far more money than any conservative tax cuts would have
the poor get poorer

One can dream and hope.

Don't you think that's a bit harsh?
A leader can't. A Majority Party can.
A majority party can make major changes, but they can't simply wipe out one of the defining factors that makes the country what it is unless it was in the country's best interests.
It's totally sensationalist to say that we'll get privatized health care. I realize it's easy to overreact in the heat of the moment like this, but in the coming months you'll see that very little will change.
Well, shit. Guess I need to leave the country for the next five years
I get a boner watching you squeamish nerds baww over the Conservative majority.
Bueno
Harper can theoretically do anything, but if he pisses Canada off too much in the next 4 years, he won't get elected in 4 years time. If he fucks up too bad, we'll see a repeat of Mulroney. I think he realizes this, and he'll stay true to his platform, if he knows what's good for him in the long term.
Welcome to the United States of Canada
Aka welcome to hell

There's a lot that WILL change though
Healthcare is speculation, but his changes to the justice system aren't. They were in the budget, the very one that got him kicked out.
Just because things change slowly doesn't mean that things don't change
Well, the election is not all a loss. The BQ is fucked, 2 seats, holy shit. That is fucking amazing. They might even just disband the party's federal division.

Do you also get a boner knowing that when I'm no longer living with my parents I won't be able to afford my medication
Layon's prescription drug plan was the defining moment of this election for me and that's gone

Harper is a slimy asshole of the lowest order. He's done a lot of deals with US corporate interests already, screwing Canadians over. He hasn't said a damn about gas prices, and he's going to let Usage Based Billing go through, restricting the access of Canadians to information via the internet by making it unaffordable for all but the shrinking middle class and the upper class. I know somehow he's getting a cut of the profits. He deserves the worst he gets if he proves our fears true.
Oh, and when Canada demanded transparency? He closed Parliament down.

That's very biased, and even you know that. I'm not even conservative, more towards NDP, and I think that's biased against him.

I'm not denying that those changes will be made, but my point was how absurd it is to say that he could privatize health care in 4 years. It's a joke really. As far as justice system changes go I really couldn't care less cause even if I was going to remain living in Canada, I wasn't planning on getting arrested any time soon.

Perhaps it is. Forgive me for my lack of confidence in our new Supreme Overlord.
Green and Bloc should just give up, Bloc has past it's prime and Green is just unfortunately not strong enough in areas other than enviromental causes. I would've settled for NDP or Liberal but to see the NDP's strong rise from last election is a good sign for the future.

Civil rights affect everyone, you should care
Whats the minimum amount of time between elections in Canada? If I understand Parliaments correctly it's whenever they feel like having elections, unlike the US that has set elections every 4 years.

They're set every four, but votes of non-confidence in the government can collapse it and force an election, which is what happened here.
